If you don't mind just a little bit of "rustic" then this is one fantastic place to spend a holiday. My wife, 12 yo boy, and I had one of our very best holidays ever at this destination. We went to have a simple dive vacation but left feeling that we had one of the best experiences imaginable. The diving was fantastic (and it was almost at your front doorstep). The dive staff made you feel "one of them". The hotel staff were always pleasant and eager to serve. The costs were not over the top. We loved it so much that we intend on going back later this year.

It's only a few hours door to door from Brisbane - who could ask for more.

Cheers guys for a job GREATLY done!

  • Liked — It was roomy with superb views and a great sink (a converted giant clam!!)
  • Disliked — Nothing at all - but remember it is rustic

We have just spent five days at Hideaway. Went there for the snorkelling and diving and were not disapointed in fact some of the best variety of fish and coral I have seen. The underwater post office was also a unique feature.
But there is more to Hideaway than just the water highlights. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the relaxed style of dinning creates a relaxed atmosphere where it is so easy to meet other guests and swop tales.
Nothing is a problem there and they are only to happy to help out in anyway.
Bruce is a great guy and his meals are wonderful.
Anyone wanting a relaxing holiday and experiencing real Vanuatu should consider Hideaway

Stayed May 2007

Hideaway Island EFATE Vanuatu 23rd April to 28th April 2007

Oh what a wonderful location to stay. A marine santuary, so each time you enter the pristine waters you are surrounded by Tropical fish, A bit like swimming in a fishtank with all the fish.

And thats not all, the food is 5 star every night and lunch time.
I never made it too breakfast , but would imagine it to be the same exquisit delights.
Imagine eating your dinner on the front of the resort just by the waters edge with your feet inthe coral and sand, well thats what your have. Nice and Casual.
The staff are so friendly and helpful for whatever your needs are.

We only had 5 days and were kept busy the whole time, I kept looking at that hammock, but didn't get to use it too much I definately needed a longer stay and next time thats just what we will do.
Everyday we were treated to a trip out to the reefs around the Island to see different habitats and snorkle or further out to scuba if we wished.
Didn't have our licence, No problem we could have had though, in just 3 to 4 days with our lessons being in the sea instead of a pool here in Aistralia.
Thats one for next time as well.

The little bungerlows around the Island are basic, but gorgeous, and the cleaning girls who are lovely decorate them with flowers every day after cleaning them up.
I wanted to see one of the villas, maybe next time, I really needed a longer stay, 5 days not long enough.

The boat gets you away from the Island 24hours a day, one morning we were out of there for anzac day dawn service, forgot to tell russell the boat driver and had to wake him up at the wharf.
Poor Russell, we made it in plenty of time.

Although we did leave the Island a few times, we were always reluctant to do so. to leave our little haven, but we just had to see the
Mele Cascades which are in walking distance from the Island and the most georgeous site to behold you.
We went twice, while we stayed there.

And thats not all, we arrived on a Monday and were treated to a villiage walk through on the Tuesday afternoon, which was a pleasure and a Melanesian feast on the Thursday night which was scumptious, then we listened to the band and danced the evening away with the staff.
I loved it more than anywhere else to stay for a private relaxing holiday, with or without the children but next time I am staying there much longer than my 1st visit
You have just got to do it, It's a beautiful place and the Mele people are fantastic lovely people.
Might see you there.
April and Brett
