“Great place, great chef”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

My wife and I recently visited Vanuatu and spent 2 great days @ Erakor. The people were extremely friendly and accomodating and the chef (Tyrone Mann) was outstanding.

We had the "Chef's dinner" and Tyrone and his staff made it the best meal we've ever experienced. Wish we could've stayed longer.

We stayed here for 3 nights after 5 nights at Island Magic Resort, a self contained resort on the mainland which was excellent. The island is very relaxing and peaceful. Food at the restaurant is very good. The standard of villas are reasonably basic but in excellent waterfront locations. Snorkelling is pretty good but not fantastic. Getting into town for supplies is easy and cheap.
Overall a great holiday experience. My only complaint is that for the price, comparable to many other places we have stayed, Erakor is way overpriced for what you get.

Let me just start by saying a big thank you to Lita and Natalie at Erakor for all their help in organising our recent wedding at Erakor Island.

While we didn't stay at Erakor the venue for the wedding was perfect, exactly what we had hoped for.....intimate, relaxed and beautiful. Working together via email with Erakor could have been a disaster but nothing was too much trouble for them and I felt very calm in the lead up to the day.

We had 35 people travel with us from Australia to be part of our celebration and it could not have been more perfect. The weather (after a shaky morning) turned gorgeous and the day went completely to plan.....thanks to the lovely Lita.

The food was amazing, I had not had a chance totry the restaurant before we arrived and could only work off other Tripadvisor reviews, and I could not have been more happy with the meal, my guests are still raving about the calamari entree.

If you are looking for a wedding venue in Port Vila on a beach......I recommend this one with all my heart.

Wow in no way were we ready for the wonderful experience that awaited us at Erakor Island. We had tossed up between a bunch of places but were really after a hut on the beach so that cut it down to Hideaway & Erakor, hang the little bit extra we said & how it paid off, a day trip to Hideaway Island, where everything is old or broken or both proved to us that we chose well. Friendly staff, Fabulous food & accommodation & all in a small sand island (not coral like Hideaway) setting was excellent. Do you self a Favour if its snorkeling you want just do a day trip to Hideaway but stay at Erakor. You wont be sorry.

Room Tip: Don't go into town on the days the cruise ships are in the cruise ship people are rude & don...

I stayed at Erakor Island Resort for 4 nights over the Easter break.

I travelled alone and I chose the Starfish lodge option, which was the only one within my price range (AUD95/night). It is still very expensive for a shared-facilities accommodation, but it is justified by the location and the quality of the amenities.
The lodge looked brand new and was still under further development when I was there, hence it looked a bit bare/sterile. The lodge is huge and it was cleaned multiple times every day by the friendly staff at Erakor.

My room only had a fan, a nightstand and a chair, but that was OK. The toilets with showers were good enough, although I did find a cockroach there one night (understandable in Vanuatu though). The hot water in the shower was a bit erratic.

The island has a restaurant with good food which overlooks the clear waters of the lagoon. The beach is great and kayaks are available. It is very easy to spot colorful fish everywhere, as well as starfish, sea snakes etc. Wear your reef shoes!

Dinners are reasonably priced while the (just OK) buffet breakfast is included.

The resort seems to cater mostly to aussie couples and families, while it is extremely hard to meet other solo travelers.
At the resort they organise kids activities, movie nights etc. Thursday night is island night, which was on par with others I've seen in other Pacific Islands, although the dancing is not as appealing.

There's plenty of staff around, mostly busy building and cleaning up, and everyone is always smiley.

The ferry service to mainland is fantastic. From the jetty, it is easy to catch a "bus" for 150 vatu or a taxi for 700.

Tours to Mele Cascades, the Eton area and Lelepa Island are easily booked from the reception.

Highly recommended.

we stayed at erakor island in a waterfront bungalow with our 3 teenagers in jan 12 and had an absolute ball. great location just to relax and kick back on the beach. only a short boat ride over the lagoon then you are less than 10 mins from vila and very cheap bus trip too get there.
abby and her staff were fantastic and so friendly, no problem was to big and was sorted straight away. also provided excellent advise on trips to take and restaurants in town to go for a meal.
You will have no problem going to sleep there with the lagoon water lapping up to the rear of your bungalow.
the melanesian feast night is a must and a great way to show kids a part of melanesian culture, not to mention the food was great.
cant wait to return

We stayed for one week in late March and loved it. Erakor would not be for persons wanting a ritzy five star experience, but if you want to relax and feel far away from everything this is perfect. The location is beautiful, yet close (and easily reached) to Port Villa but without the noise and hassle of some other resorts on the main island. Staff at Erakor are fantastic - very friendly and sincere. Please remember you are not at home - you are on holidays and life is (and should be) at a slower pace - island time! Food at the restaurant is good - we ended up eating there 6 of the 7 nights and enjoyed relaxing over the water. We stayed in the spa villas and found them to be private and very relaxing - water at the front steps. Be prepared for no airconditioning - the rooms on the western side get the full sun in the afternoon (and beautiful sunsets) and were hot. This gave us the perfect opportunity to find a shady area with a breeze somewhere else on the island. There is no pool, but the water is always a few steps away, and great to swim in.The end villas are an decent walk from the reception area - we actually found this to be quite enjoyable but may be an issue if mobility is a problem. I have to agree with the previous review - the concrete ramp to the water is very slippery at high tide - safer to enter over the rocks. Reef shoes are a must have! Overall, we loved our time at Erakor and were very sad to leave. My advice is to relax and enjoy - this place allows you to do that perfectly.

Room Tip: Rooms 20 and 23 are the most private
