“Fabulous for €99 p/n incl breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2013 via mobile

We decided to try out this hotel for our last 2 nights in French Guiana (having stayed at the very expensive Ker on our first 2 nights) and we were not disappointed by the Novotel at all. There is only 1 fault (mentioned by other reviewers) and that is that the rooms have a musty odour that I think is caused by the lack of airing of the room and constantly running the air conditioning. They evidently know of this problem since the room has an automatic air fresher that squirts every few minutes. We left the balcony door open as much as we could and the air con off and it did help (or we got used to the smell!!). We booked direct on Novotel website.
I requested a quiet room and was given 119 which is beside the lobby, I didn't need to go into the room to know that it wound not be quiet and they knew too so gave us 333 which faces the entrance so was not silent but I was grateful not to be beside the lobby.

The room was a good size, comfortable, clean, the bathroom had lots of space to our things, the balcony had table and chairs which was nice. Breakfast was plentiful and had nespresso coffee. Free WiFi was good. All communal areas are very nice and stylish showing some thought went into it. It has a resort feel to it. Pool nice and location by beach nice for a walk. We had a snack in the restaurant although a little expensive was good quality and staff efficient. Staff at front desk that speak English are friendly, the ones that don't are rude and just say i don't speak English and refuse to even try to understand the bit of French that you might be trying to speak. There is a gym, my husband told me 2 of the machines did not work, we let them know when we left so hope they fix them. They let us keep our room until 2 since we had a late flight. You probably need a car if staying although the #2 bus leaves from the door of the hotel and goes to the market area in town which is practically the centre. I would stay here again for this rate or close to it. Were it not for the odour in the room I would have voted this hotel as excellent but due to that gave it only very good.

Positif : Clean rooms, small but nice swimmingpool, busstation just on the entrance, hotel just on the beach,

Negatif : bad smell in the rooms, very bad service for clients. Reception doesn't want to call to reserve any restaurant in town, because they have own restaurant. Breakfast needs to be eaten in hotel. It is not possible to take it with you when you are doing an excursion from 6 am. You have to pay extra, even if your breakfast is included in your room.

Located by the beach, with a swimming pool and commodities, this is a nice hotel.
Rooms are clean, even though mine was a 'smoking' one, and therefore smelled old smoke a lot, next time I'll ask for a non smoker room.
The bathroom is convenient, in Novotel standards.
Free parking lot. You need a car to access the city, there is a bus stop very close to the entrance, but I honestly don't know where it goes.
Free wifi, that has some issues, but they try to fix this.
The restaurant is expensive, waiters are nice, but not really motivated and slow. Not much of a choice of alternatives restaurants outside anyway.
Very average breakfast.
Note that locals seem to enjoy the week end promotions, so if you stay on week end days, anticipate your booking.
For that price, there is a higher level hotel downtown.

The hotel is very nice, tropical lush. On the beach , the sea water is muddy due to the proximity of the Amazon estuary. The hotel , staff , food are great . Not far from Cayenne down town . Very quite hotel

Excellent service, helpful staff, they made all the arrangements for pick up and drop off to the airport and even helped me change my flight. The staff helped me pick up for small souvenirs. Downfall is that it is a place to have a group of person to tour. lovely place and great competent staff didn't expect 4star service. Will def. be there soon again. Oh its a bit pricey but well worth it.

Novotel in Cayenne is surely having its clients, there are simply not much choice.

I liked the open area for the reception, but moving down the hall, you had a bad smell of humidity. I guess the fact of being so close to the jungle, nevertheless, not nice.

Fitness room is sparse (disappointing), pool is ok.

I like the decor of the lounge area and restaurant. Allthough I had a bad experience with the service - which was extremely slow and billed me wrongly.

The suggested taking a look at the turtles in the early morning, which I had. While at the beach I was attacked by somekind of mosquito/flies. I had more than 100 hundreds bites. Nobody seem to have heard about this before at the hotel (which I find strange) and didn't really bother about me flagging a bit of a worry with the fact of being attacked by swarms of flying things not noing the consequences. Well, if it happens to you, don't worry, it will itch for some days and swallow up but eventually will disappear!!

Not sure what you will do in Cayenne if not there for business! Although Mediocore, it is probably your best choice in Cayenne.
