“Simply - just Stunning!!!”
Reviewed 29 December 2009

We did the drive around the island for a few days and called in here for a coffee and swim one afternoon, and then back for breakfas the next morning. The facilities are just stunning. Absolute gorgeous design. I would stay here just for the decor' and view is amazing. Apparently adults only bungalows with wifi, cable, plung pool and a/c. I was told by Liz the owner it is $400pp/night including transfer and Breakfast / 2 course lunch / and 3 course dinner. The staff were friendly, and service timely as you expect from such a facility. If you were after pure luxury - I would stay here. The roads were fine in December so don't let that put you off going.

The food, the cocktails, the staff, the location, the snorkelling, the accommodation ... all picture perfect. For such a new resort it is certainly on the right track to being THE place to unwind in Vanuatu. Our advice for travellers wanting to submerge themselves in total peace and quiet is that you need to book now as once the word gets out about The Havannah, bookings will be very hard to come by. They are about to construct a tennis court, large swimming pool (even though the current 6 villas have their own plunge pool) and a few other facilities which will only enhance what is already there. All that is needed is a DVD library as TV viewing is a little limited.
We stayed for five days and could have easily stayed so much longer. Thanks to some of the outstanding staff, in particular the GM Yorick, Israel, Helen (the best cocktail maker in Vanuatu!!!) and Betty. Can't wait to visit again!

We booked our holiday over the internet and had very high expectations. We were looking forward to staying in a small boutique resort that only caters to adults, only to find a family of four staying there, we don't have anything against children but when its advertised as adults only, this is what you expect. We were told via email that we could go jet skiing and water skiing, all this was included in the room rate, only to find that when we arrived the jet ski was in for a service and would be back tomorrow. Tomorrow came & went and each day a different story. Water skiing was also not possible. The rooms are beautiful and the lay out is perfect. The plunge pool was wonderful on those hot afternoons. Our pool was not attended to on a daily basis and we had to ask for the filter to be turned on twice. The guest amenities were cheap and very basic for a tariff of $500 plus a night. Although the towels appeared to be cleaned on a daily basis, they were very stained. Stained linen in a property charging $500 plus a night. There was no turn down service, something you would expect on the tariff. The only thing this property has going for it is the staff, although they are not fast and efficient they are very friendly and polite. They were the best thing about our stay.

We ended up at the Havannah unexpectedly, because our other accommodation was so bad - and this was the perfect antidote!

The resort was only 5 weeks old, so there were a few teething problems, but Greg the owner/manager was overly helpful (allowed me to use his office internet, took us for an unexpected speedboat ride, etc).

The location here is AMAZING ... the reefs directly off the beach were stunning, the fish and coral beautiful and we saw a turtle (no dugongs unfortunately!) If my health had been a little better, we would've paddled over to the turtle sanctuary one day.

The food was delicious, fresh fruit and juices and seafood, quality restaurant food that you'd expect in an upmarket restaurant in Australia.

The staff were very friendly, and because there weren't many other people there, we got to spend lots of time chatting to the staff and getting to know them, as they waited on us or as we drank kava they prepared down on the beach with the fire at sunset.

The place is big enough to find your own space, or to chat to others when you'd like. And some funky fun things too, like a pontoon 20m into the water where you could swim then sunbake. Snorkel/masks hanging around for whenever you wanted them (though they needed another set or two).

The rooms were all new, with plunge pool (heating hadn't yet been installed but was coming!), a funky bathroom, king beds, aircon, tropical plants getting established in the garden outside.

Highly recommended, enjoy!

We stayed at this beautiful resort for our anniversary and it was wonderful. Admittedly, we were a little sceptical at first because it had only just opened and we hadnt heard a lot about it apart from a few trip advisor reviews and their website. But we were very very impressed!!! The resort only caters to 6 couples at a time and provides personalised service. You can make your stay there as busy or laid back as you like, with lots of activities included like jet skiing, sunset catamaraning, fishing, kyacking and you can even snorkel right off the beach of your private bure. If you're planning a romantic trip to vanuatu, this is definitely the place to stay! The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble ... although, with the laid-back island feel, expect the timing of the service to also be a little laid back at times. It was absolutely no problem for us, but may be an issue for the more impatient travellers among us.

The bures are idyllic and modern, with full water views and private plunge pool (the ipod doc was also a nice added extra). Each bure is within 10 metres of the water, where you can swim or snorkel.

It is also quite good value for money, esp considering that the equivalent resorts in fiji are charging around 50% more.

We don't regularly stay in 5 star accommodation. But we were in Vanuatu to celebrate our 20 year anniversary and I wanted somewhere special. Having been disappointed to find that the villas at Eratap were all booked, I wasn't sure what to do. Until, that is, I discovered The Havannah.

Any guilt that I felt about the price tag immediately melted away the minute I laid eyes on that wonderful panoramic view over the aqua waters of Havannah Harbour. The rooms were beautiful, the view absolutely stunning, the food was lovely, the snorkelling was great, the staff were lovely. And my husband was equally impressed - "You've chosen well" he kept saying on the afternoon of our arrival.

The resort is so small that it feels very private and intimate (almost too small?). The rooms are lovely, spacious, and the housemaids visit twice a day to clean and tidy up any of your mess (don't leave those dirty clothes lying around when you go out to dinner - you've been warned). Even the bath is positioned to take advantage of the view through a large slatted window. The only negative with the rooms is that there is no shade on the decks, so in the afternoons we had to retreat inside to the daybed/lounge area (from where you still get the gob-smacking view).

Dinner is a very romantic affair - choose from a table for two on the jetty, a table on the beach, or in the large breezy restaurant (my husband was particularly impressed with the traditional roof over the dining area). My favourite was the night we dined on the beach, wiggling our toes in the sand, watching the final flames of the bonfire die down, watching the stars above, all the while being waited on with wonderful food and wine from our friendly waiter Jonathon.

Being such a small resort, menu choices are fairly limited, but the quality was always good, and the food is one of the highlights or your stay. Lunch and Dinner are offered as set three course menus. We found the three course lunch offering a little strange, but you can choose just one course, or from a limited "snack menu" if you don't want the full deal. We had the three course dinners and enjoyed them all, but its definitely not the place to come if you are watching your spending.

The snorkelling out the front of our room was superb - the coral reef is very extensive and in very good condition with a huge variety of fish to be seen. We also made regular use of the kayaks. One day we booked the Coongoola cruise - Israel, the Havannah's boat man will take you out to meet the ship and pick you up again before it docks. It's a bit slow going on the boat, but the snorkelling stops were worth it, and the beach that you have lunch at is very nice.

We spent three nights at the Havannah, which was perfect for us. I'm not sure I would want to spend a week there, as the resort is very isolated, and there is not a lot to do other than eat, drink, swim and relax. It's only about 30 minutes from Port Vila, but I wouldn't want to be driving in and out every day, as the road is very steep and not in great condition (a road upgrade is currently happening). And you definitely wouldn't want to be travelling in for dinner.

The Havannah is great now, but it will be even better in a few years time when the gardens have become established. These will provide a bit more privacy between the villas once they grow up a bit. My only negative comments are mere quibbles - the plunge pools are not large (but they are deep), there is no shade on the deck, and dining is expensive (like everywhere else). That said it was probably the best food we had in our week in Vanuatu, and we made a point of thanking the kitchen staff before we left.

I'd recommend the Havannah for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or just spend some quiet time with their partner.

The Havannah is a gorgeous resort only 25km from Port Vila. Excellent service, fabulous food and wines in an amazing setting! The fares (villas) are spacious and beautifully designed. Each fare has its own plunge pool - or spa.

Dinner options include on the beach, on the jetty, in the restaurant, or room service. Dinner on the beach was fabulous!

One of the best aspects at the Havannah is the snorkelling - sensational!

Greg and the staff are only too happy to do whatever they can to make your stay at the Havannah the best it can be.

We can't wait to go back!!
