“So relaxing, after 2 days I felt we had been there for weeks”

Spent 6 nights on Hideaway Island and loved it. It is so laid back and relaxing and perfect for getting away from the hussle and bussle of Port Vila. The only down side is the bar and restaurant closes at 9pm but there is a beach bar and restaurant only 5 mins away by boat which is open late. This does mean the Hideaway is nice and peaceful if you are looking for quiet. The staff is delightful and the food is basic but fresh and tasty. The must try are the curries. Especially the chicken or fish curry. Delicious and the top choice. Check out the Melanesian Night on a Thursday and definitely go on the Mele Village tour on a Tuesday afternoon. You will get to meet the cute village kids and check out a Kava Bar. The kava there is very strong! The Oceanside Bungalows are huge and spacious. Not very luxurious but they are big, comfortable and have a big deck with a hammock for two. The snorkelling and diving is superb and a must-do is mailing a waterproof postcard at the Underwater Post Office just a few metres from shore. Mele Cascades is also just a 20 min walk from the beach and not to be missed. This resort is a perfect choice for anyone wanting to avoid the noise, stress and perils of the mainland.

I went to Hideaway on a diving package. I'm a newly qualified diver and almost a senior citizen, so, I was delighted to discover that I could arrange in advance to have my own personal dive guide for a small extra cost. Lulu accompanied me on all my dives, and even changed his day off so I could have continuity. With Lulu watching over me I was able to totally relax and enjoy the experience. And he didn't seem to mind having the blood squeezed out of his hand during 2 scary but awesome night dives!! Woody runs a very tight ship, it's all about safety and having the best possible experience at all levels. He also took the time each evening to talk to us individually or as a group about our day's dives.
All the diveshop boys are friendly, helpful and highly competent-Jako, Kevin, Nicky, Madison and Lulu.
I agree with the previous reviewer about the resort looking a bit tired especially the Lodge rooms bathroom facilities. A few more staff to alleviate the long lunch queues of day trippers would also help. Having said that, the food is excellent and all the staff, Stella, Henry, Charity and Jeffery, to name some, are very friendly and efficient.
I would definitely recommend this resort to divers and snorkellers!

The price was excellent, the food was great and the service was superb. Woody, Maddi, Joko, Kevin and Nikki in the dive shop made it a fabulous experience. Their experience , patience and knowledge of diving the reefs made this one extremely enjoyable experience. Rooms are a bit tired and need some work.

This is not a fancy resort - bungalows are basic but clean and comfortable. The island itself is beautiful, snorkeling is very good, and I'll have to take my partner's word for it that the diving is excellent. Staff are extremely friendly, always with a big smile and hello. The food at the restaurant is pretty good, service is quick, food and drinks reasonably priced.

The daily snorkel safari takes you out into the deeper water around the reef, and are really good for those (like myself) who aren't totally comfortable in deep water. I also highly recommend the Tuesday afternoon cultural walk into Mele village.

We stayed here for 3 nights, which was just the right amount of time - the snorkeling area is not that large so after a couple of days you have covered it all, although there are about a dozen different sites for scuba diving.

My only negative - our bungalow faced the reef, and the sound of the ocean kept me awake at night!

The staff are fantastic on this island. The dive shop staff especially Madi, Nikki and Woody were great, especially with our two young jnr divers. Thanks for a wonderful holiday, we will be back again.

Home away from home, the only way to describe 10 days at Hideaway Island.
It's not flash or expensive, clean and tidy with all basic needs meet.
I have returned to hideaway 6 times now, all for one main reason.
The staff..... Like family friends, always happy to see you.
The dive crew... Joka, Kolin, Kevin, Maddy, Nic, Thomas and Henry all deliver professional divemaster services in the most friendly way. ( I am a retired divemaster )
Woody... the dive shop supervisor, a nice bloke who could enforce his guidelines behind the scene.
Meals.. Bruce and his team can feed us anytime.... Say No More.
Rooms... Amy and co: make our day as well as makeup bungalo 11.
There is always something special to greet us when Amy has visited.
It rained a lot this visit, but this did not dampen the happy spirit of....
Alice,Lulu,Flo,Wilson,Charity,Jo,Nancy,Stella,Lilly,Tube,Andre and Sue.
Allison...Hideaway Island's junior ambassador. One smart little girl, full of information and a pleasure to chatt with.
We will be back.
Darrell and Michelle.

Just came back from a 5 night stay in Vanuatu. First 2 nights were at Hideaway and whilst it rained the whole time we were there it was lovely. It is nice to be out of Vila and most people we spoke to went to Hideaway as a day trip anyway. It was nice to be there. Woke very early in the morning and went snorkelling. The water was a bit murky but to have such easy access to the reef was nice. I think if you are looking for spectacular coral outcrops you are better going to Samoa but the fish were beautiful and abundant. The other major attraction to Hideaway was the food. It is a fraction of what we paid nearly everywhere else and was good. Try the legendary curry served in a coconut shell. Almost too pretty to eat.
We stayed in a beach bungalow and whilst it was nice to have a sea view the room did not have a mosquito net and YES there is malaria in Vila (ask the locals). So in terms of the room it was nothing to write home about but was clean and comfortable and good value for money. If you are coming to Vanuatu thinking it is cheap. THINK AGAIN. Everything is about the same as it is in Oz and things do run on island time so just relax and have another cocktail. CHEERS.
