“Save, nice hostel, good location”
Reviewed 16 January 2014

The Location is quite good, near to Bus Terminal and City Center. The Property feels save, the entrance door at the street is always locked and they check who wants to enter. They have lockers with power outlets, which is great!

The garden is really nice if it's warm enough to go out! The rooms were okay, huge beds and the blankets are definitively warm enough! (you can ask for an additional blanket!)
I made the experience that there is no heating in any house in the bolivian highlands, if you want a heated place you probably have to pay a lot more and go to a real hotel…

The staff was friendly and helpful, some people tend to say bolivians are rude, but i guess the are just restrained, and if you (try to) speak spanish its even easier to warm them up (just my experience).

We booked flights at the intern travel agency, which was handy as the prices are the same as in town and he talks directly to the plane companies… (just be careful that he spells everything correctly). the other trips are probably more expensive as if you go to a downtown agency.

The only not so good thing is that you have to go outside to the toilet and the showers are more or less outside, but i experienced that quite often in other hostels.

i liked to stay here, the location felt save, the price was reasonable, the bar was quite nice but not too much party (which i liked!),...

Room Tip: You can look at the board how full the rooms are, so we choose a bigger room, which was free, so we...

I went twice at the Bacoo, and both the service was really good, the staff is friendly, helpful and available all the time. It was really handy to have the bar and the restaurant in the hostel, when I was not in the mood to go out.
Possible to choose the music with the barman. Good atmosphere.
The only thing I could point out is the doors of the dormitories, no possible to lock them. But there are some lockers at the reception, so not really a big problem.
and the location is great, really close of the downtown.

My friend & I stayed here for quite a few nights as we used Bacoo as our base as we went back & forth from La Paz to Sorata, then to Huayna Potosi. Many comments on here talk about how cold it is... of course it's cold, it's La Paz!! The blankets here are super warm and beds very comfortable, so the cold posed no problem. Facilities were clean enough, and while some staff members were more helpful than others, some went out of their way to help us and were very courteous. Breakfast was just bread & jam & milk, so we bought oatmeal to supplement what they provided. Only downside is the bar music was kind of loud at night sometimes and though most of my showers were hot, a couple were cold... I guess it's all about timing... check the water before you decide if you want to shower... if it's cold and you aren't willing to take a cold shower, just wait and it will prob heat up again soon. They also have useful lockers, you can get laundry done in one day, and they have computers with internet. Good location, right off the bus line coming down from the airport in El Alto, and a 10-15 minute walk to Saranaga street/the tour operators.

For the price paid (for a double room, private), it's honestly a bit of a rip off. The outside and bar are in great shape and clean, but the room has paint peeling off the walls, mildew in the bathrooms, and lumpy old bed and pillows.
The security of the place is fine from the outside, with a locked gate with security camera and 24 hour staff. However the doors to the rooms are flimsy and easily openable. The wifi is good enough if people stay off Skype...but they dont, and when someone gets on, no one else can do a thing.
Overall, I was disappointed because of the price.

We booked this hostel because it was cheap and because they advertised parties, jacuzzi and because it looked lively. However this was not the case, hardly anyone there and we asked if the jacuzzi was working and we were told 70 bolivianos if we wanted water in it. Rooms were standard, best thing about the place is the price.

I went to bacoo hostel becuase I was just passing through La paz for the night and the hostel is near the bus station which is great. That was pretty much the only great thing about it though. The bar is nice but a bit boring, I was there on a Saturday aswell so thought there might be abit of a night life but it closed really early becuase no one was there. The bed was fairly comfy and I slept ok. I would recommend if you need to stay close to the bus station

Nice garden, nice bar and games. Looks like a party hostel, but it was almost empty when we were there. Good prices though, but they could change some of rooms' locks.
Helpful staff and many services.
