“WEDDING AT ERAKOR”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

We recently returned from our ' weddingmoon ' at Erakor and our first visit to Vanuatu. We found the resort very welcoming and the staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Upon arrival at the jetty we were treated like special guests. As soon as we touched foot on the island we were greeted by Chief Henry and shown to our welcoming drink and familiarization with Blanca. With my wife full of questions and keen to plan our wedding to a tee we were then greeted by Lita our wedding co-ordinator who was waiting for our arrival and just as keen as the missus. Thankyou Lita. With the wife occupied and our belongings already waiting in our room, I was then given our room key and headed off to find my duty free purchases which I was eager to consume.

We stayed in a deluxe spa cabin which was exceptional. I wanted the accomodation to be perfect for our special occasion and as soon as I walked in I just smiled. It was exactly want I needed. Then I walked out onto the back deck and smiled again. The view was amazing.

As the first couple days were dry we went on a couple tours. The ' round island tour ' was a great way to see Port Vila and a big thankyou to Carmos who showed us around the island and even took us to his village for a tradional lunch.

We did have some rainy days/nights during our week stay but were quite happy to just laze around and enjoy the atmosphere. On the day of our wedding we still had some light showers but were hopeful on marrying in the outdoor chapel. Lita and co set it up for us exactly as requested by the wife and readied a plan B for us just in case. Lita was also kind enough to organize another cabin on the island for me to get ready in as the wife was having her hair/makeup and dressing in ours. The rain stopped for about half an hour and our wedding went ahead on time and as planned. Her warrior escort was a grand enterance and made for awesome photos. Everything went without a hitch. An absolutely spectacular location to hold such a special moment. Our private dinner was back at the reception/restaurant area and gained another smile from us both. Our private area was set up exactly as the wife requested and more. We chose a seafood platter for our wedding meal and it was a feast. The night was ended with a private dance on the beach and returning to our villa which had the spa bath bubbling and filled with rose petals and petals scattered on the bed. Romantic indeed.

I would like to thank Lita for her efforts and her friendliness in providing us with a perfect wedding. Blanca for her smile and Esther the masseuse for making sure the wife was pampered and happy. Also Donny the ferryman for his local info and humour. We also had the pleasure of chatting over a couple of drinks with the managers ( Dave & Nola ) and found them to be most hospitable and willing to provide whatever was required to make our wedding & stay a memorable one. Michael our photographer was also very helpful and has impressed us with his photography of the occasion. Also a special mention to honeymooners Jodie & Bryce who joined us for dinner/ drinks and a wedding. As we eloped it was nice to have friends around us even though we had just met on the island.

Erakor island is private and well cared for. Our accomodation was mint and the staff like family. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and we enjoyed our dinners there but did get bored with breakfast quickly. Unfortunately due to weather we missed out on the fire dancers but found some another night in town. For a wedding location the place is perfect. A huge thankyou to all involved for making our wedding all that we wanted and more.

Room Tip: We had room number 9. Definitely worth the extra money for the deluxe spa villas.

We recently stayed on the Family Fun package.

We had quite miserable weather so that made our holiday a bit down from the start. We arrived late after a delayed flight. The next morning when we went to book our inclusions we found the weekend activities staff not knowledgeable. It was like fighting for information, then reconfirming 3 x and then finding we weren't booked. This was on a Sunday and possibly relief staff. The week day staff were excellent as was the reception staff. But we did feel very much 'what are we doing here?' on our first day. Our tours through the resort were great, as was our massage.

Our package had unlimited babysitting, and this was a struggle. We had hoped to use it for diving once and for two nights. We ended up only using one as it was a bit of a mission to organise and the regular babysitter was not available. Often the activities didn't happen. We were very disappointed the fire dance night was cancelled due to weather.

Our room was basic but functional, and we were happy with the cleaning. We enjoyed the water views and the hammock when it wasn't raining. The snorkeling was a little disappointing, but it was still out there - just don't expect the same quality as the Fiji islands and you'll be right.

We enjoyed the breakfasts, although they did get a bit monotonous by day 5, but they were fine and of good quality. The restaurant meals we had there we enjoyed.

Our kids had a great time roaming the island and the staff were very welcoming towards them. The staff were actually extremely accommodating on all aspects, including a late check out on a fight delay leaving.

We loved Vanuatu, but Erakor is probably not the right island for us. We think Hideaway might be more us next time as we are dive and snorkeling enthusiasts. But on the whole our stay was enjoyable.

Thank you Lita and the team for giving me a beautiful and relaxing wedding. Everyone attended are in awe of the beautiful venue and the lovely people. The staff thought of every little detail from decoration, to music and the food is as good as any fine dining restaurant in Melbourne. My husband and I will forever remember this with fond memories.

The end of October was getting a bit warm for my big dress and my husband’s full suit, never the less Michael – the photographer did a great job. Judi - the cake lady did magic with our cake, it was more beautiful than I envisaged. Only one day out of the week we were there rained.

The room rate may be more expensive than other resorts, but they don’t hit you up on extras. The restaurant and gift shop are fair priced. The resturant over look the lagoon, we ate there every second night. The coconut crab is a must try for seafood lovers, it feeds at least two people. Staff are always happy to personalise your holiday and making your stay special. Actually they are always happy, and it is helplessly infectious. The resort has a limited number of villas; this means you have ample personal space to yourself.

If you want something special for your anniversary, vow renewal or just a romantic holiday, this is the place! Newly married - Justin and Yi

Room Tip: We had room no.8 as our honeymoon suite, one of the newer Villa. It has a perfect view of the lagoon...

First trip to Vanuatu. We stayed at Erakor for 10 nights in October - my wife and 11yo and 15yo son.
Having travelled to Fiji in the past, we thought Fijians were the friendliest people in the world and were a bit concerned about what this trip would be like. We need not have worried....
Absolutely magic - the staff of Erakor were absolutely magnificent - at the end of our 10 days we felt like we were part of the family. Never have I felt so relaxed and "at home" while travelling - there were even tears when we departed. A special mention to Gilbert who adopted our 11 yo and taught him much about local culture and hunting.... also to Chief Henry and Blanca who also kept Mitch busy and presented him with a staff T-shirt for helping out around the Resort.
My wife celebrated her birthday while at Erakor - to her surprise, a group of the staff (led by Gilbert) came to our Villa singing Happy Birthday and presented her with a Vodka Cocktail in a Coconut - absolutely priceless!!!!
We stayed in Villa 1 - perfect for us with the boys upstairs and our bed overlooking the pristine water. The amenities are comfortable and sufficient and the daybed on the verandah and nearby hammock was a great extra...
Snorkelling from the doorstep - unbeatable...... some areas of the reef just 50 meters from the Villa were like diving in someone's aquarium!! Sea snakes, Moray eels, Nemos - in fact the whole cast of "Finding Nemo" were easily found.
Breakfast was basic, but provided all we needed to get us through a hectic day of snorkelling and laying around. Dinner at Erakor was good, but a tad expensive - but a short Ferry ride and we found some pretty good restaurants in Port Vila with very reasonable prices. Having said that, we did eat on the Island more than on the mainland.
The Melanesian Night with the Fire Dancers was great entertainment.
Any little imperfections that you may notice around the island are completely overshadowed by the incredible staff - the management of Erakor should be very proud of their people!!!

Room Tip: If you're travelling with children, the Family Villas are fantastic - Villa 1 is so close to eve...

I have no idea what the person a few reviews back is talking about because my partner Josh and i just left Erakor Island today after a week on the island and we could not speak highly enough of our experience.

It is absolutely beautiful!

We stayed in the delux beachfront spa villas and the room was perfect! We stepped off our deck (where we had a day bed, an outdoor spa and table and chairs) straight into the crystal water.

The staff were a highlight for my partner and I. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to make you feel at home. Lita, Peter, Gilbert, Blanca, Sam and Jim, just to say a few!

Get to know them and don’t be shy to ask about their culture. They will be happy to tell you their story and it made our experience all the more special. One of the staff even took us to his village, introduced us to his family and showed us his home, church and how he lived, followed by some Cava of course.

If I had to mention one downfall to the resort it would be the restaurant. It is beautiful on the water and the cocktails lovely but not a lot of options. The breakfast buffet was also quite small. However everything that was there was delicious and there was always some kind of eggs ready to be cooked with toast. This did not bother us at all. We ate in the resort restaurant one evening and then ventured into town or to another resort each other.

Make sure you go to the Melanesian night. It was awesome, especially the fire dancers.

We would recommend this resort to anyone! Beautiful clear water, amazing staff, perfect rooms (make sure you sleep with the mosquito net down) and just a general great atmosphere!

We were very sad to leave today!!!

Thank you again, we will be back asap!

Room Tip: Pay a little bit extra for the Beachfront Delux Spa Villas. We had number 9 and it was great, newley...

We stayed at Erakor for 3 nights. Rooms were beautiful with basic amenities (which is all you need). We stayed in room 18 and imagine our surprise when we opened the sliding door to the deck and the water is right outside! Each Villa had its own hammock which is great condition. At one stage I was on the hammock and about 20 people from the village across the water came over on a couple of kayaks, canoes and a boat to say hello to all the visitors.

The food was at a very high standard for Vanuatu and the Cocktails were delicious. There was a woman who appeared to run the restaurant. We didn't know her name, but we affectionately called her Aunty. She was one of the loveliest people you could meet. Always happy to have a laugh with you.

The staff were amazing and lovely to talk to. Henry was the person you talk to for tours and also for activities on the island. He is always happy to help and always smiling. I believe there was a child minding service in the evening so parents could have a few quiet cocktails.

They supplied kayaks and canoes that you can hire. The equipment was at a high standard (we had our own snorkel gear for the coral reefs around the island).

The ferry to the island was readily available and there was always a taxi waiting on the other side to take you where you need to go.

We had a 60min back massage included in our package and it was very nice.

Even though the weather wasn't the best for us, Erakor Resort was the best place to be. Watching the sunset while drinking cocktails at the restaurant (which overlooks the water) was a highlight.

Such an amazing place with postcard views!! Went here on our honeymoon as somewhere to relax and reflect and it ticked all the boxes here to help us do that. Came back home feeling very chilled and revived! The staff are amazing and friendly and LOVE the 'island time' even though we didn't see too much of it due to it being a bit quiet. Didn't find the need to leave the island much as perfect place to relax but already planning our trip back to do the many activities around Vanuatu. Got the romance package which I would highly recommend as the inclusions are great. Must do the Melanesian feast - very fun and interesting. Get involved! Make sure you make the Aerogard as the rooms aren't fully mosquito proof. Can't speak highly enough of this place as it really did meet our hopes of having an island getaway island style...you may need to leave any Western expectations behind.

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms can be noiser due to the waves, but didn't bother us too much.
