We had one night here staying at the over water rooms on the small lagoon island and it ended our holiday on a low note. staff were unhelpful and the food was average. Room was not clean and toilet and air conditioning was not working. If you are a couple looking for a romatic place to stay, Don't stay here. Pay a bit more and go to the Havanah or the Eratap beach resort.

Dear Phil J

Thank you for review.

We are very lucky to have such fantastic high end Boutique Resorts like Eratap and Havannah in Vanuatu. We have found the overwater Vila's meet the expectation of guests that want the solitude they offer whilst still having access to all the Holiday Inn Resort facilities and activities.

Sorry to hear your stay was so short with us but hope you come back to explore all Vanuatu has to offer in the future.

What a great resort. Good location on the lagoon, Picturesque. Plenty of free water spoirts to keep you busy. Good pool area and amenities. Had a great Brekky buffet. Day Spa attached. Would recommend to any type of traveller as you get great value for money here.

When we first arrived at Holiday Inn we were impressed but a little dissapointed that it was just another big Hotel. But then we warmed to the staff and really enjoyed our time here.
Rooms were lovely. Very clean - could not fault them. We had an interconnecting set for us and our 4 children. Plenty big enough. Beds are so comfortable you sink into them!
The food was great! Brekky is so so good!!! Pretty much everything you want and fills you up. Mostly we skipped lunch or had a snack. We ate every night at the resort as it was better value for us as the kids ate free, and was easy. The buffet dinners were pretty good and the kids dessert buffet is a winner!
Vanuatu is NOT cheap! Drinks at the resort were very Expensive, like $9.00 a glass of wine or spirits! The plus side is the Happy hour! There are 2, one from 4-6 at the pool bar and a later one at the Lobby bar. Half price drinks. Phew!
The fire show on Thursday night is awesome..don't miss it!!
The resort is a fair walk to town but its so easy to catch a taxi or bus at the front door.
Kids club looked great and my kids were really excited to go! But they didnt really want to go back after the first day- when they didnt get to do any of the activities on the list ( crab hunting, boat riding). Bit dissapointed but they were happy to swim in the pool and come with us.
Pools and water activities were great. You can just hang around resort all day.
The lagoon is not really for swimming.
For me the staff really made this place fun for us! There were a few that really went out of their way for you and we made some lovely friends here.

Good Afternoon Ashlea7

Thank you for your "Heavenly" review.

Great to see you made the short trip across to Vanuatu with 4 kids! We are very lucky with the team here as they genuinely engage with our guests making the departure at times very hard.

I was surprised to hear read about the kids club activities as the team seem to have as much fun as the kids doing them. I have discussed it with the team and please pass on my apologies to the kids.

Don't forget to like us on on our facebook page as you may just see some of the team you got to know featuring.

Look forward to welcoming you all back to Vanuatu in the near future.

I have to be honest we arrived in the rain and it continued for 4 days straight so my initial impressions of the resort were tainted with a bit of frustration. It took a few days for me to relax and finally appreciate the resort. Overall we enjoyed our stay here. We travelled with 2 adults and 1 child. We had a one bedroom suite. The biggest issue with this resort is the bed wings. They are old and the resort cannot change what they have without knocking it down and starting again so I guess we just accepted it for what it was. They have done a refurb and it is just that a tasteful redecorate. It does not however detract from noisy slamming doors, thin walls, small balcony and rooms and bathroom. What would really help is spending some money on large balconies. This would take some structural work but they have the space and it would make the rooms far more appealing and spacious feeling. Housekeeping was great and fairly consistent for an island resort. This is not a slick 5 star resort and if you go with these expectations you will be disappointed. It is a resort in a lovely setting, offering great facilities for families. The food aside from breakfast was inconsistent but we found that outside the resort as well. A reminder this resort is on a lagoon inlet area not the coast line. We still swam and did not get sick. We also kayaked and used the small sail boats. It does have a nice sandy waterfront with lots of loungers and a great area for beach volleyball or soccer. It also has interesting water life - fish sea snakes etc but is not really a snorkeling area. But there are plenty of other places on the island for this. What we loved:
1. Breakfast especially the juicer
2. The setting and view from the restaurant.
3. The friendly staff and management team
4. The open foyer area
5. Kids club. Initially the ladies felt a bit disengaged but I returned to drop of a sun hat and realised that they are just shy to play with your kids in front of you but boy once we are gone they are into it with them. Its free and has an outdoor area as well. They have morning and afternoon tea of fruit, water available and you can pre order your kids lunch for them if they are there for a long period. They do take them out for walks to feed fish etc. We used it for short periods daily mostly as our son(3) kept asking to go so this is a good sign. More catered to younger children though.
6. Easy distance from town. Always a taxi or local bus out front to pick you up.
7. Tour desk in foyer was helpful with lots of brochures. They place no pressure on you but are available for advice anytime. She also told us what we should be paying to go to particular sights using local bus and taxi so we did not pay too much. She also made a couple of calls for us to a driver and to the airport free of charge.
8. Comfortable beds.

What they could improve on:
1. Daily water bottles to room of one per person and water by the pool. This is the first resort where we have not received a daily replacement. I have to commend the restaurant though as there is constant water available for free with each meal. I think they could set up a large water dispenser of sorts at the pool bar as I have seen in other resorts.
2. Build large balconies you can actually sit on. I think this is the easiest way to improve the rooms and would take the resort to the next level. We did have one with the one bed suite as we were an end room but apart from those end rooms the balconies are so so small.
3. Pool bar service is haphazard and our orders were consistently lost and double charged. I finally worked it out that they wrote them on the the back of coasters and if not given to the right person they were simply lost which was not ideal. A far better system should be put in place with a bit of thought and training. Also staff need to walk around and tout for business occasionally.
4. Duplicate receipts for guests. We were signing for things but never got a copy for ourselves. I just checked out bill daily at the desk to keep track but a copy of my receipts would have been better.
5. Clarity around the kids eat free policy. Really we only found out the rules on this from talking to other parents. One night neither of us ate except for our son so we expected to pay for his meal but did not realise that desert was not a natural part of the meal and therefore paid double. Need to clarify this for parents.
6. Kids meals were probably the best here on the island but could still be improved. we loved the fact there was always a green salad on the plate but wondered if we could have the option to swap the salad for veges, just a few steamed and the fries for mash. Sundae station at the buffet pure heaven for kids.

Thanks Holiday Inn and team.

Room Tip: One bed suites on the end have large balcony but look over golf course and partial lagoon view if you get a front one. Kids suites looked fantastic.

We recently had 4 nights at the Holiday Inn. We were very impressed with the rooms, they were spotlessly clean and smelt nice and fresh each time we went back after they were made up. The staff were very friendly and were always keen to have a chat to us. Had the buffet breakfast which was very good, all the usual breakky things, also omelettes which were very nice, tea and coffee was always topped up at the table. Had dinner there twice, the roast night was great, but the asian buffet not so good, but no matter where you go all can't be perfect. We had lunch in the Lobby Bar which was very nice, steak sandwich and ham/cheese panini which both had ample serve of chips. We were there as a couple, there were quite a few other couples as well as a lot of families. We didn't swim in the lovely pools as the weather wasn't the best, but all the kids that were there did. The pool bar had happy hour which had nice cocktails at $7.50 each. Best to go at happy hour as alcohol is a bit expensive there. The grounds are lovely and plenty of areas to go for a nice walk around the resort. They had a band in the lobby bar which were very good, and Wednesday night, the fire dancers which got the crowd up and dancing. It was a great place to stay, it is easy to get buses and taxis from the front to Port Vila, and I would like to go back and hope the weather next time is better.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the lagoon, very close to the Lobby.

Good Afternoon shauna s

Thank you for your 'relaxing' review.

Some very good tips in your review for our future guests. Sorry to hear that the weather was a little unseasonable during your stay but it certainly gives a great excuse to come and visit Vanuatu again!

Look forward to welcoming you back to blue skies in the near future.
