“French chic meets South Pacific ambience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

Anse Vata is both a beach and a destination, and oh-so-French, down to the locals playing a game of boules in the afternoons. It has a long, curving mainly-sandy beach, with pontoons that you can swim out to or laze on, beachside cafes and restaurants, a lot of good quality shops and a seriously high-class Le Meridien hotel. If you're feeling lucky, the Casino is just around the corner from the beach and before you get to the hotel proper. Best of all, the drive from the centre of Noumea (specifically, the Place des Cocotiers, where the Information Centre is) wil take you by three outstanding bays (de la Moselle, de L'Orphelinat and des Citrons) packed with sleek yachts and other water craft and a wide variety of restaurants proclaiming their French heritage and cuisine. It's by far the best value, better even than the ship-organised "Chou-Chou" train tour, although the latter does take you up to the Cross of Lorraine and its commanding vista of the capital.

“Windsurfers galore!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

The water is calm, clear and great for swimming. The road is quite close to the sand and shore and it is a fairly busy road but that is the only downside. There are plenty of windsurfers at the beach but lots of swimming space close to the shore.

“Nice Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2014

Has a nice aspect, a little rocky underfoot, close to the inshore reefs for snorkeling. Shady trees line the grass area and handy to the various restaurants and shops across the road.

“Plenty to see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014

The walk along the beach is lovely there are men of all ages playing boules and generally having a get together. Nice and clean and not noisy - we felt very comfortable with leaving our towels etc and going in for a swim or a snorkel. Was a little surprised to see so many women sunbaking topless!
