“Eratap Resort - just do it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2011

I have just returned from a week at Eratap with my wife and 3 and half year old daughter. We were delighted with the resort and had a fantastic holiday. The accommodation was 5 star as were the facilities and the staff. I wasn't fussed about the food (basic cafe food - eg chicken, steak or fish) but that was a very very minor point.
Overall I would say if you are considering a holiday in Vanuatu then definitely go to Eratap. There are a lot of middle of the road resorts in Vanuatu so if you want to avoid the dodgy ones do yourself a favour and go straight to Eratap.
My daughter also had a wow of a time. We stayed in 4 resorts in our time in Vanuatu and Eratap was easily her favourite. Baby turtles, canoe rides and the huge swimming pool were her faves.

Where to start and what to say that everyone else hasn't already said? This place was by far the most amazing place we stayed during our Vanuatu holiday. We only stayed here for three nights for a short honeymoon and definitely wished we didn't have to leave.

We had Villa 11, which was spacious and well set up with its own private plunge pool, gazebo and beach. Honestly this Villa was a gem and it is hard to explain how amazing this place is. It really makes you feel like you are secluded from the rest of the world.

The staff were the friendliest we had come across on our entire holiday. The owners were just wonderful. Tony personally welcomed us with drinks then took us for a walk around the resort explaining everything there is to do and see while we were there. He then took us to our villa and gave us a walk through. Nothing is too much trouble and they really make you feel like you are the only guests they have. I organised a private meal setting at our villa for my husband’s 30th and we were blown away at how incredible it all was.

The food was excellent with lots of choices and the restaurant had absolutely spectacular views. When they say gourmet breakfast it really is a gourmet breakfast, out of all the places we stayed Eratap had the best.

There are plenty of daily activities included in your stay if you wish to partake in them, or you can just laze about your private sun beds. There are uninhabited islands right across from the resort which are a lot of fun if you want to do a bit of exploring or have a picnic lunch. You can get to them either by kayak or the resort boat will drop you off and pick you up at your requested times. There is also a spa at the resort with a number of massages and treatments that are reasonably priced.

Eratap is definitely A class and a must stay when you visit Vanuatu. All credit for this amazing piece of paradise goes to the hard work and vision of Tony, Louisa and their wonderful staff. We cannot recommend this resort highly enough and we look forward to going back. Thank you for making our stay so memorable.

Room Tip: Make sure you book well in advance if you want Villa 11 as it is booked for over 90% of the year, bu...

We spent 5 nights at Eratap in mid-September. The owners, Tony and Louisa, are both very friendly and introduced themselves at the beginning of our stay, with Tony seeing us off at departure. Our villa was a large 2 bed, which was nicely furnished and faced onto the lagoon (whilst appearing very private, with fencing along the side of each villa, it was a little surprising to have other guests wander past from time to time - could be a little embarrasing given the full length windows to bedrooms! we might suggest that the resort advise guests that the area in front of villas is private). The week we were there was confirmed as kid-free by Eratap's reservation staff, but the resort does accommodate families.

Eratap's waiting staff are all very well trained and friendly, with the waitresses getting our orders correct and accommodating preferences. Menus are varied, with daily specials, and the food is all very nicely and skilfully prepared with fresh local ingredients.

The activities staff are local guys with good knowledge of the area and waters surrounding the resort. It was nice to have boat trips to snorkel at local reefs or picnic on a deserted island included without extra charge.

The weather (out of Eratap's control of course!) was pretty mixed during the week we were in Vanuatu, which surprised us given that it's meant to be dry season. Worth bearing in mind before you go to Vanuatu, if you expect days of glorious sunshine. However, the resort was such a pleasant place to be, this really didn't impact our enjoyment of our holiday.

I almost don't want to write a review because I want this place to remain a secret! But I guess the secret's out, so...

Up until this year we've been travelling to Fiji and enjoying one of the small island resorts there. This year we ended up booking at short notice and both the places we wanted in Fiji couldn't fit our dates, so we spent a morning on Google and Tripadvisor and found Eratap. I don't think we will ever go back to Fiji.

The resort itself is... well... I hate to say it, but so close to perfect that we were just grinning in smug satisfaction the whole time we were there. The villas are beautiful, the beach stunning, the pool area peaceful, the service simply superb. Pascalle, the manager, was so lovely and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

The food was really good - not the fine dining of some of the other places we've been, but with only 12 villas I guess the economies of scale aren't there. Having said that, we both thoroughly enjoyed every single meal. The trick with a small place like this, I think, is to make the most of the daily specials, and they were excellent.

It *is* small. There is only one restaurant, there isn't a sunset bar at the other end of the beach, it doesn't have some of the things that you might get elsewhere. To us that didn't matter, but I know to some people it will.

We couldn't help but compare it with our previous favourite in Fiji, and we decided Eratap wins because it's easier to get to, there's MUCH more to do around Efate than on a small island in the Yasawas, and it was simply better value. The only negatives were that you do need to wear reef shoes when swimming due to coral among the sand and the beach isn't dead calm, you have to walk out through waves to snorkel (although, having said that, they will take you to any of the surrounding islands for snorkeling and that is probably better. We didn't try that, but will next time.)

Another couple on the shuttle on the way there from the airport said they were staying 10 days, we were only there for 5. I thought "Whoa, 10 days will wear thin..." No, it wouldn't. You can leave Eratap and enjoy the rest what the island has to offer for some variety, and then in the evening come home to something that is truly world class - in that lovely South Pacific Island way!

We got home last night and are already planning our next visit. Perhaps that's all I should have written...

Room Tip: Villa 11 or 12 if you like seclusion, any of the others if you just love the beach.

- Great accomodation , where you can laze about be pampered and enjoy the Beach surrounds.,without even bumping into your neighbours.
- Definately plan the deserted island beach picnic
- Whilst Port Villa has an array of restaurants to consider the food quality and choice is excellent at Eratap , no need to go anywhere.
- Fishing is good and if your keen , bring your own Gear .
- The village staff are warm , excellent and a pleasure to have as part of the experience.

We spent a wonderful week at Eratap. Our villa was enormous and gloriously situated with full lagoon views from sitting room and bedroom..The high , thatched ceilings were truly a work of art.
It was great to talk with Tony about the history and development of the resort and it is a credit to him, Louisa and the local village of Eratap.
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the resort and the staff were fantastic and so friendly and helpful.
We thought the food was OK but a challenge for the gluten free diet- we picked the week the chef was away! Everybody did their best to meet the special diet needs. The food was fairly expensive but a good choice was available at every meal.
Would recommend a visit to Eratap Village and school.

Room Tip: Villa 10 was 2 bedroom/bathroom and huge. Try to get it!

It's all been said before, but we'll say it again - what an amazing resort! Beautiful location, lovely villas that are comfortable and luxurious, fantastic staff and amazing food!

We stayed in the Honeymoon Villa 12 for 6 days as part of our honeymoon and couldn't have felt more pampered and well-looked after. The villa is amazing - beautifully fitted out and the bathroom was just great, especially the outdoor shower option for when you've just been for a swim in the sea. This villa has it's own private gardens with an outdoor pavilion with large circular daybed and outdoor table and chairs. We often ordered room-service lunch to this area and enjoyed lunching in our own private garden setting overlooking the lagoon. The private plunge pool is small but lovely for a refreshing morning dip. Little touches like beach towels and snorkelling gear are also nice.

The staff really make this resort special. They are so friendly and helpful. The food here is also amazing, we really enjoyed the breakfast selection and the fresh fish for dinner. Vanuatu beef is also amazing, make sure you try it when you're there! We also drank far too many Pina Coladas by the beautiful pool!

Can't wait to return.
