“Nice hotel excellent location”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Tryp Hotel as an overnight stay on our way to our final destination. Even though it was only one night we were able to enjoy their friendly and attentive service. The room was comfortable. Our only criticism is that the bathroom was small. The hotel is fairly close to El Dorado airport and easy to reach. Nice hotel we we recommend it.

Just had a week at Tryp Bogota Embajada whilst at WorldSkills Americas and was impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. The place is spotless and the food fine, and no trouble with the internet at all. A kettle in the room and a bottle of water would be good but for the nearby exhibition centre it's perfect. One of the drivers, Nelson, took me on a tour of the city and couldn't have been more helpful - and at a very reasonable price too. The Museum d'Oro is a must - really awesome! I'd be very happy to go back given the chance!

This hotel just about has everything and one can't complain. I do however wish the rooms were equipped with small microwaves and coffee makers. Even business travelers use these almost on a daily basis. Other than that, I highly recommend staying there. If and when I go back, I'll definitely look to stay there.
As far as service goes, everyone was wonderful, very polite and ready to attend to your needs. The girls on the 2nd floor were the best bunch of workers I've ever come across.

Thank you Hotel Tryp.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be just right, great views.

I really expected more when I booked this hotel (which is not the cheapest option) as it is by Wyndham but I can see that Wyndham had not taken much care of this hotel's operator. The room is ok and new but small, really small, reminds me of hotel rooms in Hong Kong, diminutive in size and huge in price. The location is great though, 15 minute walk to a mall and Corferia (show ground), but location is not the only thing business traveler is seeking. Staff are friendly though.

For the next show, will really check other hotels chains

We stayed here for a week on a conference. The hotel internet , food, service was terrible. I knew more about what was going on in Bogota than the staff. Very unhelpful. Our conference had microphone trouble. The ONLY reason to stay here would be if you are from another city in Colombia, and you have business at the US embassy. Other than that, terrible location as well

This hotel was chosen for a conference I was attending for the purposes of location. I did like the area. It felt safe and there is a simply enormous shopping mall a few blocks away. There are also a large number of chain restaurants around. However, it is a business district and far from any local or exceptional restaurants. It is also far from the old part of the city where most tourists tend to go. It is, however, a quick ride to/from the airport.

Many people at the conference had problems with the service and amenities at this hotel. It felt like a place that had just opened and was working out kinks. The hair dryer in our room was broken and it was a comedy of errors trying to get a new one. Our mini-bar had a price list but it was empty.

One day we got stuck in the elevator. We got in, it plunged awkwardly from floor 2 to floor 1 and then jammed. Every few minutes it would try to unjam itself and then slam down again. Of course, pressing and even holding the alarm button achieved nothing. No one helped us. It eventually managed to unstick itself to answer a call from someone on the third floor. We ran out and alerted the cleaning person in the hallway to the situation. We were greeted with a perplexed "and this is my problem why?" expression, and had to speak to different people in the hotel to see if anyone had any responsibility for ensuring that guests did not get stuck in a broken elevator.

When we arrived from the airport, I got ripped off by my cab driver, and the bellman was very concerned. He assured me many times that they would review the security cameras and get the cab driver's plate number so they could report him to the agency. He said they would keep me informed of this process. When I asked about it at the front desk a day later, they had no clue what I was talking about. The security people came out and looked at me like I had 2 heads. They had no knowledge that they were supposed to do this. Very aggravating.

We tried to check out the spa that was advertised in our room. It is in the basement of a popular gym which is outside of the hotel. You have to figure out that it is in the gym which is open to the public, explain to the people at the gym you are looking for the spa, at which point, they will let you through, then, you have to wind your way through an active gym into the basement, where there is a small spa. Weird.

Lastly, the room temperate control was really terrible. It was hard to figure out and it was always too hot or too cold.

Conclusion: It would not be my first choice, but it was OK. The staff made a reasonable effort, the breakfast was decent, the rooms were clean with comfortable beds and the amenities worked. I would not avoid this hotel at the expense of its convenient location, if I had to be in that area for another work-related event.

Don't believe the pictures or postive reviews of this hotel. The pictures are touched up and the positive reviews HAVE to be fake.

The TRYP Hotel is part of the Wyndam Hotel Chain, so we thought that we would enjoy the same level of excellent service we have enjoyed at Wyndam Hotels around the world. WE WERE WRONG.

The service at the TRYP Hotel Embajada is THE lousiest we have ever encountered anywhere in the world!

We secured a suite for a five day business trip. NOTA BENE: We both speak Spanish fluently.

This is what we experienced during our stay:

* No coffee maker for two days

We were told at the Front Desk that all the coffee makers were in use in other rooms

The coffee maker appeared with coffee after 2 days, but without creamers, sugar or stirrers.

No coffee was delivered the 3rd day; we were told at the Front Desk that the coffee maker was a "Gift" for our first night, but that thereafter, there would be a charge for that service.

When we explained to the Front Desk that this service is advertised as complimentary on the TRYP website, we WERE provided ground coffee in a large bowl covered in plastic with a large spoon with which to scoop it out and place in the coffee maker. Again, we were only given ONE coffee cup; creamers, sugar, and stirrers were not provided.

When we requested creamers, sugar, stirrers and extra coffee cups, the Hotel Staff sent up facial cream.

* One face towell was provided in the bathroom upon our arrival.

It took two days to get an extra towell.

* Two sheets of facial tissue were provided in the bathroom upon our arrival.

It took one day to get a full box of facial tissue.

* One paper cup for drinking was povided in our room upon our arrival.

It took one day to get TWO paper cups.

* No extra pillows or a blanket were provided for the fold-out couch and chilly nights.

We were NEVER given an extra blanket of pillows; we were told that there weren't any available.

* Extra toilet paper was provided, but it was never placed on the roll. We had to do it ourselves.

* No heat is provded in the room.

* The wall unit for AC is not adjustable; the temperature is fixed.

* NO WATER AT ALL in our bathroom for 4 hours the morning after our arrival.

We were told at the Front Desk that there was a problem with the Boiler and that it was being repaired. That's all. No room change was suggested, nor were we offered a fruit plate or vouchers for a drink at the bar or anything else for this gross inconvenience.

When water was restored, it was yellow and/or a murky brown and spewed out of the faucets and shower head in noisy pulses for the entirety of our stay. Flushing the toilet sounded like some sort of volcanic eruption.

We were told that this yellow/murky brown water was potable.

* The Front Desk refused to change US Dollars into Colombian Pesos, in spite of the fact that
we were with one of our associates when she was provided this service by the Front Desk. We were told that we didn't know what we were talking about.

* We requested a cab at 7:30 PM during a heavy rainstorm on the Saturday night of our stay. The Doorman told us to go out into the street and get it ourselves as he wouldn't go out in the rain to do that for us.

The Hotel is not within safe walking distance of ANYTHING remotely entertaining, so walking was not an option for us.

* There were no carpets on the floor nor pictures on the walls in our Suite. We were told that this is an intentional aethestic.

The tile floors are cold and very noisy, so you can hear your neighbors doing everything...

Without pictures or any other sort of decoration on the walls, our suite was austere and not at all inviting.

* NO CONCIERGE SERVICE AT ALL and the Front Desk Personnel know next to nothing about where to go or what to do.

The Front Desk personnel speak marginal English at best, if any at all.

* The Breakfast was good, but food was replenished at an astoundingly slow pace. However, the Breakfast Wait Staff were very quick to submit a $0 bill to secure a tip.

* The personnel at the Hotel Bar were very professional and provided excellent service.

* The bed was comfortable.

* Upon our departure, we complained to the Front Desk yet again about the above issues. We never spoke to the Hotel Manager; s/he was never available. We did provide a written list of complaints.

We were given a $70,000 pesos adjustment for the above inconveniences, which is about $30 US Dollars.

* All of our initial and repeated requests AND complaints were met with "No problema", big smiles and assurances that everything would be taken care of in an expeditious manner.

In essence, the TRYP Staff were the most pleasant, lazy group of unprofessionals we have
ever had the displeasure of knowing. It felt as though they truly enjoyed our discomfort.

However, a South American associate explained to us that in order to obtain excellent service, we should have tipped the staff AT THE OUTSET OF OUR STAY in order to receive the services that are supposed to be provided at no extra cost.

Giving someone money for good service is called at TIP (propina).

Giving someone money to insure that s/he does his/her job PRIOR TO DOING IT is called a bribe (mordida).

If you are not adverse to bribing people to do their jobs in a professional manner AND you only have business at a local embassy AND, therefore, you don't mind being in an inconvenient location vis-a-vis touristic attractions AND you like drinking yellow, smelly water AND you enjoy percussive showers and flushing toilets, AND you like to hear your neighbors doing everything...., then the TRYP Hotel Embajada is the place for you!!!

I'm quite certain that this critical review of the TRYP Hotel will result in an apologetic and very polite letter from the TRYP Hotel Manager whom we never had the pleasure to meet. NOTHING can make-up for the miserable lack of professional integrity that we experienced during our recent stay at this Minus 4 Star Hotel. We can say with 100% certainty that we will NEVER stay at the TRYP Wyndam Hotel Embajada in Bogota, Colombia, and will avoid future visits to Wyndam Hotels worldwide for fear that the Wyndam Hotels have adopted this lousy level of service as its NEW Standard of Excellence.

Respectfully,

Mr. & Mrs. Jan H Brown
