“Hotel is pristine, neighborhood is lively”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

First of all many have commented on the neighborhood, so our expectation was that it would be out of the way on a scary street. Well, the street does have its' moments, but it is 1/2 block to the liveliest street in the City--always chock full of people doing all sorts of things. Instead of, as some suggest, being badly located, I found this hotel to be very well located--close to almost everything and close to the real pulse of Bogota. I wouldn't have traded it for some quiet old town type hotel for anything. Also, it is very close to the University of the Andes, which is the top university in the country. That being so, there is always a place to go late at night for pizza or other college type food with lots of smart kids walking around. We loved the arepas on the street, however, and could get them at the corner. We were also within easy walking distance of the Macarena District (best restaurants), Mount Montserrat, the best shopping arcades in the City, a few really nice Juan Valdez cafes, the museums etc. etc. In other words, you couldn't do better for a central location. We were careful, as cautioned (everywhere in Colombia), but sticking to the busy streets seemed to do the trick. I did not take a taxi the entire stay, and the only time I felt afraid at all was walking quiet streets at night from La Macarena.

As others have noted (and look at the photos), the building itself is drop dead gorgeous, newly rebuilt, and is very quiet. Having the City at your feet is handy because you will probably want to go out a lot just to get some social contact. But when it comes to sleeping, showers, breakfast etc. etc. the place is great. The staff is very friendly and when we left, I realized how much I had enjoyed them. I am so glad we stayed here and will again.

Room Tip: The upper floors have the great beamed ceilings. We stayed on a middle floor and it was nice. Not...

We enjoyed our stay here for 3 nights. It is a fairly new place, very quiet inside. Beautiful! Large room. Desk, good lighting, flat screen TV with lots of satellite stations. Very clean. There is an exercise room and spa (which we did not use). Great sleep, +hot water with great shower. Very friendly and helpful staff - we arrived after midnight and there was no waiting to get in the front door. They also arranged pickup at airport for us (and the driver waited, even after 1h flight delay, arriving past midnight. WiFi very strong (and fast) in guestroom.

Located between Centro and Candelara - it takes about 15-20 min to walk to the "middle" of Candelara.

A few downsides:
-Neighborhood is somewhat rough, especially in the evenings. It *is* right off Carrera 7, which is a main drag, BUT everything is closed up in the evening time and feels like ghost town (and felt dangerous too). There is no good eating nearby (except for Subway and street food).
-Cold! No heaters in the rooms. Blanket very thin.
-Breakfast was passable.

The minus-1 was mostly for location and the fact that there was no heater in the room. Otherwise, nice place!

We were looking for something comfortable because we were not feeling well. When we first saw this hotel we were a bit doubtful because of the few reviews. The hotel is very new, restored colonial house (very beautiful inside) with big rooms and beautiful very warm showers. On top the service was excellent, the whole team was very helpful with every request we had! The neighborhood of candelaria is very safe at day and you need to be a bit more careful later at night. The hotel informs very well what to do or not to do!

The Santa Lucia Hotel is a beautifully restored colonial house in a very central location (on the border of the areas Centro and Candelaria). The house also has historical connections: it once belonged to Simon Bolivar. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean and decorated tastefully. There is an excellent Wifi connection in the room, and the staff is superb. They truly go out of their way to make your stay more comfortable.
There is a café/bar on the main floor and a very pretty courtyard. A hot breakfast is included in the price of the room (fruit juice, fresh fruit, eggs and toast, and coffee, tea or hot chocolate). The hotel is within walking distance to many great museums and the Candelaria area.
For me, the only downside of this hotel was its location in the evenings. There are some fast-food restaurants in the area, but not a decent one to have a good sit-down meal. The hotel has a restaurant, but has no service in the evening yet. As a woman traveling alone for work, I felt that the area where this hotel is located is not the safest, especially on the weekends (in the evening) and after the work crowd has left the area (between 6:30/7:00 p.m.). The hotel can arrange safe taxis to travel to other parts of the city or to the airport. I would strongly encourage this if you decide to stay here and want to check out some of the restaurants in the Candelaria area or the other parts of the city for dinner.

Room Tip: I stayed in a junior suite and they are very spacious.
