“Enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 19 May 2007

We stayed for 2 nights (April 25 and 26). We had planned to stay at Jose Ignacio but that town was closed down. We kept heading further West and eventually settle for L'Auberge as about the only good option we saw. It turned out to be a good choice. The location about 3 miles out of Punta del Este in a nice residential area was good but you would want a car as their is poor public transport, especially off season. The roooms are nice but fairly expensive ($220 +). Breakfast was served in a nice room and the food was more than adequate -- good baked items and eggs. The grounds were nice.

Four nights stay, late april, 2007, in a super de luxe apt., ( US$ 220 a day ). At the second day, they turned off the hotel air conditioning, saying the outside temperature was not hot enough. Being forced to open the windows, we had to sleep using repelents, due to the mosquitos, that found it's way through the nets, by the windowway. There's more. At the day of our arrival, we found out that our room was located in a wing with no conection to the recepetion office. So, we had - as all other guests of that wing - to walk outside, through the garden, under a light rain, carrying part of our luggage to the room. The path, which we had to take in and out, , was soaked. Having arrived at the room, we found out there was no hot water. I had a cold bath, and my wife had to take a shower, late in the evening, in other room, at the same floor. More. After confirming the car rental price through the hotel - US$ 235, all included - we received a U$350 bill from the Multicar company, due to a "better insurance", that we did not ask for. All that was not compensated by the extrordinary beauty of the property gardens, nor by the bottle of sparkling wine, with the apologise note about the shower problem, especially considering the price we have paid.

We were on a tour of Rio Sao Paulo Buenos Aires and Uruguay. Guess which place had the jewel in the crown ? We booked this place without the help of TRIP ADVISOR which was a real stroke of luck since I trust this web site implicitly. Auberge was ABSOLUTELY fabulous in EVERY WAY even in the off season. Cannot rave enough . We have been to every continent and AUBERGE ranks in the top five favourites for sure. A. Kirk

A sincerely charming place to stay and a real departure from most of what's available in Punta del Este. It evokes a European country estate, the centerpiece being its tower, which overlooks the water and outlying area. The rooms in the tower, one per floor, are modest in size, but definitely worth it. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant and the vibe tranquil. The breakfast was great too -- especially the juice! A truly memorable stay.

  • Liked — Uniqueness, service, aesthetic
  • Disliked — Distance from town
  • Tips/Secrets — Request the tower!

I had the greatest of luck finding this hotel at the very last minute from my travel agent in Buenos Aires. I had no idea what I was going to find and was more than pleased with where I ended up staying for a whole week.
The hotel sits on beautiful acre of gardens in a chic residential area and although the beach 2 blocks down is not the greatest due to its exposure to the winds ( rough sea ), it was deserted and I manage to swim while being cautious about wAVES.
i did not have a car but there is the regional bus that passes every hour at 20 before the hour ( almost swiss precision ) 2 block away and it cheap and super convenient. It also leaves from the center of town every hour on the hour.
back to the hotel : great rooms, really confortable, homey-like. Don t expect american standardized hotel chain comfort but english countryside. Excellent breakfast buffet, yes I confirm, the waffles are to die for ( served on w-ends only) and teh staff is incredibly accomodating,. helpful and nice.
If you want calm, serene grounds, a small pool to refresh amidst a beautiful garden while being 10 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Punta del Este, then L Auberge is the place. Enjoy¡

The L'Auberge is a true gem. We were coming back from the north of the country and stopped at the hotel because my husband had a childhood memory of some waffle he had at the cafe. We ended up treating us to staying the night. The room was lovely, the garden is beautiful and the service is five stars. Highly recommended, wish we could have stayed longer!

I was only here for one night - side trip from Buenos Aires - and wish I could have stayed longer. The hotel is gorgeous. It is in the middle of a very high-class neighborhood and you feel as if you live there. We stayed in a suite and it was a great size and very nice. Decor is Victorian. They have a high tea with homemade waffles and dulce de leche - it is a MUST! The only downside is that it is slightly out of town and the cabs are high to get there. But if you are looking to escape this is the place. The pool and grounds are spectacular. Definately stay here.
