“Great resort with great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2011

Highly recommended. The villas are self-catered so its easy to stay in a cook up a storm with the help of the french supermarket up the road. However the restuarant (and bar) is also good (recommend the burger with the lot!). The staff are always willing to help (Albert is a legend) and they offer a wide range of activities that can keep you entertained on Efate for as long as you will be around (we highly recommend the waterfalls and the turtle rehabilitation!). They run a very proffessional business and are honest in their advice about seeking out other places to go and see and other companies to deal with. The resort is situated about 10mins walk from town and is very private and quiet. Buses will cost you 150V to town and taxis about 500V. A Taxi from the Airport is 2000V. This is a great place and should not be overlooked!

Room Tip: The private villas sitting right on the lagoon are large, private and have a spa. Great option if u...

As soon as we arrived we where greeted by friendly staff. A huge big thanks to Gary and Lorna for all their help with our Wedding, it was a perfect day and the staff where fantastic. We spent 10 days at Poppy's and enjoyed every single minute.Gary was fantastic on giving us suggestions on where and what we could do on the Island. As we were touring around with our awsome tour guide (Sam) who I would recommend to everbody, Gary and Lorna where organsing our Wedding preparations. The rooms and facilities were A1.If you are looking for a stress free, relaxing holiday then Poppy's is the place to go. Nothing is an issue for the staff and we cannot wait to go back.

Poppy's is fabulous. Highly recommended. We spent 10 days with our two kids and had a brilliant time. Poppy's is clean comfortable and a pleasure to stay. The staff are lovely, the food is great from the cafe. We got lots of fabulous advice from the staff, where to shop, best places for coffee, what to pay for things. They also recommended Sam, who took us around the Island and was a total pleasure and much cheaper than the organised tours. He also took us early enough to beat the crowds!
I was a bit worried about the "no air-conditioning" but you don't need it. You are right on the water and the Poppy's is so much cooler than the town, which is only 10 minutes away.
We would definitely stay there again and would not look anywhere else.

Room Tip: We stayed in the upstairs Lagoon View.. brilliant

Strongly recommend, especially for couples and families with young children. Beautiful views across the lagoon, easy walk to town and great staff. Breakfast was very reasonably priced and delicious (especially the banana pancakes, yum!) and the range of fruit at Island Night on Tuesday was unbelievable. All the bus drivers know where "Poppy's" is and some will even drop you at the bottom of the driveway! The kayaks are free to use and you don't have to book them or anything. You can swim and snorkel in the lagoon and although there's not a lot to see, I did find some pretty sea stars, sea cucumbers and a few small fish. Can't wait to get back there!

Room Tip: Studio rooms have a bit of a steep climb up the steps, bungalows much easier to get to.

We spent a fantastic two weeks in Vanuatu, and planned our stay to include a couple of different locations. For the first four nights, we chose to stay at Poppys. There were many positive and not so positive reviews and information available about this quaint little resort, that lead us to staying there.
Lets get the negative points out of the way first……… OK, moving right along. There may be reviews about the sometimes slow service, but you must remember, that this is Vanuatu and it (island time) happens everywhere. For example, at the other resort we stayed at, it took half an hour to receive two glasses of champaigne even after reminding them twice! That is what makes it such a special place to experience, albeit frustrating at times. Being a frequent traveller of south pacific islands, it was to be expected, so embrace it and just chill out. If you want five star service at the click of your fingers, then go stay at one of those trumped up toffy nosed resorts that only care about the size of your wallet. Poppys is essentially a big family in itself, that prides itself on interaction with its guests. It is small enough that the manager and owner get out and about with guests, have breakfast with them, or just sit and have a chat about your plans for the day or what you did the day before.
The driveway (for us) was an unexpected delight, being able to help battle the effects of overindulging the night before! It is not as bad as some make it out to be and the walk into town is an ever changing experience walking past local inhabitants always smiling and willing to offer greetings as you pass. Very courteous and friendly people, no matter what time of day or night.
Overall, the biggest and only let down was the fact that we chose to stay elsewhere for our last week in Port Vila! Although, we enjoyed our stay at a larger resort, we did not get that feeling of being truly welcomed that you get at a place like Poppy’s. We felt that we were just another paying guest that would soon be forgotten about the minute after we checked out.
The good bits, and there is too much to mention all of them. From the moment we arrived at poppys, the beautiful, colourful and immaculately kept gardens spoke volumes. We chose to stay in one of the waterfront spa bungalows which did not disappoint. They were in fact much more than we anticipated, based on the limited photos available on the internet. The rooms were spotless, well appointed and well maintained. Being located right on the lagoon and next to local village, we woke each day to the wonderful sounds and sights of roosters crowing (one in particular very poorly) and children playing in the lagoon on a makeshift raft, some of them appeared not to be old enough even to walk, let alone jumping off the platform into the deep waters! It was wonderful to witness people enjoying life for what it is and not worrying about the little things that we stress about everyday. And this brings me to what poppys really excels in. Being able to relax in a peacefull and tranquil environment, away from the hustle and bustle of mainstream life. The view of the calm waters of the lagoon is something else and peaceful, not being hassled by noisy resort activities (and sorry to the other guests for our first night madness- it was a long day!) Poppys is convenient as a central location to explore Port Vila. We were easlily in the center of Port Vila within 15 minutes walking. There are supermarkets (Au Bon Marche No.2 Supermarket) was for us the best to go for if you wanted to stock your self-contained kitchenette.
Our hosts, Peter (owner) and Garry (manager) certainly added that something extra that you don’t get from the larger mainstream resorts. One of them always seemed to be available for a chat, and to offer advice and or suggestions about things to do and see. On Tuesday nights, they have a Melanesian night, local food, music and information about how the locals prepare the food. Peter gave a fantastic talk about the various fruits available on the menu for the night. As well, he personally made it aware to the gathering of guests’ special events such as birthdays, anniversaries and in our case singled us out with a very heartfelt and enthusiastic announcement of our impending wedding the next day. You just don’t get this special treatment anywhere else. We have already started planning for our return next year. Thanks to everyone there for making us feel so welcome.

I traveled with my girlfriend and after staying at another place on the island before i got to Poppy's, i was devastated that we did not spend our entire trip here. Each room overlooks the Lagoon which is an Azure Blue and is very warm. Great for swimming and relaxing. The sun also rises over the lagoon so you can get some magnificent views. For cleanliness, we have had our entire room cleaned throughout everyday of our stay. Cannot possibly be cleaner.

The staff have been extremely helpful to us in getting around the town and organising tours. We had the Melanesian night here on the Tuesday and it was fantastic, worth every penny.

I asked the resort to do something special and romantic to surprise my girlfriend on the last night of our stay. Peter (the owner) upgraded our room to the lagoon front villa with a spa which was filled with rose petals and surrounded by candles. They went through a lot of trouble dressing the room up and setting a table as well as moving our entire luggage from our other room into this one whilst we were in town so i could surprise her, this all cost only $50. The service has been second to none, i will be back for a long weekend every couple of months.

Location is perfect, its quiet, tranquil, out of the way and secluded yet somehow remains very close to everything you need, buses are very cheap to and from the resort. Everything at the resort is cheap and the food is stunning.

If you are staying in Port Vila then you must stay here. Especially if you are looking for somewhere romantic and a bit special.

Fantastic place to stay in Vanuatu. Short walk to town (about 10-15mins) very easy, practically straight down one road, or even easier to catch a bus, only approx. $1.50 each way! Staff were friendly and approachable from the get go, very accommodating, they sorted out all our transfers and tours. We had breakfast there every morning and many lunches and dinners, the food was delicious, very homey and well presented. We ate all our meals down by the lagoon, a beautiful view any time of the day. We stayed in the Lagoon view suite, very cosy, with all amenities as expected. Beautiful view of the lagoon, but beware there are a number of steps to these rooms (if you're not used to it you may want to consider the other suites available). We both had a massage, we were presented with a 2 for 1 voucher on arrival. Very relaxing and worthwhile! They have an "Island Night" every Tuesday, with a fantastic array of food and staff giving talks on the Vanuatu culture, a very good opportunity to get to know the staff better. They have 3 pools (2 adult and a family) and the lagoon was very warm to swim in. They provided reef shoes and kayaks if necessary. When we stayed they were both families and honeymooners, the resort accommodates both, with recreational activities to keep child occupied and more secluded areas for honeymooners, for example the 2 adult pool areas. Wi-fi available if you need it, we bought an unlimited weekly log in pass. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone wanting a relaxing and friendly place to stay in Vanuatu!

Room Tip: Lagoon view and Garden view suites have a number of stairs from the main reception area. Other rooms...
