Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu

Common areas of the Holiday Inn Resort in Port Vila have been renovated extensively within the last 5 years. This makes dining in the main restaurant or having a few quiet drinks at the bar quite nice and relaxing.

Firstly, to the rooms. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite, overlooking the golf course. The room was spacious, clean and had a daily room cleaning service. The room came with a bar fridge and a safe (for all those valuables when travelling abroad). As our room faced the golf course, it was quiet and relaxing to sit on the balcony in the evening breeze, cold beverage in hand.

In the open plan reception/bar area, they have live music some nights and is otherwise good for their bar meals.

Heading down to the 2 pools, the significant downside was that there was no shade over either pool, which meant that unless you wanted to get burnt to a crisp in the 38 degree heat, you'd have to wait for shade from the buildings to come over at around 3-4pm or so.

The poolside bar is also great. You can sit next to the pool or on the sand next to the adjacent lagoon. Again, with minimal shade though, the heat coming off the sand during the day makes it uncomfortable when trying to enjoy the breeze and serenity of the lagoon. At night, the lagoon's beach comes alive once a week for a fire show (free of charge), complete with fire twirlers and fire breathers - amazing stuff, especially when you're so close to the action to feel the heat coming off the sticks.

The in-house restaurant is also good, but a little steep on price though - the cost of convenience I suppose. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast was by far the best, for the heat of March anyway, since you could sit outside and overlook the lagoon from your perched position and with a slight cooling breeze, it's really nice. The food is fresh, there is plenty of it and the staff just can't do enough for you.

There is also an associated casino, located in a separate building at the head of the entrance driveway. We're not gamblers, so we didn't venture to the casino but from talking to others in the Resort who did make a donation to the Casino's CEO holiday fund, they tell me that it's nice, a little small, but otherwise ok.

The resort is about 5 minutes drive from the centre of Port Vila, or anywhere really, since it is an island after all. Don't be tempted to dive anywhere yourself in Vanuatu though. The roads (if you can describe them as such) are bitumen bits with potholes that could swallow a family of elephants. When being driven anywhere by taxi, hold on since the "norm" is to swerve all over the place to dodge the potholes - scary stuff if you've never experienced this sort of crazy driving before.

In summary, the Holiday Inn Resort is clean, quiet, relaxing, has a good location and is quite reasonably priced. We'd be happy to stay there again if we ever head back to Vanuatu and have recommended this place to friends heading over from Aus.

Happy travels.

Good Afternoon Kracker_1

Thank you for the review and recommendation to prospective travelers.

Overall sounds like you ha d a great time with us and the various experiences around Efate including some travels on the roads around Port Vila. In a country that has no income tax there is very little revenue to spend on infrastructure including , roads, schooling or health care. The amazing thing is how little the population have but how warm and friendly they are!

Look forward to welcoming you back to Vanuatu in the near future.

Stayed here for a week recently with our two old. Not much more you could ask for from a family hotel. Great facilities and our little boy absolutely loved the toddler pool. Staff very friendly and helpful. Kids room great and very welcoming. Only problem we had was our room was right near the main lobby where a small band played most nights. Only played until about 9-10pm but with a toddler this was quite late and very loud. Asked to move rooms and were lucky that we could move. If you want quiet early nights ask for a room away from the lobby. Otherwise superb.

Room Tip: If you want an early night ask for room away from the lobby. Band plays there in the evening and wal...

Good Afternoon Liz P

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

The kids pool area is a hit with most of our younger guests and provides hours of fun leading to a nice long sleep! We have the live entertainment in the bar 4 nights a week until 9.30pm and I am sorry to hear that you could hear it in the room.

Hope to welcome you all back for some more pool fun in the near future.

Our family of 10 have recently stayed at this resort, Nanna, Pa our children and grandchildren enjoyed a lovely week at the holiday inn. Very accommodating and friendly staff. Loads of stuff for the kids to do.Nice pools, bars, night shows and bands for the adults. The only downfall is that there is a large amount of steps to get down to the pool, entertainment and beach area. Having a baby in a pram posed great difficulty at times if there wasn't anyone to take the load of carrying the pram down the steps. A great suggestion would be to install ramps around the resort for people with young children, the elderly and the disabled. Would recommend this place for a great family holiday.

Room Tip: We had garden rooms. They were quiet and private.

We didn't stay at the Holiday Inn but dropped by for lunch. We were very impressed by the resort facilities and vowed to come back and stay at the Holiday Inn. We could see that there were a number of water sports guests could partake in, and the atmosphere was just amazing!

We had a great time at the hotel. It used to be a club med. I visited with my daughter and mother. Personnel were ever so accommodating. Many of those who work there have been there a long time. We ussed the bar at the pool side for dinner. I plan to go back.

The staff are an asset to this hotel, they are warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The pools and lagoon are great areas for Kids, the rooms are a little dated but that is to be expected given the age of the property. The only downside was there was a lack of variety on the food front which I have since been told is being improved. Would definitely recommend for a family friendly holiday.

Room Tip: The lagoon view rooms have a great outlook.

As a semi regular traveler to Vanuatu, I have never been nor stayed at the Holiday Inn, until now.

The whole place has a relaxed feel and happy atmosphere which in my opinion makes content staff. The resort embraces and offers local activities, the food is good also.

Perfect for families, but their are enough areas for couples to do their own thing.

The fire show held on a Thursday night is something you have to see to believe.

Find out for yourself!

Great to have you with us on for this trip.

The Fire Dancers every Thursday night is one the nights of entertainment not to be missed. The team from Won smal bag have created this Fire Show to generate revenue for their theatre groups that do a considerable amount of education throughout Vanuatu through the use of theatre.

Hope to welcome you back to Vanuatu on your next trip.
