We stayed here for three weeks in August. Given our tight budget, we were looking for somewhere that was clean, close to town, and which allowed us to cater for ourselves.
For the first few nights of our stay, we were in one of the double rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen (2,200vt/approx $35NZ per night). While pretty basic, this was fine if you just want somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights. Bathrooms were not far from the room, and were all functioning and cleaned pretty regularly.
Because we were staying for a while, the manager upgraded us to more expensive accommodation - a three room 'apartment' with bathroom, bedroom (double bed) and living room. I would definitely recommend this option if you're planning on staying for any length of time. There was plenty of space and everything was clean and comfortable. We had the option of having our room serviced most days. In terms of sleep quality, staying anywhere in Port Vila is likely to be noisy. The Hibiscus wasn't too bad, but if you're looking to get a full 8 hour sleep each night, you'd probably prefer a resort (unless you're a very heavy sleeper).
The cooking facilities were fairly minimalist, but ok to make simple meals (e.g. pasta, steak). Don't expect a microwave or oven, but there is a gas stove top, and if you ask at reception the manager may well give you your own pots to use (as she did for us).
The motel is set over quite a large area, with a very nice garden where it was lovely to sit and enjoy a drink or have dinner. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It was about a fifteen minute walk along the harbour to the main market in Port Vila, and buses ran past the motel all the time.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Vila Hibiscus. It's a great spot for travellers on a budget - just don't expect any frills.
