Loved the trip on Calypso Tours. We benefited from a sunny but windy day. As someone who likes sailing and boating, the captain seemed very knowledgeable of the waters and how to handle the boat. When we arrived, the staff mingled with passengers and provided information about the history of the island and the animals (sea lions and fur seals). They also answered questions. A thoroughly delightful trip.

Boat trip in rough sea, lasting from 2 to 3 hours, leaving the fishing port until near the island where one can observe one of the largest concentrations of sea lions in the world. There are so many animals that their odor is even felt with the boat away from the shores.

after seeing some of the sea lions in the water near the fish market, we had no choice but to pay the 50$ pp for a trip to the island.
we were lucky and got a boat right after and departed at 2:30 pm in sunny, calm weather. the island itself was simply amazing, thousands of sea lions relaxing on the rocks or swimming and jumping out of the water.
the crew provided us with some information about the island and the animals in general. unfortunately we couldnt swim with them, something i definitely wouldnt miss, given the option.
on the way back it got colder with more wind, so take warm clothing with you and i would not recommend departing any later than 3 pm.

It's a nice boat ride from Punta del Este, took about an hour, but well worth it. There are hundreds of seals here. The boats can get quite close to them...too close if you have a sensitive nose. Fabulous seeing so many seals & sea lions together. Good views of the light house too

We were told it's the second largest group of sea lions. Fairly long boat ride, lots of tourist on boat seasick, we took a Calypso excursion, nice boat, good platform for trip, ticket had English and Spanish instructions, liked that, boat ride was ok , but of about 2 hour trip, most of the time was transit, you do not swim with, dock with or land on the island, just pull boat up close and look. We had a crew man explain as much as we could understand about the national marine park, the island, lighthouse and wreck , nearby.
