I have felt compelled to write my second review!
Being winter in Australia we decided on another little break. This time we decided on Vanuatu. We spent 7 nights at Eratap and it was wonderful.
Vanuatu is quite a primitive country with unpaved roads, minimal street lighting, no designated tourist areas etc but none of that is needed and everything just seems to chug along at island speed. The locals are extremely friendly too and it seems little is hidden or maintained to impress the tourists. Out of your resort and into their life.
Eratap has 12 well maintained villas situated on a stunning beach. It is however about 30 mins drive to the town. But there is not much in town. For a short break this resort is outstanding. Lovely beach, lovely staff, lovely restaurant where the food is actually very good. They also have 2 different specials every lunch time and evening. They also provide some entertainment at about 6( along with happy hour) we went up twice that early for dinner to see local tribal dancing and a fire show. It was worth watching. Other nights we went up later at our choice. Dinner til about 10. Breakfast is served from 6am-11am.. So whenever suits you.
The snorkelling is excellent and the array of creatures that can be seen walking in the shallows also very impressive.. Starfish, crabs, sea slugs etc etc. A nice afternoon stroll that's for sure.
Villas are equipped with a supremely comfortable bed, HD TV, inside and outside showers, loungers on the deck or your own loungers 10 yards further just on the beach. You also have a fridge..WITHOUT ALL THE USUAL HOTEL JUNK IN IT! You can fill it with drinks, chocolate etc if you go into town and grab a few things. For a weeks relaxing break ( and if it just wanting to relax that you want) I would recommend this place to anyone. The sand is white, the sea is crystal clear, food is good and the staff are friendly.
I could go on and on but when they opened Eratap they CLEARLY thought about it and have done it well. Complimentary games, DVDs, snorkelling gear, kayaks and even motorised water sports too. They also run a daily shuttle to port Vila. You get 2 1/2 hours there.. That is enough.
We also went out across the island for dinner , it was a Saturday night after all, and they arranged for us to be taken there and back by a local taxi.
I would definitely return and next time for longer but also want to explore the island next time now that I have had a taste.
This is the kind of Island that is mostly unspoilt like Fiji or Jamaica. I hope it stays that way whilst it evolves. Being only 4 hour flight from Sydney .. It's like having paradise on your doorstep.
Thank you to all the staff.

My wife and I just spent 12 amazing days at Eratap. Our expectations were very high as a result of the excellent reviews and the resort exceeded all of them.
The staff are absolutely wonderful (without exception); always with ear to ear smiles and a willingness to make your stay very special and this is one of the great assets of the resort.
We were in Villa 10 with plunge pool and cannot recommend it highly enough although we didn't require the 2nd bedroom. However the additional space this provided was quite useful. It is some 200/250m to the restaurant, but it was great to be able to wander back to the villa after dinner through the beautiful gardens.
We visited the local church on Sunday and the village on the organised visit and wow, what a fantastic experience....this was a "special" highlight for us.
The restaurant is 1st class (yet casual) with great food and a fabulous selection on the menu and two specials each evening and the chef and staff always obliging with any special requests.
This really is a Paradise and we thoroughly loved our time there and are hoping to return again next year for a little longer.

Gorgeous stay at Eratap resort. we stayed in Villa 11, and it was amazing! so relaxing, fantastic welcome. staff are all amazing and friendly. plenty to do at the resort. but you will find all you want to do is relax in your Namika (Beach Hut) We rented a car one day and drove around the island. just be careful for creditcard fraud - we had a bit of trouble, so use cash if you can. Make sure you visit the cascades (not on a cruiseship day!) was an amazing honeymoon. just check when the children weeks are, otherwise there is usually no children at the resort. There is a filtered water station at the resort so no need to purchase bottled water upon arrival. Cocktails are cheap and delicious. if you like your morning coffee, its hit and miss... but not to bad.

Room Tip: we stayed in Villa 11 honeymoon sweet. it is the best sweet as has views of the lagoon and ocean, and the best view of the sunset.

Once again travelling with the whole family we had never visited Vanuatu. We had read only great reviews of Eratap….and it lived up to all expectations. Disregard the comments about the drive from the airport to the hotel…takes a few minutes and quickly forgotten. The bungalows are the best we have seen and the configuration is simple but perfect. The rooms are spotless and the beds are perfect. The bungalows lead down to the water which kept the family snorkelling for most of the week. There is one restaurant that provides all meals - again the range and cooking is the very best. I could go on…but honestly this is a perfect property maintained to a very high standard. We are already booked to come back next year. Well done Eratap

My wife and I spent 5 days there in a 2 br Villa. beautiful spot right on Lagoon. grounds immaculate with staff out early each day picking up leaves. Staff all most friendly. Restaurant fine, Breckie included and evening meal always good . Entertainment with fire show singing etc and good they use local lads and girls who otherwise would not have a job.
Great pool .Hard to get out at night to town as Resort quite isolated with a very rough road into it.

However for over $A600 pn I would have expected better facilities in the Villa.
No sheer curtains ,only heavy night curtains so no privacy during the day.. A desk would be nice even though we didn't want to work ..The lighting in the room was impossibly dark and while it may be romantic it's always good to have a read in bed.I certainly don't expect fixed coat hangers in a resort at this cost.Towels were small and thin. Two glasses in the room was all we had and perhaps a bowl of fruit occasionaly would be a nice touch.
This is not to say we did not enjoy our stay as it was a lovely place and the little island trips were fun with the local guide. If they could fix the small things it would be perfect

Room Tip: All good we were in #6 some have own pool but tat's not essential
