“Great for a family stay”
Reviewed 21 June 2012

We stayed here for 7 nights with our 5 year old son after spending 4 nights on Tanna Island seeing Mt Yasur. We had a family suite with treehouse bunk beds and playstation and our son absolutely loved it! There are only 3 of these rooms so you need to get in quick to book one. Worth the extra $ (I think) if you have young children.

Buffet breakfast was great (and free each day, even better!). The food in general was of an excellent standard and couldn't be faulted. We didn't venture out of the resort to dine elsewhere at all. Kids eat free so long as adults are eating also.

Kids pool area lots of fun, would have been nice to have a slightly warmer pool but our son didn't seem to mind too much, and stayed in so long he had blue lips! Lots of activities on offer and the fire show on the Wed night was great.

Tour booking desk very efficient. Husband and son did the buggy riding twice and I visited The Summit which is a privately owned tropical garden with stunning views.

Great kids club, well set up and the ladies there seemed lovely and very accommodating.

The only thing I could fault is the day spa, which is a bit of a let down. More like a little shop that has been quickly turned into a day spa on the cheap. Wouldn't be quite so bad if the price reflected this but it was still reasonably expensive. We did have a chance to chat with the Management while there though, and they advised that there are plans in the coming 18 months for a new extensive day spa to be built. If this is done this property will well exceed it's four star rating.

Room Tip: Overwater bungalows are a long way away from the main pool/restaurant areas. Family suites recommend...

Dear coleenaperi1

Thank you for the review and it would seem we need to build more kid suites very quickly!

The buggy tours certainly are a lot of fun and good way to experience some places you don't normally see. The newly opened Summit has become very popular with a new Zipline experience added in for those that are looking for a little adventure.

A timely reminder that we have a lot of work to do around the spa experience and the new facility will certainly help.

Look forward to welcoming you back to Vanuatu in the near future.

We have just returned from 6 nights at The Holiday Inn Resort. We enjoyed Room 161 with its view over the garden pool area. beautiful outlook each morning. We found the staff very helpful, particularly Taneal and Mark (Food & Beverage Manager). We had a couple of issues with breakfast the first two days but after a word with Mark it was quickly resolved. A great place to relax, enjoy the lagoon, walk around the property. I would highly recommend this Resort to families with young children, Two pools and activities centre for little ones. Could not fault it. Would not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Ground Floor facing the pool and gardens was an excellent location and very quiet.

We stayed here at the start and finish of our trip to Vanuatu while waiting to connect with flights to the outer islands. This used to be the Le Meridien Vanuatu but has been converted into a Holiday Inn Resort.

Getting from the airport is easy, just get a taxi for 2000Vt but make sure you confirm the price before getting in - It's about a 20 minute drive over good roads. To get into the town centre a taxi costs 500Vt, and if you can flag down a minibus it's 150Vt per person. Check-in on the first occasion was simple and I think we were in our room in under five minutes. On the 2nd occasion there was a problem with the credit card facilities so we had to leave the deposit in cash (AUD$50).

The first room we had was a lagoon facing one on the ground floor and was well fitted out but there was a strong musty smell. We would probably have asked to change rooms if it hadn't been midnight, and as it was only three nights in total we just put up with it - never did get used to the smell though. The 2nd room was on the 1st floor and didn't have any smell so was much better. The rooms look to be recently renovated, and the only other thing I could fault was that there was mould in both the bathrooms we used.

The grounds are quite nice and the main pool looks good, but was much colder than the ocean temperature so we only tried it once. The golf course was very rough but fun for a hack around to pass some time. The resort is really set-up more for families and groups than for couples, hence there are lots of activities and large eating areas - definitely no intimate restaurants.

We did eat there a few times (except breakfast) and found the food to be OK but not extraordinary. We had something from their bar menu, fish and chips, and a pizza - neither was that great and the fish was still frozen in the middle. We also had the roast meat night dinner, and again the roast meats were average but any of the fish based entrees were really good. We also had a la carte one night which I think was probably the best option all up.

The biggest positive at this resort is the staff, they were very helpful and always friendly. We didn't have any trouble with any of the bookings we made through them. Checkout does take a while especially if you want to pay by credit card, so if you have an early morning flight it's best to finalise the bill the night before.

Would I stay here again, yes as long as the price was right?

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 1st or 2nd floors to get away from the musty smell.

Thank you for the review.

Please accept my apologies for both the your food experience and also your bathrooms. It is with feedback like yours that we can address these areas and is certainly not the experience the team strive to deliver and have become known for.

Great to see you not only got to experience Efate and but also some of the other islands which are all easy to access from a base in Port Vila.

Hope to welcome you back to Vanuatu in the future.

We have just come back from a week at the Holiday Inn Vanuatu - what a beautiful holiday.

Firstly, we loved that Vanuatu is only a 3 hour flight from Sydney, the Holiday Inn only a 15 min drive from the airport, we were there before we knew it. Being able to walk to Port Vila was an added bonus (we felt like we were walking off the delicious buffet breakfast, paw paw pancakes and bacon !)

Let just say my husband and I have a eye for detail ! We could not fault our daily room servicing or the general cleanliness of pools or the common areas. We had a resort view room, and were delighted to waken to the meticulously manicured gardens, peaceful lagoon and the jungle in the distance.

Before we arrived, we had planned on dining in Port Vila every night, however after sampling both the al a carte menu and the buffet, we were perfectly happy to enjoy "happy hour" cocktails by the pool and then amble to dinner at the resort, the lagoon providing the perfect romantic backdrop to the Verandah restaurant.

There was plenty to do at the resort, we loved kayaking around the lagoon, swimming in the magnificent terrace pool and lying in the secluded hammocks we found on the island.

Yes, the resort was amazing, the food great and the weather balmy, however the icing on the cake for us was the exceptionally beautiful, gracious Ni-Van people who fell over themselves to make us feel so comfortable, happy and GENIUNELY, warmly welcomed Even arriving back at the resort after a day out touring with wet towels and dripping cossies, we were met with open arms like long lost relatives coming home.

The service was exemplary, from check-in to check-out.

My husband had to almost pry my hands off the reception desk to get me into our transfer to the airport - I did not want to leave.

Thank you Holiday Inn – we will be back ….

Room Tip: Resort View room on the top floor was fantastic

Reviews don't come much better than this for both the Resort but also for the destination!

You have picked the number one reason that people travel back to Vanuatu year after year and that is because of the beautiful people here in Vanuatu!

Hopefully we will see your hands again soon on the reception desk and out experiencing all Vanuatu has to offer.

We have just returned from 9 magical nights at the Holiday Inn Resort, during which time we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary.
At check-in we were upgraded from a garden view room to a lagoon view room, for which we were most grateful. It was a pleasure to awake each morning to that wonderful view from our balcony.
Before we left home we had plans of venturing further afield, with ideas of eating many meals away from the resort, at places recommended by fellow TA'ers, but once we arrived at the Holiday Inn we became firmly ensconced in the relaxed atmosphere & were hesitant to leave.
The breakfast buffet was 2nd to none & had offerings to tempt the fussiest of eaters. The view ....just magnificent... what a way to start the day!
Lunch at the Lobby Bar or Pool Bar was reasonably priced & delicious.
Dinner- to be honest, we found the buffet to be a little "hit & miss" - some things we liked some things we didn't - we did enjoy the kid's icecream & lollies, though. We had a la carte a few nights & we weren,t disappointed with our choices.
The nightly entertainment at the Lobby Bar was excellent & a lot of fun (if you like loud).
The fire dancing on Wednesday nights on the beach is excellent.
My other half enjoyed the challenge of a few games of golf (despite the crab holes) & we managed to kayak a couple of laps of the "island" during our stay.
We enjoyed the solitude of the "adults pool" - although this pool isn't officially designated an adults only pool, it doesn't have any attributes to make it attractive to children, so is therefore, very peaceful.(Shhhhh - don't tell anyone).
I think the most enjoyable aspect of our stay at the Holiday Inn was our interaction with the staff. In our travels throughout the South Pacific we have never encountered such a great bunch of young people, their smiles ( & sometimes far fetched stories) brightened our days.
To Thomas, Teneale, Mark, William & Olivea thank you all so much for making our 40th so special .... the bubbles were great & our time in the over-water villa ....magic.

Room Tip: Lagoon View Room = Wonderful. Overwater Villa = Magnificent!

Good Morning Fernsie

Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you for spending it at the Resort.

A great review but I'm not sure how we will keep the secret about the quiet Terrace pool now though!

We are extremely lucky with the team and will get a buzz out of reading this review. They may even make a story about it........

Thank you for choosing Vanuatu to celebrate such a milestone and look forward to seeing you back again soon.

The entrance is very Vanuatu and sets the tone for this great Holiday inn Resort. We had a garden/pool view room which adds to the experience. Staff are ample and display a very high degree of understanding and also gave us a feeling for Vanuatu. many of the staff endeared us to treat then as friends. The activites/entertainment showcase the local talent with fire dancing, island string bands and the regular kava tasting hour at sunset. The location on a lagoon on edge of Port Vila encourages relaxation. Meals are great and they is enhanced with daily theme nights. TANKYU TUMAS.

The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was great and the setting is sublime, even the crabholes on the golf course were fun. The people of this country are so friendly and only too happy to answer questions and assistance. We will certainly visit again.

Good Morning Julie B

Thank you for your 'GREAT' review.

Yes the golf course has a few extra hazards than the norm and you may think twice about retrieving the ball but can increase the chance of you getting a hole in one!

Look forward to welcoming you back to Vanuatu in the near future.
