Owner description: Colombia's oldest museum holds a vast collection of archeological artifacts, as well as modern art. The building itself is interesting—it's a former prison and many of the galleries are inside former prison cells.

If you want to get a fast and good reliable info about Colombia, it's culture and art, this is the place to be.

Do not miss it.

Unfortunately the info inside the museum is only in spanish
Ask for English audio guide at reception.

We were pressed for time, so our two hours did not do justice to this museum, but if you are in Bogota, please try to visit.

We enjoyed reading about the different displays and seeing what was considered important to the people of Colombia.

This museum has a small store and snack bar, and there are also some good restaurants nearby.

Conceived in an old jail from the spanish era and refurbished to accommodate an array of art pieces from Colombian artists as well as European: a must to visit while in Bogota.

This museum was okay but I think one would enjoy it significantly more if they spoke Spanish. It's free on Sundays (which is great) but closed on Mondays (not so great). In the lobby for each floor, there were some English information sheets (the hard type). It was confusing for which room they belonged and it seems that some were missing. It would be great if there some pamphlets in other languages that you could carry around with you. My experience at the museum was greatly improved by a man at the information desk giving a short informational tour. He spoke with my friend and I about the history of building and museum and the layout. It was very helpful and another classic case of Colombian friendliness.
