Holiday Inn Port Moresby
Ranked #8 of 15 Hotels in Port Moresby
Reviewed 12 April 2009

This Holiday Inn could use some renovating, but is a secure, comfortable place to stay while in Port Moresby. I was there for 2-3 weeks, and found the staff extremely friendly and helpful, the food very good especially with the new chef that took over during my visit (although it would be nice if they mixed it up a bit, made the b'fast buffet more varied, and added some daily specials), the room large and comfortable (with plenty of space, working AC, a small fridge, coffee/tea kettle), the grounds big and nice for walking/jogging, and the gym decent though very dirty and with old decrepit exercise equipment. The wireless worked most of the time (although not usually in my room), especially (where the signal is strongest) in the very useful "VIP room" off the restaurant, which is a good place to work and be on line while also having food and/or drinks. One of the nicest features, I found, is the 650-meter path that runs around the perimeter of the hotel (inside the fence), which is a secure place to walk or run outside (a very nice change from always being in the gym). With POM's beautiful weather, it was great to have the chance to be safely outside! I will be back at this hotel. Elsie and Mary in the restaurant were always so nice, knew our names, and were very helpful! A couple of things the hotel might improve: upgrade the tower rooms a bit and brighten them up, make wireless available in all the rooms (was very spotty in my room), add some variety to the daily continental b'fast buffet, clean up the gym and add some new equipment, and put some comfortable chairs/cushions near the pool so that people can enjoy this space. Also consider a "family wing" for those busy family weekend specials, when so many families with kids move in and make a LOT of noise in the garden wing of the hotel. Consider putting these big, loud families in one part of the hotel.

I got to go to PNG on work and had a college stay at the Crowne Plaza; we ended up spending most of our time at my hotel as it had better facilities and more space

We will be staying at the holiday inn again in October well worth it even if it’s just for the security

I stayed in a tower suite. The room was average at best. The bar and pool were OK, but the hotel is run down. The guest laundry was filthy. There were mosquitoes in the laundry. The bar staff were rude. They kept running out of Internet access cards. Security is good and the cleaning staff were friendly enough, although unreliable in terms of regularity on a daily baisis. The hotel is over priced. One weekend they left used mattresses in the hallway. Room service food scraps were often still in the elevator lobby until the next day at lunch time, which can be a little on the nose. For the price, they should lift their game. I do not know how they can claim a 4 star rating. They would get 3 from me at best.

Here is the worst thing of all. I wrote a complaint and their website claimed that I would be contacted within 7 - 10 days. 21 days later and no response. I guess they really don't care.

This hotel has seen better days.

The staff were fine, but fittings could do with renovation.

The whole place (hotel and Port Moresby itself) has the look of decay about it. Not the best Holiday Inn worldwide!

I was staying at the Holiday Inn for a couple of weeks and found that the staff were mostly friendly and helpful, especially in the Business Centre. But I found that to access the internet costs Kina1.00 per minute which is too expensive as the connection is very bad and I wasn't even able to reply a mail in 6 minutes.

Nice to know Trudy (Accounts) who was so helpful in assisting me how to get a better bargain on arts and handicrafts.

Central location in POM between the Airport and the CBD. Good Security, friendly staff. The entire place is a bit tired and could use some overhaul. The rooms int he tower are better than the flats. The resturant is the worst of all hotels in POM.

I stayed her for 2 nights in June 2006. The rooms are quite large and comfortable, the only thing lacking is a safe in the room for paranoids like myself. Beds are quite small. Bathrooms are big and there are some good shampoos/bath gels, although the tub is uncomfortable.

This hotel has (quite expensive) shops, an okay restaurant, business centre and a nice pool. Internet access is possible with very expensive and slow dial-up, wifi is not available.

Electricity failed a couple of times during my stay, so watch the alarm clock if you need it! I'd say that was coincidence though. The hotel IS very safe and comfortable overall! Staff throughout the hotel was very friendly and efficient.

It did give me a bit of an outdated impression though, as if the glory days are over. But perhaps some people like the slightly nostalgic look and feel.

In summary, if you want a well-known brand and like Holiday Inn for your stay here, don't hesitate, it's a good hotel. But it's not as good as some other Holiday Inns I've seen around the world.
