“"The" Place to Stay in Niue”

Not fond of hotels? First time in Niue? This was the case for me, and I couldn't have picked better. The place is beautifully decorated, has a proper and very well-maintained kitchen with clean and new cutlery, china and cookware, a proper full-sized fridge and--oh joy--a proper washing machine and dryer! Also, there's a great shower, nice TV (which I didn't even turn on), fans and mosquito screens on all the doors and windows. There is a nice large couch (could easily be slept in) and proper 4-person wooden table, and even a wireless phone with a private line and local number (though calling Niue is sometimes not possible from certain countries). Albert was very welcoming, available and friendly, and also brought me fresh coconuts and papaya, and offered me clean towels regularly. A great, great bonus: the automatic rental car, in great shape, that I didn't have to rent myself because Albert had it ready for me! I just parked it at the airport parking lot on the last day! Only drawbacks: I could hear cars driving on the road very close by, as I was on the first cottage closest to the road. Fortunately Alofi isn't really a "city", and the traffic is pretty light and dies down later at night. Also, internet (in all of Niue, I'm afraid) is patchy at best, and very limited in bandwidth, so--no streaming, uploading or skype. Pretty much email only. Be prepared wherever you stay: this is a remote, remote corner of the Earth (and really, with all there is to see/experience there, that's a good thing).

Just spent a week at the lovely Stone Villa’s, and yes it is true what everyone says. What a wonderful place, the accommodation is fantastic. On arrival I was meet by Albert and his son, who then drove me back to Stone Villa’s via town for a tour and to explain where everything was located. Once at the Villa the car keys were handed over and a lovely bottle of wine was presented. Every day the towels were replaced and the bed was made. The Villa’s are located within walking distance of town and restaurants which is a bonus so you can stock up with grocery’s if need be or eat out every night. I actually went to Niue to do some fishing, but ran out of time as there is so much snorkeling and other things to do. As most people say, 1 week is not enough. Another bonus was beer was half the price of some Auckland bars and one didn't want to get dehydrated, say no more. If you are looking for a relaxing place for a holiday away from those crowded overpriced resorts then Niue is the place to go. The locals are extremely friendly and nothing is a problem. It was so nice and relaxing I am aiming to make it in to an annual trip. One thing to note, you definitely need a car to get around to all the snorkeling pools and sea tracks, but at Stone Villa’s it is included. When you leave to come home, just drive to the airport via the gas station, ($35 for the week) and leave the car there.

An amazing stay with Albert and his family. The villas were luxurious, clean, and cool. Having the car ready and fueled up made life very easy. A stay of 1 week is not enough however. Albert would show us a bit about the island life and help and advise on local foods and customs. Would definitely come back but for longer next time.

“Location, Location, Location”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

You can stop looking for your Niue accommodation now, this is the perfect place to stay in Niue. It doesn't have a pool....yet (construction underway shortly) but the accommodation comes with a car and you need a car to explore this beautiful island.

The location is great walking distance to town but far enough away to be private. There are also 3 swimming spots in town.

There are two villas on site which are modern, spacious and airy and are built with a low environmental footprint in mind. The walls are constructed from a material that Niue has in abundance – natural limestone. This is a very pleasant place to stay and the proprietors are brilliant

The Villas is a good size and comprises a separate living room, kitchen and dining and bedroom. The bedroom opens off the living room and can be closed off or opened up with several bi-folding doors. When these bi-fold doors are fully open there is a lovely open plan feeling of substantial space in the villa. Both the bedroom and the lounge open separately on to a nice wide veranda which runs the width of the villa and this is a great spot to relax.

The kitchen has a fridge/freezer and an oven with a single burner cook-top and a microwave oven so cooking a large family-size roast could be a bit of an issue, but the cooking and food storage facilities are quite adequate and the town shops are so handy that you don’t really need to keep a huge food stock. There is also a washing machine and dryer.

“Friendly hosts from start of holiday till the end.”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed here to celebrate our daughters 30th birthday. From the moment we met Albert at the airport till we said goodbye to Ida on our last day, our hosts were friendly and available had we wanted anything. Our daughter slept on a large couch in the living area, Albert did offer a foldaway type bed, which in hindsight we should have accepted as our daughter did say near the end of our stay she probably wouldn`t go for the couch option if we return. Maybe a week was just too long for her on a couch as she is of course used to a queen sized bed. No matter, it didnt spoil our wonderful time at Stone Villas at all. We were surprised at the generosity of the welcome pack. A full variety pack of cereals, 1 litre of milk, full sized bag of coffee and box of tea not forgetting a welcome bottle of wine!! Albert and Ida know how to show hospitality. The villa was just lovely, very clean and fairly private as there are only 2 villas there, great if you want some peace. Well appointed with a benchtop oven with elements on top, full sized fridge freezer which was fantastic for selfcatering and even a washing machine and drier. It is very centrally located to the town, easily walkable, weather permitting. If return to the beautiful Niue we would certainly look at staying there again. Thank you Ida and Albert.

“A Quiet Paradise”

We have just returned from 10 perfect days in beautiful Niue. Heartbroken to leave, and already planning to return.

Stone Villas was the perfect place for our holiday. Walking distance to the shops and majority of eateries, but also comes with a nifty little car for the duration of your stay. A car or at least a bike really is a necessity in Niue if you want to see all that the island has to offer. The island is small, but there is no public transport. TIP: Bring a torch for walking along the roads in the evenings - it gets VERY dark, there are few streetlights and sometimes you will be walking on the road as there are no footpaths outside of the main commercial hub of Alofi.

We stayed in the back Villa, number 2. It is the perfect size for a couple, with a super-comfy bed and couch - bring some DVDs as after dinner there is not much night-life during the week in Niue! The huge open plan shower with hand-held shower hose is perfect for washing off diving or snorkeling gear, and having a washer and dryer was fantastic as well. The kitchen is well-appointed, with a full-size fridge with freezer and an electric BBQ on the porch. There was complimentary coffee, tea, sugar and milk as well as a nice bottle of wine when we arrived. The only suggested improvement I could offer would be to maybe add a couple of full-size drink glasses to the cupboard- currently there are only small tumblers and wine glasses, and on hot afternoons, a long drink would have been nice.

There is a lovely wooden deck, perfect for to sit on in the evening, enjoying a glass of wine and listening to the sea. Or the geckos! One thing you will NOT have to listen to is Niue's infamous roosters. Every other tourist we spoke to staying elsewhere reported early morning wake-ups, sometimes every hour from 3 am! Not at Stone Villas - any roosters that move in are relocated to Albert's father's house in another village, making for a peaceful sleep-in if you want it.

The villa has lovely wooden tropical louvres on all windows; the wind can turn cool in the evening, and closing the louvres is very effective at helping the thick stone walls keep the temperature from dropping. The windows are also fully netted to keep the bugs out.

The villa is serviced daily, except on Sundays and is always spotlessly clean and fresh. There is complimentary wi-fi for guests to access, however be aware that the connection is limited and slow, so really try to only use it if you absolutely have to. This is the case all over Niue however - including in the Internet cafe! Niue is the perfect place to switch off from the world. Slow down, catch your breath - I managed to last 10 days without internet or cell-phone - see if you can beat my record!

Ida and Albert (as well as their lovely son Jovan) were fantastic hosts, offering the kind of warm, genuine welcome that we came to recognise all over Niue. Those welcomes are a large part of the the reason I was so sad to leave, and the reason why I am so eager to go back.

“Delightful and friendly”
Reviewed 15 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My husband and I stayed here for a week. Our hosts were so helpful, even greeting us with a coconut on arrival at the villas. There was food in the fridge and a bottle of our local wine to start the holiday off. The car was just the right size for the roads around Niue - screens on windows and doors kept out the nasties (except the millipedes - though we managed to live with them). I thoroughly recommend Stone Villas for a relaxing holiday - close to town - only downside was the noise of traffic for half an hour in the mornings going up the hill to the local schools. Thank you Ida and Albert.

Thank you for booking with Stone Villas and more importantly visiting my beautiful island home ...Niue. It was a pleasure hosting you. Not only is the weather changing but also the ecosystem and everything that comes along with this change...climate change I think. Nature working at its fullest.
Again, thanks for visiting Niue.
