Guesthouse Albergo Alberga is great budget location to explore exotic Paramaribo from. This is a bare bones guest house, for the budget traveler that offers good value, with basic clean accommodations, a 24 hr reception desk, a small above ground pool, a nice communal balcony, wireless internet, a very basic breakfast (extra fee) ...and best of all a fabulous location.
I travelled there with a friend for the Diwahli festival in Nov 2010 and we stayed two nights. Our room had a fairly comfortable double bed, a private shower and bathroom, a fan (you can book a room with air conditioning, there were none available during our stay). Prices range from $17 to $40 Euros...so very reasonably priced....but don't expect luxury...Our room did come with some low end toiletries and two towels but that was about it. Also expect some steep staircases to climb..our room was on the top floor...so if three flights of narrow windy stairs several times a day is not your thing...be forewarned.
They can book you tours, rent bikes and sell beverages (including beer) from a cooler in the lobby. While in “Parbo” as the locals call it be sure to try some of the fabulous Dutch foods, stroll along the waterfront and visit perhaps the world's most bizarre covered market...where you can buy bones, feathers, beads, chicken feet and of course fresh fruit and vegetables.
If you are looking for a clean place to crash for a few days while exploring Paramaribo and saving $ before taking that fabulous eco tour in Suriname... Albergo Alberga serves the purpose well.
