The hotel is located near the central square. Botera Museum is two blocks away. Lots to do and see, all in walking distance.
Rooms are large but bathrooms are small in the old section of the hotel. The breakfasts are simple and good.

We can not say enough good things about Hotel Opera. Our luggage did not arrive with our flight and the airlines were not terribly helpful. But the front desk personnel were persevering and got our luggage to the hotel. The location of the hotel, the quality breakfast, clean rooms and above all, the service, are outstanding. Gladly would we stay here on future visits to Bogota...in fact we would not consider staying any where else.

The Hotel de la Opera is a hotel which many say is the best in Bogota. Well, for those who like old, classic-style charm, this hotel exudes plenty of atmosphere. The building is well preserved with unique artstyles like alcoves and statues and paintings. The room itself is very large and has an interesting terrace which warps around the room. The showers are beautifully tiled, and the bathroom as a whole is large and spacious (it also has a bathtub, which is a plus). The hotel grounds is just as picturesque, as is the spa/pool. Service is also old-school but in a good way.

Alas, what is old and charming can also been seen as archaic and uncomfortable. Case-in-point - the bed, which is hard as a rock. The breakfast is also surprisingly abysmal - very much lacking in variety.

That said, the hotel's location makes it a perfect place to stay for those exploring La Candelaria. It's basically right in the center - blocks from Botero Museum and the Gold Museum, the Bolivar Square, the restaurant with "El mejor ajiaco del mundo", etc. This advantage makes the hotel a very good place to stay for tourists who want to walk about the center of Bogota.

We were rebooked to this hotel because the place we had chosen had a technical problem with the room so were a bit skeptical on what we would get. Contrary to some other reviews we found the service nice, always attentive and friendly both at the front desk and in the restaurant. Breakfast was sumptous and again with good service. Rooms are clean but may seem a bit old-fashioned. This is made up for by the atmosphere of the colonial building and the beautiful interior patios where the restaurant is also located.
The hotel is in an excellent position to explore La Candelaria (old town) district of Bogotà during daytime. Streets did seem a bit deserted later at night which might deter you from walking to restaurants nearby.
The only downside is that rooms (even up in the 7th floor where we stayed) do get street noise in the evening which is probably an unavoidable downside of staying in a historical building in the old town.

We absolutely loved this place, great spacious room, fresh and tasty breakfast and dinner in a very light courtyard and a relaxing spa.

The view from room 710 and the cerviche really topped This off for us!!!

Located perfectly for a tourist vibe on a private street with security I would recommend this to all!

As I don't like to write too many reviews for free, I do enjoy writing for fellow traveler's. The hotel is well situated for people who like to just walk to the majority of the tourist sites: Bolivar Plaza, the Botero Museum and the Gold Museum.

The cost is about average due to its location. Taxi and bus service are available nearby or can be called to the hotel (taxis). Rooms are simple and are still holding their age although some updates are needed. You will find hot water, a flat screen tv and a lock box for your valuables.

Cleanliness: Rooms and areas were observed to be satisfactory. However, I did notice some food left on some seats during morning breakfast.

Free breakfast: I enjoyed it as it gives you typical American food e.g. omelet, oatmeal, fruit and some toast. Although we found the toaster to be broken during breakfast.

The pool and gym area are small but adequate. The spa is located in the same room as the pool. Hours are stable but it is best to ask to be sure it is open.

There are several seating areas for dinner and a restaurant up a few floors from the first floor area. Yes, there is an elevator if needed.

Noise from traffic: none because the hotel is located between small roads.

Check in and check out: Easy and they take credit cards from the USA.

I stayed in room 301 and there is no view as the hotel is situated attached to other buildings.

Issues: somewhat cold reception from several male employees at the front desk. The female counterpart is very courteous. During my stay, a wedding reception was being held in the upstairs restaurant which did not allow for any peace and quiet. The staff seemed to be without concern and I think management should be held responsible as the music went after midnight. No discounts or apologies. I suspect that this happens more often than not.

Room Tip: Ask if any parties will held and the ask to be changed to another room with less noise.

Firstly, we booked a junior suite for 3 online directly with hotel and then called to confirm our booking and notes of 3 persons. It was in US dollars. Upon arrival we were requested to pay the suite upfront, which we did, and provide a signed open ended, credit card slip. We were shocked to find out that an extra $75 a night was added to the final bill for the room. After much time of back and forth with the hotel, we just ate the additional couple hundred dollars. But we want to warn other traveller's about this hotel.

Also, we arrived at midnight. The hotel was locked and we banged, shouted on the street, called over and over, for 15 minutes before the desk clerk woke up and let us in. There are many police and private security guards on the street so we didn't feel in danger. But a beggar saw us with all our bags, shouting, and pestered us (street security did not shoo him away) until we were finally inside, which certainly didn't help the situation. This happened again 4 nights later with a group

The breakfast was average selection, but the espresso at the bar was ok. Room was big (suite) and shower ok. Wireless worked. Irritating to have the price changed. Would have stayed at a much nicer place at less price (we moved to Hilton for our last night on Bogota at only $179 /night for really excellent, service and 5 stars).

Saving feature is its location in old center. At least it's easy to walk around during day the old city (not safe at night).
