Reviewed 23 May 2013

I stayed here 3 nights on a business trip. First impression wasn't good. I had asked the hotel to arrange for my transportation from the airport and their driver didn't show up. Being the last person at Georgetown airport, late on a Sunday night isn't a good feeling.

Other than the driver, the staff was very personable and helpful. I especially liked Mr. Baccuss and the bartender.
The room itself is pretty basic. It's a bed, one chair, a small desk, nightstand, lamp and mini-fridge with no outside windows. There is a window into the hall that radiates flouuescent light into your room while you try to sleep. Not sure why that seemed like a good idea when they were building the place. I did have quite a few bugs in my room, but this is common any time you're staying near the rain forest, or in a 3rd world country. However, it was pretty clean. The bathroom was very basic, but everything worked. It's like a hostel with a private bath.
The free breakfast was pretty weak. Coffee toast and maybe some fruit (they were out my first day)
Hotel is located about 2 blocks off Sheriff street, which is the main drag. It's within walking distance of plenty of places to eat, grocery stores, and bars. However, I don't recommend walking here after 9pm, or so.
If you're expecting the Ritz, you probably shouldn't be staying here or traveling to Guyana in the first place. If you're the type of person who's traveling here for an ecotour, or a business-person accustomed to 3rd world countries, you'll be just fine... I'll likely stay here again when I return.

Dear Sir
Thank you for the comments you posted.
I am sorry about the driver not being there to pick you up from the airport. But from what I understand, you had called front desk and the connection was bad. I am very sorry about that and will ensure that it does not occur again. You can also email us with the relevant flight info and details next time and we will be surely there to collect you from the airport.
We thank you for your other comments and hope to see you soon.

There are Certain Pros and Cons to this Hotel.
The Pros Being:
* The Hotel is in George Town. That could be good for someone who conducts business in George town and travelers who are there to stay for a bit.
* The Hotel is cut off from the busy streets if you want the peace of mind from the bustle of traffic
* The food of the hotel is really good.
* The wifi is good in open areas but weak in the rooms
* The rooms come with a fridge, a complimentary bottle of water, microwave, safe and coffee pot.
* The staff very friendly and helpful.
The Cons being:
* As the hotel is in George Town which is around 45 mins drive or 1hrs plus in peak traffic hours, be ready to shell out anyway between $ 20 to $30 for a taxi to get to this hotel, I paid $30 one way in short the hotel ended up costing me$60 plus the room cost.
* I had called the hotel as I was arriving late at night (wee hrs of the morning) but my room wasn't ready on arrival. My room A/C was only turned on when I checked in which didn't cool either hence had to change it causing inconvenience at 4am.
* Not all rooms have a phone to make calls to the reception or restaurant moreover there are no elevator, this hotel has ground plus 4 floors so be prepared to walk up and down every time if you need something. I had a room on the 4th floor even though the hotel was next to empty.
* My room's Television was at the entrance so were the double beds hence couldn't lie on the bed and watch TV.
* The rooms have a coffee and tea but not sugar nor milk powder.
*My Bathrooms flush didn't work hence had to open the top every time to adjust it.
* No cable television.
* The food is surely good but greasy.
*The free breakfast is not really free, if you ask for eggs and sausage they charge you for it, the only free is the coffee, juice and toast that is what they term free breakfast.
In a nutshell $247 for two nights wasn't justifiable at all.

Room Tip: Rooms on the lower floors are advisable as there are no elevators

Dear Sir
We thank you for your comments that were posted on Trip Advisor
1. You stated that that our rooms are overpriced and below basics. In response to this, we are of the position that our rooms are comparably priced with other hotels in Georgetown of similar quality and standard. Amenities that are in each room include a mini-fridge, microwave oven, telephone, coffee maker, steam iron and ironing board, A/C, fan, personal safe, FREE Wi-Fi internet service, and a television.
2. Pros and Cons:
Thank you for the compliments and thank you for choosing to stay at Kanuku Suites. As for the "cons", we do not have any control over the cost of the taxi fare, nor do we have any control of the distance and the time it takes to travel from Cheddi Jagan International Airport to Kanuku Suites.
3. You stated that not all rooms have a telephone. This is not the case. All of our rooms have a phone along with a list of extensions to the various departments such as the bar and front desk.
4. You stated that there is no elevator. This is correct, however, plans are currently in the making to have an elevator installed in the hotel.
5. You stated that our hotel has a ground floor plus four other floors. Our hotel consists of four floors, including the ground floor.
6. You stated that the breakfast is not free. Please let me clarify. When a guest books a room with Kanuku Suites, a continental breakfast is included with each night's stay. However, should a cooked breakfast be ordered an additional cost is charged of US$2.50
7. Finally, you stated that you total cost for a one night stay at our hotel came to a total of $106 US dollars. Unfortunately we cannot comment on this, since the booking is made through Expedia.
In closing, we would like to thank you for your "cons", as this can only help us to improve our services and upon your next visit, you would be pleasantly surprise.

Best Regards,
Management ,

After our mixed experience with Cara Suites, we, for people on a business trip, went to Kanuku Suites to have some rest and have a head quarter for our work.

People there were very friendly and accommodating. We received four room at the top floor, which has lots of common space we were allowed to modify to our needs.

This hotel is very quiet, still within reach of everything and personnel is efficient and friendly. The only thing that I feel could need some improvement is actually the breakfast, which is relatively slow and scarce.

Cheers,

Room Tip: If you can stand some heat take a room on the fourth floor.

Kanuku Suites is a nice, quiet hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to help. The restaurant located on site serves incredible seafood dishes. It is in a good location in my opinion. The TV channels are limited, but it's not like watching TV is of any importance to me when I'm on vacation (I can do that when I get home). They even offer tours. The rooms are clean and priced affordably. I have no complaints about my stay. Will be coming here again in the future.

The hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly. The shower curtains can be a bit more long so as not to let the water spill out the tub. TV could at least be on cable for the price you pay. No entertainment at this hotel but you will get a good night rest. Lots of stairs to climb so be prepared. Overall it is a good place to stay.

This was my second stay at the Kanuku Suites. Located 2 blocks off Sheriff street. Excellent staff, the rooms are spacious and are a great value. They have free internet in the rooms, on-site restaurant that serves the best seafood, cozy little bar in the front terrace. Great place if you are in Guyana on business. Plus, they specialize in setting up eco-tours for the interior of Guyana all the way down to the Brazilian border. The staff is amazing...they handled all my requests and knew my name from day 1. Very easy local to get taxi's and there are local bars and a supermarket within a 5 minute walk.
