“A good value for a clean room”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

The staff speaks English so that was a huge help to start. I called and made my reservation with no deposit required. When I arrived I was actually booked into their second location a few blocks away. Both locations are situated in the historic Candelaria area. I booked a private room with a double bed which had a shared bath for $40000 COP per night. The room and bath were both very clean and comfortable. It was very cold at night but the bed had tons of blankets and was nice and cozy. The perfect way to sleep, in my opinion. The staff was always available and always friendly. There is a parking lot two doors down and motorcycle parking was less than $5000 COP per night. Bottled water from the hostel was the normal street rate of $2000 COP per bottle. I walked around the neighborhood and had no problems although I was usually in the room by 7. There is a transmilenio terminal very close and lots of good places to eat, get coffee, a beer or whatever. The Hostal provides a nice map with recommendations that are all within walking distance plus they have lots of activities to keep you busy if you want to participate. The only issue I had was that my room was right next to the courtyard area and the music, talking and smell of smoke was not my favorite but it is a hostal and the price, cleanliness and staff made up for this minor issue.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the courtyard/sitting area.

Hostel Sue is in the oldest part of the city know as the Candelaria. Perfect location to explore Bogota from. The hostel is old but clean and comfortable. The staff treated me like I was part of the family. I will return there and would recommend that you try Hostel Sue.

Don't listen to the 'hostel haters'. This hostel is friendly, comfortable and fun...and clean, and welcoming. The service was some of the best we had as budget/mid-range travellers on our whole trip. There is ping pong, a nice garden, good breakfast and staff which goes out of its way to help. If you want to party you can, if you want to relax and watch a movie in the cosy movie room then you can. We met lots of people here and would stay again. Perfect for backpackers, solo travellers and sociable people.

We stayed at the ANTIGUA (old) location. The NUEVA (new) sister hostel nearby in Candelaria had a table tennis table and friendly staff and a bar - we could get in here no problem.

At the old hostel where we stayed, the reception was manned 24 hours a day. We arrived late due to delayed flights, so turned up at 7am and the staff were helpful - we were allowed straight into our room for a nap (and didn't have to pay for the missed night's accommodation which was nice of them). Only a small bolt on our bedroom door with a padlock. Our room was next to the TV room which did get loud at times. Breakfast was almost non-existent. Nice little courtyard and TV room with free internet on computers. Helpful staff. Drinks available from reception.

Really a nice hostel. And, as far as Bogota goes, it's in a nice neighborhood. Still, be careful after dark. Heed the advice you've no doubt read about keeping yourself safe in Bogota. As for the hostel, the staff was very nice. Refrigerator filled with cheap beer, tv with movies for rainy days. Breakfast one day was great.. broth with a hunk of meat. every other day it was standard chocolate-egg-bread.

The hostal looked nice with a small garden and bar but the room was old and dirtyish, the bed sheets and mattress were old and filthy. We were in a private room which was not in the hostal itself but on another block. I was glad to leave en won't recommend this place.

On first appearances the hostel itself seemed nice. (There is a ping pong table, don't be deceived). This was before we discovered a strange smell coming from the corner of the room. There was a suspicious damp patch that smelt only like wee. The beds were stained and damp - the sheets didn't look like they'd been changed in months.

All of this we could deal with... we were on a tight budget so had stayed in similarly dirty places. What we found truly disturbing was the rudeness of the staff. One morning I told the receptionist that I had been up ill all night and inquired about the nearest pharmacy. She only laughed at me.

We had booked for 4 nights and after the first night were told that we had to move (we were not asked) to make room for another reservation that had been made after ours.

Overall very dim and rude staff who did not seem to possess a shred of humanity or empathy.

Do not stay here, stay at the similarly priced and far superior alternatives such as the Cranky Croc.

You have been warned.
