This former Russian embassy, with a beautiful garden, has been redesigned to be a hotel. Actually it is more of an inn or guest house. The hotel also bought the houses around the embassy and converted these into guest rooms.

I found it difficult to rate this guest house. A definite plus is the staff. They are very friendly, natural and kind, and make you feel welcome, unlike for example the expensive Marriott Courtyard hotel further down the street. The atmosphere of this guest house is absolutely warm.

There are many minuses though. It is quite expensive, 70 dollars a night, and they charge 5% (!) extra for a payment with a credit card. They actually want cash only.
For this amount of money, the room is extremely basic, with the worst the bathroom: virtually no amenities whatsoever. Moreover, the bathroom had a terrible smell, probably due to an open connection in the floor with the sewage. The smell entered the bedroom, and after it had rained, the smell was so terrible that one could not stay in the room.
The wifi is very slow, and can therefore not be used at all times.
The bedroom furniture is also very basic with a dirty spotted rug that the cleaning lady brooms (!), no vacuum cleaning; they should throw the rug away. The linen is old and outdated, but clean.
The breakfast at the pool, after a walk through the beautifully kept garden is absolutely charming. Open air, birds and blossoming trees around you, with dangling mangoes, and Surinamese apples.
However, the food ordered for lunch is absolutely of low quality. I had a caesar salad that was only lettuce, 1 egg, 2 to slices of tomatoes en diced bread (not crumbs, just bread) at 28 dollar, they have totally no clue in the kitchen. It was absolutely tasteless, I had to throw it away.

One should not come here for the luxury. But if you want a nice river view from the public balcony in front, a supermarket nearby, ample parking space, and absolutely friendly staff, and a very nice garden with fruit and birds, this is your place for a far more authentic Surinamese experience than the large hotels offer. Be prepared for a basic experience though, and ask for a room without a smell.

Room Tip: Ask a room without open sewage connection in the bathroom

Somehow I found the front desk staff even though efficient not so warm and welcoming on both my two visits to this hotel.
It's pretty well laid out with a cozy garden and seating ideal for reading or just relaxation.
Despite the rooms were spacious it lacked a comfy feeling.
My sandwich order took longer than I thought it would take.

Being now a resident in Parbo, i took a weekend off from all the daily hassle to spend with friends in this hotel.
Staff is friendly, although not totally educated on the way service needs to be given. They do accomodate your every wish. We arrived on time for check in and our rooms were not ready. So we got to sit by the pool ( believe me, a necessary acccessory for living in the tropics) and we got to check out an hour later than usual!
The rooms are furnished relatively cheap, but then: we came to chill poolside.
And thats what we did, pretty much all of 2 days. It was wonderful swimming under the stars, sipping wine and just relaxing. The pool is most definitely the best asset here. The garden is filled with fruit trees and if your lucky, the staff will pick the fruit for you, right from the tree!
Better get your food in the city, much cheaper. But there is a restaurant wich caters to " fusion cuisine ": a mix of surinamese taste and french cooking......if you can emagine that!
Overall, 2-3 stars, but the pool was fantastic.

Room Tip: We took a room in the garden, but maybe the main house would be better.

What makes everything so special in this country are the people and the staff at the Residence is no exception. Unfortunately there is not much else about the hotel that imarks as high. The rooms are large but sparce and cheaply furnished. the dining room wins the dubious award for the worst dinner and most consistently boring breakfasts. The lobby is non-existent, the grounds large and unimaginative; the distance to the city's centre unnecessarily far. If you don't get a great rate, go elsewhere

The Residence Inn is a very comfortable place for your stay in Paramaribo. We had a very large and spacious room (deluxe in the main building) which suited very well for our 9 day stay.

The personell is very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is very nice and comprehensive. A nice asset is the garden with the swimming pool.

A few point for improvement: wifi is too expensive (in fact should be free) and the personell is not always well informed or proactive in their communication. Eg. When the pool was closed, we only find out trough other guests that we could use the swimming pool at the Marriot.

But overall a good choice!

Room Tip: the deluxe rooms are very spacious. not all the rooms outside the main building have a balcony or po...

I love the gardent setting of this hotel, its pool and great customer service. The breakfast was good also. I think the linen should be updated but the rooms were clean big and effecient. The hotel is outside of the city center in a nice quiet area about 15 minutes walk from the hotel Torarica. I paid 55 dollars a night and internet was an additional 6 dollars a day. This should be free. Today there are many hotels and apts. in Suriname to choose from.

I am a resident in Parmaribo.
The entree for the small swimming pool is $ 8,30 . On top of that the food is very expenisive and of poor quality. The chicken was dry and hard to eat, the peanut butter sauce tasted like it had been in a plastic bag in the freezer for a long time. Fries were sloppy. It was all old freezer food.
Overall overpriced.
People want to earn their money too fast.
