Holiday Inn Port Moresby
Ranked #9 of 15 Hotels in Port Moresby

Since hotel was full when I checked in, I was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment. A nice surprise as it included a separate small kitchen, dinning area and living room. Internet cable and TV was only available in 1 (out of 2) bedroom.

While the rooms shows signs of aging, it functions well and is clean and large. No bathtub in the bathrooms but this is not an issue for me.
Hotel also provides washing machines in the common area but you would need to bring your own detergent.

Breakfast menu was the same for 4 straight mornings so this would be my biggest complain.

Another letdown was the internet connection. Anyone who wanted to use the internet here had to buy a prepaid card from the convenience stall located at the hotel lobby. However the connection was down for 2 nights when I was there. Though this is not the hotel's fault, it was frustrating since there is not much to do outside of the hotel after dark.

The hotel is undergoing some renovations and hence the condition of the elevators are not the best. The noise started after 9am.There is also a new section of the hotel being built but this facility would probably not be ready for at least another year judging from what I see on the outside.

Overall, it is still a decent choice in Port Moresby and having seen the location of Crowne Plaza/Grand Papua and Ela Beach, I think Holiday Inn is in a better location when it comes to security. About 15-20 minutes drive to the airport and 5 minutes away from the only noteworthy shopping centre in town, i.e. Vision City. Would have no problems staying here again.

P.S. The hotel does provide free shuttle bus to the airport which leaves once every hour.

Its a Holiday Inn, so you know what to expect. The staff are friendly & courteous, the rooms were perfectly fine and clean. The bathroom was a bit dated and in need of a refurb, but serviceable. But its pretty much the crappiest hotel you will ever pay $350USD a night for a room. Not their fault - that is the going rate in town at the moment, but still it just doesn't feel right.

Room Tip: I had a room overlooking the pool, which could be a bit noisy at times.

The place is big and comfortable and they offer a buffet from breakfast to dinner wherein you can choose a table overlooking the swimming pool. They have a small souvenir shop at the lobby which is awesome for the visitors and tourists. They have a gym where you can do your regular workout and physical fitness plus their zumba dance and aerobics too.

Have steyed he a number of times now and each time somethings has improved - unfortunately all too often somthing has also got worse. This time the locks of the rooms were not working but I had a television with more than one station so that was probably a win, but a roughly U$400 a night you would expect somethings to only get better.

Room Tip: Unless you have to be in Port Moresby for business or a very quick transit I wouldn't be staying...

I have stayed a few times at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby over a 20 year period. It has not changed much in that time. It is still a pleasant place to stay and the staff are friendly but it is showing signs of its age. As a general rule Port Moresby accommodation is the worst value for money in the world. The increase in options may change this. New wings for the hotel will provide much needed updates. In terms of the options available in Port Moresby it is not bad.

We liked our stay here at the Holiday Inn, POM. They've been working on renovations and have done a good job. Part of the downside though is the renovations are going on. The staff were helpful and friendly, going out of their way to help us.The rooms were nice. You have to specify that you want a non-smoking room though if that is your preference, not like many hotels now that are totally non-smoking. The first floor is actually specificied for non-smokers, but not all like being on the first floor. Everything worked in the room. It could've been a bit cleaner. It is way more than I'd like to pay, but that's the way it is in Port Moresby, way way over-priced.

On arrival, the hotel looks Ok, but once you enter things go down hill from there. the lobby is kind of bare, its not warm and inviting. then the staff uniforms are worn out, very worn out. going up the stairs to rooms, the carpet is very dirty. i thought maybe it was becasue we had arrived in the morning (10am) but during the stay the carpet remained looking filthy. The food in the restaurant was bland, with very little variety. and then the hotel has this habit of calling you to remind you about your bill, and to remind you when you are checking out. i found this very unprofessional. also it is terribly expensive for the cost. i paid US$316, per night, and this did not include breakfast.

The rooms were however good, the bad very comfortable, although the house keeping staff kept forgetting to leave shampoo, soap etc.
