Owner description: The blend of old and new is strikingly exemplified in the Parliament House, which combines modern architecture with ancient design.

The signs re dress standards at the front security gate might put you off but appear to relate to if you want to meet a minister (we all entered with t-shirts, thongs and shorts). The breeze is great on a hot day, the display of butterfly's, moths and stick insects was a surprise and tour of the chamber very well done (take your hat off and no photos - local guides roam the gardens and gently push you in the right direction and there is no charge).

The Parliament house is unique and beautiful, you will not say that about any other buildings in Port Moresby!
The guides are informal but knowledgeable and if you know a little of the PNG history it will help you appreciate the visit. Surprisingly you may be most impressed by the collection of insects (dead sadly) and the huge "totem" pole just inside, which really take you away from the external decoration which has to be described as brilliant and fascinating, and really PNG, so to be fair is the huge "pole" inside, and some of the Kundu drums etc. that you can see inside.
The chamber is very impressive and when you see the facilities for visitors and observers, and then read up some of the debates you really do begin to understand circus!
Beware the time of day you travel here, and remember when you leave you do not stop for any groups of men who try to flag you down, but that is true all over Port Moresby!

Built in the style of a Maprik Haus Tambaran (house of spirits), this impressive building was opened in 1984. Parliament House is an interesting place whether parliament is on or not. The lake is simply beautiful.

The building and the surrounding are beautiful. The architecture is based on Spirit Houses found near Wewak.

We only saw the building from the outside but were impressed by the building and grounds. As it was very hot and there were not much shade about we did not stay long. A quick pic and off we went.
