We went there during a recent "Around Cape Horn" Celebrity Infinity cruise. It was not cheap
(USD50 for an adult, USD30 for a child), but it was definitely worth doing. The boats are
right there at the pier, the whole trip was about 2 hours. Lots and lots of sea lions and sea wolves, one does not land on the island, but we got very close. The boat can get rather rocky, but it was fun.

With a small group we hired a boat from the pier and went to the Island. The sight and smell of so many Sea Lions was brilliant.

Head down to the port to buy tickets at USD50 per person. The Isla del Lobos ferry I boarded left at noon. There are several departures a day. Bring your bathing suit as you'll get a chance to swim with the sea lions.

Note: If you're headed to the Beagle Channel or Puerto Madryn in Argentina, skip Uruguay's sea lions and go with Argentina's instead. Is cheaper and you see more sea lions.

The trip is quite expensive (50USD), but if you get the opportunity to go and swim with the sea lions (ask in advance- they won't always let you jump in), then it is definitely worth the trip. The animals are quite curious and they will swim up to you. Beautiful creatures! The guides definitely need to work on teaching the clients about the animals (they don't put too much effort into it). But it is a beautiful place, unlike anything I have ever seen!

A quite expensive boat ride from the port will enable you to sea, almost touch, one of the smelliest and noisiest bunch of sea wolves. If you miss it, don't feel spoiled.
