“Perfect getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2013

My husband and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at Breakas Beach Resort. We had Fare 7 perfect for us no problems with insects or noise. George and his staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived until our departure. Manti one of the staff members was the most delightful and helpful person you could hope to met. We found everyone to be happy and friendly and the service we received was faultless. Loved the open shower had no problems with our hotwater or anything in our room. The weather was not great so didn't get to enjoy the pool or have a swim out the front. There are signs warning of the dangerous conditions so be alert to water conditions before taking a swim. Felt quite safe in our bungalow just locked anything valuable in the office safe. Our meals were great, pay the same in Australia for food and drinks so be prepared. Transport into Port Vila is an experience not to be missed you must travel by the bus and met the locals we had a great time. Frita the tour organiser was lovely, our massages were so relaxing could possible do with a curtain down the centre for a little more privacy when you don't know the person next to you other than that we had a wonderful 5 day getaway thanks to all of the staff at Breaka's

Room Tip: If you like to be close to the restaurant etc choose fares 7 through to 12 on the beach

We stayed at 3 locations while visiting Vanuatu and Breakas was our first stop.
We had a beach front fare that was clean and had no issues with hot water. We loved that the shower was an outdoor shower and had no concerns about someone climbing over the shower wall to enter our fare like someone else commented on. I would be surprised that happens. While there was not a safe in the room the front desk had a safe that you could secure your belongings in and feel confident that everything would be there when you picked it up.

The service for lunch and dinners was not fantastic and you typically had to go refill your own water at dinner as attention to details was lacking. Continental breakfast states service begins at 7a but usually all the items were not out until 7:20 or later. This makes it challenging when you have a 7:45a pickup for an off resort activity. If the tea and coffee were available promptly at 7a I could wait on the food, but they should have it all available as they say, 7am.

We had several meals on the beach and were served after we let the bar staff know we were there. Most of the time the staff would serve us our drinks as well as our food but a couple times we had to go to the bar to get our own drinks. Not a big deal for us.

We found the bar food was excellent, specifically their pizza and fish and chips. The main dinners at night were expensive if you sat in the main eating area seperate from the bar area. I believe the main dinners were not a good value for the price. We often opted for going to the bar area and selecting items from this menu instead as it was a better value and the food was delicious.

Our rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels provided daily as well. Overall we had a very nice experience.

Room Tip: Beach front fare room 33 is great. Doesn't get all the wind that some of the beach front fares...

I loved the resort worth every cent. Found a great deal online including flight. The staff were amazingly friendly and showed a genuine interest!! (Shout out to Serena - she was so sweet and lovely). As soon as you walk in you see the breath taking view of the large swiming pool infront of the amazing beach front view. We got greeted with lays and drinks on arrival. We got the garden room which were cute little bugalos with a "semi-outdoor" shower. The only issue was sometimes in the mornings we'd get crabs sneak in the shower because it's outdoor (which was a little creepy) lol but quite unique and endearing.

We stayed there for 7 nights 8 days, when we were booking it was advised that it does rain alot when it's not summer. We went early february but I must say it rained a few times but the rain was NOT AN ISSUE AT ALL! When they say rain it literally rains for 10mins (light sprinkle) then it stops and the rest of the day is sunny and beautiful. I wish the resort was a little closer to the main town though coz alot of our spending money went to taking buses.

The locals are nice and friendly, but be weary when eating outside that local restaurant owners tried to rip us off our meal because they thought we were foreigners they charged us more for our meal that what was on the menu. We comlpained and were charged the right price.

Back to Breakkas: Our second last night we ate our first dinner at the resort with a romantic dining set up right on the beach with some lanterns and resort entertainment playing for us.
OH MY GOSH!! The food my sister and I order, WOOOOWEE, That was the single BEST meal I have had to date - there was just something about that sauce!! (See picture - doesn't look all that, but it tasted amazing).

Overall, great resort, lovely staff, amazing food and worth the money.

We arrived on the Saturday and got taken to our room.. all was okay.. but it is definitely not that 3 and 1/2 star resort that it claimed on the website. After dropping our luggage at our room, we then headed to the restaurant for dinner (we had made a reservation when we checked in), when we got there they advised they had no free tables available even though we had booked and advised us to wait in the bar until a table was free. After 10 – 15 minutes I was getting pretty annoyed and then they came up to us and said you either have the option of eating at the table by the poolside (it was pouring with rain) or sitting at a table of four with two strangers.. not ideal when it’s the first night of your honeymoon.. but we were hungry and had no other option unless we wanted to go hungry.. was not impressed!! We were feeling pretty gutted about not being able to have a nice dinner on our first night of our honeymoon and having to eat with some strangers at a plastic picnic table they had pulled out of a shed or from wherever (not romantic at all) and so decided we would go back to our room have a shower and wash away the day and start a fresh the next day… well we get to the room and we have no shower or hot water.. we turned it on and it dribbled out freezing cold water, by this time I was in absolute tears, this is not how it was meant to be. The next morning after breakfast I went to the reception and told them about the shower, they didn’t really seem to care but said they would tell George the manager… 2 days later the shower was still not fixed and so on the 3rd day I saw the manager walking around the resort and advised him once again and he said oh sorry I thought it was fixed and had crossed it off my list.. not sure who he had thought had fixed it and when? But eventually we got it fixed. There is no ceiling above the shower, I guess you could say it is an open air shower and when we were there we heard that locals jump over the wall to enter your room to steal things and so it made it all a bit scary to have shower on the last few nights and we had to make sure the bathroom door was locked whenever we left the room so no one could get into our room. Everything just put us in the wrong frame of mind and so couldn’t really relax or enjoy the holiday.. a few other things went wrong but they were little and so I won’t bore you with the details. When my parents picked us up from the airport they asked how it was and I burst into tears…. It just was not the honeymoon we had dreamed of at all… There we a few things on the website that didn’t ring true either.. like two restaurants to choose from, there is only one and on the one of two mornings it didn’t rain there was no waiters around the pool or down by the beach to take our orders, as I had also read on the website.. you had to go and get these yourself from the bar. The pool was definitely not an infinity pool, as you could see the edge of the pool. It was just all very disappointing. I have come back just has stressed and tense as when we left, which wasn’t the plan at all!!

We want to go back to Vanuatu and experience in a better light/its full glory but will DEFINITELY not stay at Breakas ever again!

This place is an absolute joke! It was a total nightmare "holiday".
We went to breakas for a much needed getaway. Looks beautiful in the pictures right? Our first impression was wow, and we were so excited for the week ahead. The food that first night was good too. It ended there. We were sick from then on. Every night the food was totally different (when we ordered the same dishes) and just got worse and worse every time, until after talking each other into giving the restaurant one more go for 2 hours, my partner was served off food! The poor waiter was super apologetic and explained that he is constantly having to tell the chefs to check everything they send out?! Needless to say no more restaurant.
Breakfast consisted of old fruit, cereal and stale pastries. Everything in this place is just so cheap and nasty! The staff are super sweet, but service is so slow, and if they put you on the beach to eat, your in a black hole and will be stuck there for ages.
The beach is soo hard to swim in, there is a sign advising not to swim in the ocean as its unpatrolled and strong currents - not what you want when on a luxury island holiday and it does not say that on the website- the destroyed reef (tragic) is sharp underfoot and you have to dodge the massive amounts of sea slugs. My partner even saw a coral snake in the ankle deep shallows (which was very cool, but scary). The snorkelling gear is unusable. Its a hundred years old, filthy and literally falling apart. When George was confronted about this by another guest, he was totally unconcerned and ran as fast as he could.
Our shower didn't work properly, that was when we had hot water at all. The kettle in our room leaked little bits of white plastic into the water, and the tea, coffee and sugar that is left in your room is cheap, hard and old.
We woke several mornings to rat poo on our very clean bure porch, despite being adopted by the breakas cat whilst we were there, and once on our bed!
And then to top it all off, we awoke early one morning to the most horrific sounds you can imagine... We woke to the sound of pigs being slaughtered somewhere nearby!
I could go on and on about how horrible this "resort" is and what a nightmare we endured.
Final tip; DON'T GO!!! Go somewhere else on the island, this place is not worth the broken rocks its built with.

Room Tip: Beachfront bures did have a nice view but again this place is a complete rip-off!!!!

I took my mother here for a little mum/daughter vacation for 8 days - was perfect for relaxing, reading a book, swim in the pool and a few cocktails. Was pretty quite when we went, had the pool/beach to ourselves most of the day time, with others guest off doing things I guess. And best part - the no kids rule! Weather was good, hot & humid, rained when we landed for a bit but otherwise fine the whole week (& this was rainy season). We ate at the resort most nights, good normal menu with different dinner specials and entertainment each night. Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Massages here were great. Only advice would be double check any bookings you make for tours/massages etc through reception - as a few times we booked something but it wasn't recorded, or was changed without telling us. Sand on beach is broken shells/coral and when tide goes out it is shellow/sharp coral rockpools for a long way out - pays to bring reef shoes if you want to go explore, or stick to the pool like we did. Island bus system is amazing, plenty around and go past every few mins, cost $150 VATU, a 5-10 min drive to town from Breakas, drivers are even open to offers to hire them for the day to take you around, or organise a time to pick you up etc. Must dos in Port Villa = waterfalls, horse ride on the beach (if that's your thing), tour with "Robert" to blue lagoon & Turtles. Warning - costs in town/markets go up 3x/4x when cruise ships are in!

Room Tip: We stayed in garden room 36, was a little damp (but it is so humid - hard to dry anything anyway) pl...

We had no idea about Vanuatu or the people who lived there before our recent holiday. Our stay at Breakas was a wonderful experience, thanks to the lovely staff. We had no particular expectations and nothing to measure the experience against except other stays in other countries. The staff at Breakas were always available to help, happy and friendly, and willing to share their stories if you asked. They made us feel like friends. We loved the fact there weren't any TVs or phones in the rooms, allowing us to relax. The food was very nice, in good quantities and well presented. Theme nights and entertainment were very enjoyable. If we have any complaints it is about the snorkelling equipment. We couldn't get any that stayed on or fitted properly. But that was a minor problem and overall I would say it was a great place to stay and I would recommend it for anyone who wanted to relax and be well treated

Room Tip: We had a garden view - very nice. The beach view rooms looked even better
