FANTASTIC RESORT
We have recently returned after spending nine nights at the Holiday Inn Port Vila and I am pleased to report that this resort lives up to all the great reviews. From the moment you arrive at the resort the staff cannot do enough to help you, the resort is clean, modern delivers everything it promises.
We stayed in a King Lagoon view room which had great views of the lagoon, gardens and pool. The room was large enough for two adults as well as two port-a-cots. The balcony was on the small side but not small enough to relax with a few evening drinks (a mosquito coil will help keep the mozzies at bay)
Breakfast each morning was very relaxing with a great view of the lagoon and gardens. The resort chef’s are great and will make you anything you request. Food at the resort is on par with the town centre and kids eat for free which is a bonus
The main pool and lagoon area is fantastic, we travelled just after school holidays and we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves’. Food and drinks from the pool bar are great and prices are reasonable.
We found ourselves having such a good time in the pool that we ended up staying at the pool bar for dinner most nights however there are lots of places in town to eat. We ate at the Flaming Bull house which was a little pricey but we had one of the best steaks we have ever had. Also worth checking out The Brewery Bar & Restaurant, we wished we discovered this place earlier.
The kids club looked great although we didn’t use it much as the kids were just as happy in the pool
There are plenty of activities at the lagoon however we didn’t try any the staff are always happy to help.
The resort provides entertainment each night. The fire show held at the lagoon is a must, grab a drink and settle in for the evening, this is also a great time to meet the other guest.
The only small issue that other people may have is that there is no ramp/lift to get to the main pool area. This can be hard with a pram and little kids but the staff are always happy to help.
Vanuatu has lots of day trip activities but if you have kids then it is worth a drive to Turtle Bay to hand feed the turtles and swim in the most amazing beach. Your taxi driver will take you there and if you ask nicely will wait for you.
I didn’t want to name individual staff because they were all fantastic but I have to give a mention to Jonathan from the pool bar who kept the food and drink coming all day and night.
Georglyn and Sandria - who took such wonderful care of our baby and kept her and the toddler entertained at breakfast and throughout the day, and who were always smiling. You can’t help but be happy when the staff are always so happy!!
David for sharing stories about his family and village life and for staying late one night to watch the fire show with the guest, and finally Jon from activities who fished our pram out of the pool for us (we blame Cyclone Jasmine).
Thomas and Teneal you are doing a fantastic job of running the resort and we cannot thank you enough for making our holiday amazing. (Even with an earthquake and cyclone)
Vanuatu is an amazing place with wonderful people and we hope to be lucky enough to return for a third time soon

I travelled to Vanuatu in March, 2012. I was lucky enough to inspect this property on my educational there. What can I say this place is amazing. Although I didn't stay here an inspection was enough to entice me to book here. The grounds were kept immaculate. The property is right on the lagoon and is only 5-10 minutes from central Port Vila. They have a taxi rank at the hotel for your convenience. There is also an ATM available for guests. There is a kids club (OUTSTANDING) to keep your young ones occupied and several pools. Plus a golf course for those who want to practice on their game. The rooms themselves are clean and the ambience of the rooms is quite nice. They have interconnecting rooms, plus rooms that cater to families. I must say if I was to stay here the overwater bungalows is my top choice!

Room Tip: Book an Overwater Bungalow - YOU WILL NOT REGRET!!!

This is a lengthy review, however there is so much to share with others who are contemplating travelling to Vanuatu and looking for appropriate accommodation. We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Holiday Inn Resort and we had the most relaxing and at the same time busy 7 night stay. We were initially supposed to go to Fiji but due to the flooding, had to quickly change plans and fortunately Holiday Inn had available rooms for our party of 3 adults and 2 children (8&5 years). We had no time to research Vanuatu and knew very little of where we were going.

On our arrival at Port Vila airport we were greeted by Adventures in Paradise tours to be transferred to the resort. At the resort we checked in with no problems and were impressed by the newly renovated rooms. They were comfortable and were serviced daily with fresh towels. We stayed in a Garden view room.

Food
Full buffet breakfasts were included, topped off with omelettes cooked on request. You could even juice your own fruit and I thoroughly recommend apple, pear and grape juice! We had a couple of lunches by the poolside and ate the buffet dinner 6 out of the 7 nights. Every night was a different theme so you were not getting the same food every night. Our children ate for free which was a bonus. Happy hour was also good as certain drinks were half price. The one night we went out, we tried the French restaurant L’Houstalet. Tried the flying fox. A must! Also worth trying the coconut crab if you can.

Resort activities
The pool was excellent. It is a large pool and there was plenty of room for kids to splash around and also to swim up and down. The resort has it’s own beach where you can kayak and catamaran around the waterways. Very relaxing and all included. Tennis court is available as well as beach volleyball, basketball and golf. They have an area for kids who suffer from electronic gaming withdrawals and it is near the restaurant so they can duck off when they have finished eating and leave you in peace! Don’t miss the Fire Dancing. This was really entertaining and you can take photos with the dancers at the end.

Weather
Being the tail end of the wet season we had a couple of mornings and afternoons of rain. It wasn’t humid but pleasantly warm. Our kids managed to swim everyday. It doesn’t tend to rain for long periods so you are not totally confined to the indoors.

Kids Club
Our children did not use it so can not comment. They preferred to swim every day.

Staff
All staff were friendly, approachable and lovely. Always had a smile on their faces and were always hospitable. Can not fault them.

Getting around
We felt very safe in Port Vila. We got around town by taxi. Although being honked every minute for a taxi, their prices are reasonable and you could spend a whole day with the one taxi driver taking you from place to place as he waits for you at each stop. We did this twice using the resort taxi drivers. Taxi’s only take local money and not Aussie dollars.

Currency
There was a Westpac ATM at the resort, so local money could be withdrawn at any time. Keep in mind there is a 350vt (AU$3.50) fee with each withdrawal. There are plenty of ATM’s in town as well.

Places to visit
I’m sure there are plenty of places to see in and around Port Vila. We did a trip to Eton beach and snorkelled there. It was a lovely quiet beach, great for the kids. On our way back we had lunch at the Tamanu on the Beach restaurant. Pricey but reasonable food. We then visited the Turtle Farm where you can swim with the giant turtles and gentle sharks. Keep in mind that it needs to be high tide as you cannot swim with them when it is low tide. You can snorkel there as well.
On another day we visited the Cascade Waterfalls and this is well worth the trek up the mountain. Once there you can climb pretty much to right under the waterfalls. There are ropes to help you along and there are pools there where you can wade. Both of our children managed to go up with us. On the way back from Cascades, you can visit Hideaway Island where you can snorkel again. See some great hard corals and many types of fish. You need to catch a ferry to and from there which costs 1000vt/person (AU$10). If you plan on doing lots of snorkelling, best bring you own from home. You can hire them if you forget.

Town
There is a lot of traffic in town particularly when Cruise ships are in. We were there when 2 ships where docked. There are no road rules, no speed limits and no traffic lights. You will get honked a lot by taxis and buses asking for your fare. The markets are a great treat on Mondays-Saturdays. If you like chips, try the Kasava chips. Something different.

Summary
In all, it was a very enjoyable holiday and we were pleasantly surprised. For the time we went at the beginning of April, it was not overly touristy or crowded. For a family with 2 young children there are plenty of things to do, new things to try and great places to explore without feeling unsafe. As for the Holiday Inn Resort, this is a fantastic place to stay and would thoroughly recommend it for families. Importantly, our children had a great time and we will definitely be spreading the word about Holiday Inn Resort. We would love to return in the future.

Room Tip: Lagoon view room is closer to the pool. Less distance for kids to walk.

Easily the most amazing resort we have ever stayed at. The facilities, kids programme, activities centre, employees and managers are by far the best in the business. Everyone is friendly and everyone goes out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. The food is 5 star and you are close to everything. Thankyou Holiday Inn for such a truly amazing experience.

A+++++++++++++++++++++++

Room Tip: The family rooms are unbelievable. Ask for a connecting room if you have kids.

Great holiday didn't want to come home. Despite a small mishap with our 2 year old having a fall on our second day there we had an awesome time. A special shout out to the guys in the activities hut for keeping my 15 year old and 2 year old boys entertained. Our daughter also had a great time and has asked when we are going back, my 15 year old is determined to return in October for a music festival. The wait staff were also beautiful and the farewell they gave our 2 year old was truly fantastic. After travelling to Fiji twice we made a decision to try somewhere different and were not disappointed. Thanks for a great experience, and the cocktail and canapés!

Thanks for the review and trust your 2 year old is fit and well.

The music festival your daughter is referring to is Fest Napuan Music Festival with additional information on the Vanuatu Tourism website www.vanuatu.travel . I have mentioned in previous replies I am still not sure who has more fun down there on the beacjh area the guests or the activities team.

Maybe we will see you back again soon!

Our first overseas holiday with two of our children and couldn't have picked a better place to start. The resort is absolutely fantastic, nothing at all to complain about. The staff are all brilliant and are all so friendly and helpful. Their smiling faces will always make your day. Our girls 12 and 9 loved staying at the resort and would love to become regulars. The food is to die for and we all applaud the chefs and kitchen staff. There are too many people to list to thank as they are all so fabulous. You would never even have to leave the resort if you didnt want to as they have everything available. I have never had such comfortable beds at anywhere else but home! I can not say enough they are just so great, fab, fantastic, wonderful and all the rest.....I would recommend anyone to go there.......take me back.

Thank you for the review and photos!

That looks like a mars bar sundae from the pool bar in one of them!

Well lets hope the girls do become regulars with you in tow. One things for sure in this unique destination there is always something to do both on and off the resort.

The beds are a brand standard for Holiday Inn's so whenever you stay in a hotel or resort with the Holiday Inn brand on top you will get the same experience.

Hope to welcome you back Vanuatu in the near future.
