“Nice hotel for someone who does not want to go to a "big chain hotel"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2013

I spent there 5 days in January. People are very nice and the rooms are nice as well. It is of course not the luxury from a big chain hotel but it is very good situated in Waterkant (better than the other hotels).
Breakfast is not good. You get a lot of help of people in the reception for anything (trips to organise, airport pickup etc). The internet is good. But, just around the corner you have a place to eat (just behind the National Assembly). The place is not fancy at all (actually, it is a take away) but the food is GREAT and soooo cheap. A lot of locals each there.
Enjoy your stay in Suriname!

Room Tip: You can have one with views to the river!

Stayed here a fortnight and the stay was very pleasant. The staff is extremely helpful and the rooms are spasious. The road in front gets a bit noisy at times, but that is not an exception in Paramaribo. Would stay here again!

The hotel is near the historic Dutch settlement.
LPM is a colonial building, meaning no elevators and no central air.
Also no doorman - so if you have heavy luggage best of luck.
Breakfast is fine, 7-10 daily, 8-11 weekends.
Only two restaurants in walking distance, and then you must pass some abandoned buildings and "Palm Park", addict zone.
A stay at the hotel entitles one to fitness room and pool privileges at Torarica.
Ride to/from airport is USD50 o/w, or shared shuttle is USD20 o/w.
Downtown requires walking 2-3 km or going by the market, which causes one to be in an undesirable area.
Cabs can be arranged easily.
I cannot tell if say Sheva is comparable or a better option.

Nice hotel on the Waterkant, next to the Onafhankelijksplein, perfect location. We stayed in march 2012 at Room 45, nice big clean room with good bed, airco, fridge and splendid riverview. Shower stopped giving water every 30 seconds, but resumed quickly; way of saving water? The only drawback of the location and riverside room is the music and noise going on all night. Youngsters with their boembox cars, doors open, playing loud music and dancing until approx. 05.00 am ... Very simple breakfast, not in accordance with the quality of the hotel. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Ridiculous prices for laundry; we payed us$80 for two small sets of laundry.

I just got back from Suriname, where i stayed at la Petite Maison from 19/3/12 to 24/3/12. I Stayed in room 32, the room was small and basic, did have a mini bar, but was very clean, with king sized bed which was very comfortable.

I requested shuttle service in advance, which is $15.00usd (which doesnt pick you up only) $40.00 usd for private taxi. It was there on time, and the driver was very pleasant and helpful.

At first entry to the hotel, I didnt like the idea of no elevator, but i was on the first floor so after the first night it didnt bother me too much, The receptionist on first entry was very pleasant, when i got to the room and called asking about the wifi, she actually came upstairs with the wifi code and gave me personally.

Breakfast next morning was very nice and had a variety to choose from and also had something everyday, lots of fruits too. I must also mention that the breakfast lady Shirtley ,she is a very pleasant, helpful and patient lady as i got to breakfast almost past the time almost everyday, she was very accomodating...very nice lady.

I must say all the workers at the hotel are very nice and pleasant people, from the cleaners to the recepionists. Nothing is too big or small for them to help with with... I think everyone in Suriname is sooo nice and pleasant...

The hotel is on the side of Paramaribo where there is lots of activities, and the sakerant river is on this side too also its in a nice colonial garden setting, restaurants and walking distance ( would recommend the one at the back of the museum - Very nice food and very reasonable) Walking distance to the heart of town too (this i may add that everything is reasonable...great for shopping)

The hotel is perfect if you just want a bed and breadfast and would be out most of the time, one thing about the hotel I didnt like, was the fact that the guests walked too heavily that it woke me up on mornings (the floors are wood not concrete).

I definitely will go back to the la Petite Maison, its feels homely there, at a very good price for best location and service.... Suriname feels really safe, its clean and everyone seems really pleasant...

Cory

Room Tip: i think the garden view rooms will be perfect, the ones facing the river also faces the road can be...

My husband stayed here with a friend in 2010 as a start of their jungle experience. Because he liked this hotel so much, we decided to stay in this hotel again during our 2011 holiday in Suriname. It's a lovely, colonial hotel. You can use a card that gives you access to the swimming pool of the nearby Torarica hotel. The hotel is perfectly situated next to the 'Onafhankelijkheidsplein' and the residential palace of president Desi Bouterse. Across the street you are at the 'Waterkant', the place to be for the inhabitants of Paramaribo. We enjoyed our stay. One advice: please be aware of the mosquitos in the breakfast room.

Room Tip: Rooms with the river view have the advance of a balcony.

La Petite Maison in Paramaribo was a lovely surprise. Located right on the river (Waterkant), La Petite Maison is a well maintained old colonial building with pleasant and helpful staff. Apart from the mediocre breakfast, I can highly recommend this hotel and will defiintely stay there again if I return to Suriname.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river have a large, shared balcony but may be noisy at times due to the "party bus...
