“Wonderful dining experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

I had been here before and enjoyed it so decided to go back. Hands down, the food is their biggest seller. The portions are done right for a group with an appetite. There is a plentiful salad bar including choclo and white rice and fries to accompany your entree. For La Paz it's on the pricier side, but for tourists I think you'll find it's a great deal, well worth the money spent. Definitely not overpriced. Service is good. La parilla mixta was a hit with my family as more than half of our 13 ordered the dish. Our final bill was around $200 but again that's for 13 people! Nice ambiance, close to el centro. Delicious and fresh food with a nice selection of pastries and desserts. Cannot go wrong with choosing this restaurant. Good for big groups or small.

“Delicious food, freshly cooked, comprehensive menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

Having stayed in the Hotel Camino Real in Santa Cruz two years ago and being a little underwhelmed with the food there, I was a little apprehensive about this sister restaurant in La Paz Sur. My apprehensions were unfounded. The food was really excellent. The soup of the day (Lentil) was really tasty and as a bonus there was pepper on the table and a pepper grinder at the salad bar. The main course was well cooked (I had Llama steaks) with a delicious herb and mushroom sauce and was complimented with a fresh salad from the salad bar. There was a choice of four deserts which, while not spectacular, were tasty.
Overall, I and my party thoroughly enjoyed the meal and were impressed by the service and attention that we were given. Full marks!

“Poor food in charmless surroundings”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Having visited La Comedie and Chez Moustache I'm at a loss how we ended up at this place where the size of the main meat courses is presumably meant to outweigh all the other negatives....it doesn't.
The salad bar had no redeeming features (some of the dressings came with their own skin) and the desserts were uninspiring sweet creations from the 70's. The meat itself was well cooked and presented but potatoes that had stood all evening over a burner were best avoided. Unsmiling service capped it all off.
Errrr, don't go.

“Meat. Where it's at.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2014

Being a very popular place on the weekend, the "crowds" are a bit off-putting, and despite the large menu, it still very much feels like a hotel dining room rather than a restaurant. However, feelings of ambiance and appearances aside, this is the best bang for your buck place in the city, and possibly in the world for meat (there may be better in other places with lots of meat production and low costs, like Nicaragua, but I have yet to find one comparable). The list of steaks is two pages long, and then there are other things you can grill, including local animals environmentalists would be appalled by. They would, however, be satisfied with the large salad bar you can access with any main, including pastas, which also has a good selection of deserts. If you are in la paz, and enjoy your cut of beef, dont leave this place off of your list.

“Not only for meat gluttons”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2013

If you are a meat eater, this is the right place to go, and if you are in a group with friends or colleagues that do not eat meat, they will enjoy a large salad bar which is open and free for anyone requesting a main dish. La Tranquera has two convenient locations, both with at the Camino Real Hotel, one uptown and one in the southern residential area of La Paz.
