This hotel is not a five-star but closer to a four-star hotel.
The bedroom was standard if a bit dated. However the bathrooms were rather superior with soaking tubs and separate showers and lots of room. The loo was in a separate room, French-style. The wall between the bedroom and bathroom was see-through glass so warning if you are travelling with someone and want privacy, this hotel is not a good choice. There were many French TV stations available and a couple of other languages including one or two in English.
Pool and beach
The pool is very basic - there is no infinity optics or way to get in gradually. The pool is small for the size of the hotel. I would have preferred a shallow end so I could walk into the water gradually.
The beach is very shallow with sand. I'd be warned there are black and white striped water snakes in the bay on which the hotel is located, so I didn't spend much time in the sea. It was a warm 28 C so easy to enter. There were some boats nearby and kite surfers, which made me wonder if swimmers and boats or gasoline ever collide here.
There was no little shop where one could buy an ice cream or drinks. The pool bar was very expensive and the service was poor. I ordered a drink only to have it forgotten. I gave the bar 30 minutes before I went to re-order and when I spoke to them, no-one took responsibility for the order and I was asked to wait until another member of staff returned. A true five-star hotel would have waiters come by for your order. These pool bar staffers seemed immature and not service oriented. They were pretty hopeless.
Another of example of that was that the pool area started closing down quite early. I was asked to vacate my lounge chair so they could take the cushion to store it for the night before six p.m. Also, the pool was very busy on the weekend and some people had reserved lounge chairs and never turned up all day. It leaves a poor impression when you want a lounge chair and there aren't enough.
Internet was provided in the lobby of the hotel but there was no printer. Wifi didn't work on my android tablet in the room.
Breakfast was included and was a sumptuous buffet consisting of Western and Asian breakfast choices. There were many Asians staying here. Smoked salmon, omelettes made to order and many fresh juices were on offer. The French pastries were excellent. The lovely breakfast was the best thing this hotel offered.
The restaurant was expensive for dinner so I didn't eat here. There is a Chinese restaurant on the same block to the left of the casino. It was full when I went but offers some less expensive meal choices. There is also the casino next door for those looking for something to do. Otherwise the hotel is a bit isolated. Apparently, a city bus stops on the same street and does downtown. I didn't try it.
While I had a good stay here, I met a traveller who had been locked into her room at this hotel and couldn't get out. When she called the front desk, no-one answered her call the first time. She wondered if there had been a fire what would have happened as it took far too long to be rescued.
Overall, nice hotel, too bad it wasn't closer to other places in town.
