Eco Resort

This hotel is mailnly dominated by groups with people over 50. If you like a average, european style hotel this would be fine. The location, near the town centre, is very good. But further noting really special. There are better options like guestouse Amice. I did finally leave Eco resort and went there.

I had a day room here prior to a 2am airport transfer.

No serious complaints, really, but most of the rooms are very generic motel-like. That's not bad, but close the drapes and you could be in Indianapolis or Frankfurt. For all its generic-ness, it was indeed clean, there was plenty of hot water, Satellite TV and wireless internet functioned well, and there was plenty of parking for those with cars.

Tip of the hat to the friendly and efficient desk staff.

I liked the front wooden building with its Demerrara Windows and wooden porch bar. Too bad that charm didn't translate to the rooms.

It's a little bit of a trek into town... give it 15 minutes on foot to the hub of activity around the other Torairica hotels.

Not sure what is "eco" about this place, and am pretty sure it doesn't qualify for "resort" in anyone's book. So don't have any expectations based on the name.

While in Suriname I also stayed at the Spanhoek and found it to be in a livelier location and nicer overall. I visited friends staying in the main/old Torairica Hotel/Casino: the interior decor there will mercilessly and apologetically welcome you back to the 1970's. The newest Royal Torairica bordered on sterile but it was indeed modern and posh.

I would recommend this hotel for someone on a tight budget who, like me, just needed a place to freshen up before a long international journey back home. If you plan on exploring and experiencing Paramaribo, you'd be better off spending just a little more money for something a little closer to the center of activity.

Eco Resort Hotel gives me as a Surnames-American the feeling that i am at home at home. The service is excellent on all fronts. This hotel picks you up from the airport and brings you back on your way home. Furthermore, breakfast is included in the price. During my last trip to Suriname, I flew with the general manager of the hotel and her husband. Upon arrival on Zandery Airport, a Parbo Bieri was waiting for me.

I was concerned, having read previous reviews, that this might not have been a good choice but it was a clean hotel (we stayed in the new, non-smoking wing) - beds good, certainly no plastic sheets as per previous review! - fridge in room - you could also request hairdriers, adapters, coffee makers at no extra cost. Breakfast functional but basic - we were only there for 5 days and it reminded me of a "holiday inn" breakfast. Staff very helpful and spoke English (rare comodity in Suriname).

I would rate this hotel 1 star. It is grim. The mattress must be covered in plastic because it "crunched" every time I moved. The breakfast buffet was sparse and not appealing... a couple fried eggs in a warming tray... white bread for toast... some sort of spicy chicken with corn niblets... if you want bottled water it is $1.50/bottle even though I didn't eat anything at the buffet. The bathrooms have shower stalls with the slightest of lips to keep the water in. The shower head doesn't move, so with no shower cap, it was difficult to keep my hair dry. The lounge area is small and tawdry. Most of the other guests looked like hikers... so, maybe it is a good intro to the interior. However, I had business meetings and needed to be at my best. This hotel did not help.

On the positive side, the staff are friendly, and the room was clean.

Bottom line... not worth the $82... the sister resort, Torarica is MUCH better...

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. December 7, 8, 9, 2007, Before flying down to the interior of Suriname. I enjoyed my visit to this establishment. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, as were the restaurant staff. The housekeeping staff did a good job keeping my room made up. This hotel reminded me of the 1930's to 1950's, but well maintained. It is located close to the tourist atttractions. The owner of this hotel also owns the hotel next door the Torarica, and Eco resort guest's are allowed to use their swimming pool. I had a ground floor room # 158. The rate was $ 65 U.S.D. per night. Quite reasonable. This place is full of old world colonial class and charm, very nostalgic. The free breakfast buffet is located under a giant palm frond palapa at the rear of the hotel grounds, that overlooks the Suriname River. I rate this hotel as two and a half to three stars. I think you will really enjoy your stay here. I did !
