“A stroll around the markets”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

We visited the Noumea morning markets when we were on a cruise on the Celebrity Solstice visiting Noumea recently. As our ship was there on a Sunday, the markets were just about the only thing that was open for tourists to view. Fresh produce is available and seafood, plus various touristy items, souvenirs, clothing, jewellery etc. for sale. It was worth a look but nothing much to get excited about.

“Definitely for the tourist $$$”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014 via mobile

We had a short time to visit while our cruise was in port, a trip to the local market is usually on our 'to do' list.

This market is nothing like I've experienced in the many other countries I've visited. It is definitely geared for the tourists with a lot of very average and overpriced souvenirs.

If this isn't what you're after, I suggest that you give it a miss.

“Good food market”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

Not really what I expected, found most of the fresh food a little expensive and the souvenirs very over priced.

Grabbed a few pastries but didn't really hang around very long. I would not put this on the "have to" do list, if your in the area and it's on then head over and have a look.

“We found it interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

We visited around 9.30am on a Friday morning and found a great selection of fruit, vegetables and seafood on offer together with some souvenir stalls.

We found it very interesting and spent around 1 hour there also buying some local fruit and veges.

Lovely outlook next to the Marina.

“Worth a visit .... just”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

The Noumea Municipal Markets were a disappointment to me ... I agree with many of the comments of other reviewers .....
- a beautiful outlook at the marina (probably better than the markets!)
- a good range of fruit and vegetables though nothing particularly cheap (as another reviewer suggested if self catering worth visiting)
- numerous pastries available at multiple stalls
- extensive seafood market
- non food items are mainly at a trinket level - bracelets and necklaces in abundance!

Is it worth visiting for a look? Probably though there was nothing particularly unique about the markets

Markets start to close at around 11.00am.

Mostly ground level so can access with a wheelchair or stroller though can be crowded.
