“Expensive Hotel-Not worth the price”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

On arrival, the hotel looks Ok, but once you enter things go down hill from there. the lobby is kind of bare, its not warm and inviting. then the staff uniforms are worn out, very worn out. going up the stairs to rooms, the carpet is very dirty. i thought maybe it was becasue we had arrived in the morning (10am) but during the stay the carpet remained looking filthy. The food in the restaurant was bland, with very little variety. and then the hotel has this habit of calling you to remind you about your bill, and to remind you when you are checking out. i found this very unprofessional. also it is terribly expensive for the cost. i paid US$316, per night, and this did not include breakfast.

The rooms were however good, the bad very comfortable, although the house keeping staff kept forgetting to leave shampoo, soap etc.

Readily available customer service, but great for business class traveller. Adequate for small time traveller on budget who wants luxury. Their buffet was great but not as consistent as I has few months ago. broken remotes and fridge with no cold water. Not good enough for premier hotel in Port Moresby.

Room Tip: Do not ask for tower rooms they are not as spacious.

Not the best hotel I have sayed at, $360 AUD per niight is very steep for essentially a 3 star hotel. Mould in the bathroom, airconditioning struggled and the fridge was turned off when I arrived. Staff were great although room service dinner took 50 mins to be delivered....

Room Tip: Ask for pool view rooms as these may be better than harbour view which looks onto a new tower being...

There is nothing exceptional in this hotel other than being overpriced. Breakfast was extra cost. Rooms are clean and comfortable bed.

In a country such as Papua New Guinea one should expect to see mosquitoes but not swarms in the lobby. The staff did recognise my PC club status but the only benefit was seriously slow internet and a free drinks voucher. The hotel itself is rather dated but a new holiday inn is being built next door so this should offer nicer surroundings for the future. The rooms are nice, large and clean although the bathroom was grubby. Security is good and the hotel seems safe although it did seem at the time that locals are living in some rooms permanently, the kids school clothes drying on the balcony were a give away. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. The food is of a good standard and room service is fast.

For a night out with good food and great bar visit the Royal Yacht Club.

All in all if I were to visit again I would look at another hotel but would consider the new holiday inn once built.

Room Tip: Avoid the apartments, get a high room in the block

OK, sorry. Truth is, they put us up here whenever we go to POM and we get no choice at all. It is tolerable, but I am damn glad I don't have to pay for it as it is very overpriced. My tip would be to get a transfer vehicle of some kind to the Airways Hotel and eat there. (It is equally overpriced but the pool and the food are both much better.)

The Holiday Inn is next to a construction suite, and there is very little to do on the grounds for the kids, and the whole thing had the sense of being in prison, but I guess that is the fault of POM rather than the hotel.

As in other PNG hotels I have found that if you want connecting rooms you really have to explain this in considerable detail otherwise you will get rooms on two different floors, and when you say you wanted connecting rooms, they nod and smile as though you already have them. The actual apartments are always booked out.

On arrival the foyer is quite cavernous with a lot of people wandering around. But check in was friendly and efficient. The inital impression of the room was good until you looked into the bathroom which was tired and mouldy. The pool bar while inviting from a distance was alive with flies and including myself everybody was covering their glasses.
I kept on bumping into repair men in the lift so a lot of things seemed to be requiring maintenance. Bins beside the lift on my floor were overflowing and not emptied while I was there.
I had three meals at the Hotel and while at first I thought the restaurant was pretty ordinary the food was excellent on all occassions.
WIFI is only practicable in the business lounge - Cards are available but the cheapest on offer was K150.
The price is in line with what you expect in Pt Moresby as many resource companies competing for rooms have forced up prices dramatically.
