“You could just as well be in Chicago or Tampa - but it's clean, new, and efficient”

Compared to some hotels in SUR where service and amenities are - to say the least - lacking, the new Marriott Courtyard is a dream. Fast check-in, spotless rooms, decent internet, good food. As of spring 2010 this is a nearly brand new hotel, so it definitely sparkles.

Really the only downside here is that it's a generic Marriott property with absolutely no charm or personality whatsoever. The room looks like every other newer Marriott room around the world. That's kind of a shame when you travel to such an out-of-the-way place but get no local pizazz for the trouble. But for some travelers, access to a reliable and comfortable hotel may be the priority in which case you are unlikely to be disappointed.

Small quibbles: no wireless internet available during our stay: had to plug in to the supplied cable connection. At least it was free. Also, hot water was a bit spotty and wake up call came 15 minutes late.

The Toraricas, Spanhoek, and Krasnapolsky are all within easy walking distance of the action in Parimaribo.... the Marriott is a bit further afield, requiring a taxi or the free shuttle to see things on foot. The $10 airport transfer is a very good deal.

Stayed for 3 nights in the Courtyard Marriott in Paramaribo Suriname. The airport shuttle was excellent both up and down at only Us$10,- . The rooms are spacious, only small disadvantage is that your hear noise from the central airco system on the topfloor. Service is perfect as is the restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Did not take diner. Hotel has taxi's available on site. Taxi's have no meter so negotiate price before you leave.

Very good hotel with good service. Wireless internet in the lobby is a big plus!! very fast connection.I have stayed there for 8 nights and for the last 2 nights I got a upgrade to a Room on the 5th floor with a balcony and riverview, which was super!! I have stayed in the Royal Torarica as well but I must say I felt more comfortable at the Courtyard . I think the people who are working there are very friendly!

I will definitely will return to this hotel.

Just stayed zeven nights in Marriot Paramaribo with my 23 year old daughter.
Very nice experience. Friendly staff, great rooms and very nice pool.
You just have to be aware that it takes a ten minutes walk to get into the centre of Paramaribo, but there are always very cheap taxi's available at the hotel entrance.
We tried one of the other "best hotels"in the city, but believe me Marriot sets the standard in Paramaribo.

Not easy to get to Suriname from the US. At least two flights to this formerly Dutch country on the Northeast edge of South America. Main city, Paramaribo is only 10 kilometers south from the Caribbean Sea (but 1 hour's drive from the airport!) and is a combination of old Dutch colonial (the downtown is a historic site, which leads to some stasis in the ability to "improve" the infrastructure) and hectic, upgrading, developing country. Almost everyone speaks Dutch, English and the local patois and folks are extremely friendly.
.
Arrived very late at nite after a long day of travel and was more than pleased to be at a Courtyard (my favorite brand). Despite the tropical fauna, the drive-on-the-left (not the middle!) lane, and the foreign culture, this was like than every other Courtyard I've been too. Maybe better.
.
Clean, very new property, right on the Suriname River and Anton Drachtenwag - which is the main road just north of the downtown. Stocked pantry, pleasant in-hotel dining (food in Suriname is extremely diverse, fresh and very good!), and a terrific business center with a nicely-stocked color printer! Many folks who stayed at the Toraico (the older, grand hotel of Paramaribo) realized they should have stayed here.
.
Staff was pleasant, well-trained and eager to please. Made me feel welcome. Rooms were spacious and very nicely decorated. Elevators worked better than a lot of hotels. Ice machine had plenty of ice. All the good stuff that one takes for granted in the US but doesn't always get in developing countries.
.
Internet was a bit slow, but this may have been a country-wide thing, not the hotel. I should've used the pool to refresh -- my fault.
.

I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Paramaribo for 4 days in August and I must say I had a very good experience. I have visited a few other courtyards, mostly in the US and to my understanding the one in Suriname just recently opened. The service was great! the girls at the front desk and the waiters/bartenders were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the food and drinks,I thought it was very good but maybe a little pricey. The rooms were excellent and the facility was nice qnd clean, the only down fall is the location.
