I have stayed at the Torarico and The Residence on a past visit and as I was staying for over 2 weeks this time was desperate to find somewhere quieter and more comfortable. The Courtyard definitely filled the bill, superb bed, quiet location, excellent service the only drawback was the food which I found tasteless and over priced - it was presented well though!! Forced to eat out at different restaurants I had an amazing stay and sampled various cuisines - ALL delicious but Martins' Thai restaurant was the best without doubt. Looking forward to January........

Room Tip: I had a top floor river view as I wanted quiet.

Just returned form a wondeful trip to Paramaribo and a relaxing stay at this relatively new Marriott property. Compared with the other hotels in the Surinam this one has great rooms for reasonable prices. However, we used our Marriott Rewards points to pay for the stay. Please check the special MR offer: pay 4 nights & get an extra night for free!
The rooms are huge and contain the usual Courtyard items like a fridge, working desk, LCD tv, a safe big enough for your laptop and free use of the internet. Another great plus are the modern fitness equipment, a decent pool, free wireless internet in the lobby, an ATM and a complimentary shuttle service to the city center which runs almost every 2 hours from 7:00-23:00. My advice, do book the shuttle in advance at the reception ,because the minibus will not automatically show up in front of the hotel!

As with all hotels there are always some points that can be improved. Eg. the dining & bar service. Do not expect service on a constant level. Sometimes it can take a long time before the staff is able to make a simple thing like a cup of coffee. On the other hand the quality of the food is okay. Do try the chicken satay, which is very delicious! For breakfast the Courtyard is also the place to be. For US$ 12 plus taxes you can enjoy the buffet. It offers cold cuts, various sorts of breads, fruits and yoghurt, warm meat and fish rolls an egg station and some local warm dishes like noodles/chicken/fish (if that is your cup of tea in the morning).

The cost for picking you up from the J.A. Pengel airport is US$ 15 per person, which can be charged to your room. You can arrange it by calling the hotel a couple of days before arrival. My advice is to make use of this service which avoids stress and money. The local taxi drivers are often asking you more for the one hour ride to the hotel.

Around the hotel there is not really a lot to do. You can take a little walk to the best Chinese restaurant in town called Chi Min and a little supermarket which is just a couple of doors next to the restaurant. Do not expect a bus stop either. So do make use of the shuttle bus which takes you to the Krasnapolsky hotel, but you can also ask the driver to stop on the way to the center. Places like the charming Waterkant, Fort Zeelandia and the popular cafe 'Het Vat' or the famous Torarica hotel & casino can be reached very easily that way.

The Courtyard is a good choice if you are planning a visit to Paramribo. It is safe, clean, has a friendly staff and offers reasonable rates. Although it would have been nicer if the breakfast was included in the price of the room. Perhaps the local touroperators can offer you a nice rate which includes this. Also expect everything priced in US$. It is a lot cheaper (at least less 50% compared with the hotel) to by bottles of water, beverages and snacks at the regular supermarkets which are plentiful available throughout the city. Another tip, if you do not want to dine in the hotel restaurant, just call a taxi driver to deliver some food from the many tasty restaurants that Paramaribo offers. A great number of them offer take away service which is very populair with the locals.

The courtyard is a business hotel but is also good for people who just want to visit the country and have a nice place to relax. The rooms are spacious and well kept. The staff is friendly and very courteous( always willing to go out of the way to accommodate your needs.) They provide amenities such as free internet in the business center with coffee and tea, pool, gym and even room service so you don't have to leave your room when you still have work to do. Overall the service is excellent, especially the wait staff at the restaurant. They serve an international menu too, but have some Surinamese dishes also . I would stay here again, it's close by to all my meeting in the town which is only about 5-10min.

Room Tip: apply for the marriott rewards.

We stayed at this new Marriott Courtyard for three days and found it to be a very nice facility. The building itself is exceptionally clean, in good repair and nicely decorated in bright and cheerful colors. We had a suite, which was very nice and extremely comfortable. The pool is nice, although I wish it had been a bit bigger. The food was fine, although I thought the breakfast could have included a few more items. The only problem I found was that the service was extremely slow, particularly in the dining room. Many times we came down to eat and could not find a clean table. The room cleaning service was a bit slow on the take as well. The hotel is on the edge of the Suriname River and affords a nice river view from the back. The staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful - the wait staff a bit less so. It is a ways to town, if you wish to go through the shops, so most people will have to take a taxi, as the hotel is out of town quite a distance. This, however, keeps the surroundings quiet and peaceful. his hotel is undoubtedly the best in town and really quite nice. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Business trip to Paramaribo in July 2010.

Fast and friendly check-in. Room spacious, bright and everything still seemed like new.
Staff, efficient and super-friendly, always willing to help. Very impressive.
Disappointed that there was no room service offered! That was a big problem for me. The staff were sympathetic and once ordered a pizza delivery from a local Pizza Hut but not exactly my favourite food! As a solo business traveller, I prefer to dine in my room and work rather than sit in a deserted restaurant. Room service is a must.
Pool was closed for maintenance, which should really have been mentioned on the website, but it opened later in week.
The location is not great. Bit far to walk into the town, especially in the heat. Might be ok if you fancy a leisurely stroll along the roadside but not really practical for getting to meetings. A taxi was required every day and even just to pop to supermarket (to buy sandwiches for my dinner!).
I'd like to stay there again but unless they start room service I'll be forced to use the Torarica again. A pleasant stay overall.

We stayed for 7 days in May and must say that we had a great time there. The overall service was very good. With well-trained, very friendly and helpful staff. It’s worth a compliment.
The room was clean, spacious with nice furniture and a great bed.
Breakfast was also very good.

We selected this hotel for it’s location, not too far from the entertainment centre. There is also a complimentary Shuttle service to the centre. The location was perfect for us and we really enjoyed
our stay at this hotel.
