“Great location with a view.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2011

I stayed in an upstairs studio with a beautiful view of Port Vila Harbour. I watched a cruise ship arrive and depart. Located in the main street I was able to walk every where and didn't need to hire a car.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have nice views.

Dear Bradley

Thank you for taking the time to review our motel.

The upstairs rooms do provide great views and excellent value for money as they have not yet been refurbished. However they are clean, fully self contained and the refurbishment of these rooms is planned soon. We have just added air conditioning to two rooms upstairs so we can now offer our guests the great view with the comfort of air conditioning.

Thank you again for your comments.

I stayed in one of the new Executive rooms for three weeks in my role as an advisor to the Vanuatu Government. The room had a queen size bed with large screen satelite TV, lounge, kitchen table and desk for work on my laptop. The luxury fully contained kitchen enabled me to cook all my meals. A large shopping centre was 150 metres down the road. Bathroom and shower was spacious. As a single professional woman i felt secure with security guards at the gate and patrolling the grounds.
My home away from home.

Dear Janet

Thank you for comments.

The Executive studios were only completed in 2010 and have been completely refurbished with new bathroom, kitchen and furniture. There are only 5 of these new rooms and they are often booked out. Other rooms will be refurbished over the coming year so more guests will be able to enjoy our hospitality with a bit more comfort.

We look forward to welcoming you back if you visit Vanuatu again.

We stayed at the Kaiviti Motel for 2 nights. For our family of 4, it was very convenient to have our own kitchen, and 2 bedrooms, and the location was an easy walk to town. The rate was affordable and they were very flexible about check-in and check-out times, as our flight was delayed. The staff was very friendly here too.

The rooms were clean, and the pool and deck areas were in excellent condition and looked to have been recently refurbished. There was security on premises all night.

Our view from the main bedroom faced the harbour, and provided excellent views of the incoming cruise ships and yachts anchored there.

The downside is that this property still needs some work. The stove in the kitchen was only partially functional, in that only one burner was usable. But the kitchen, in general, was well-equipped. The furniture in the main living area, facing the nice flat-screen TV, was sagging quite severely. The lighting was extremely dim and made the rooms unpleasant to be in at night. Some windows were not lockable, and the screens on most of them were broken. Unfortunately, you have to leave the windows open as there were only fans, no air con. And being close to a busy road meant that there was some road noise.

The bathroom had broken and chipped tiles and chipped bathtub. But the shower was good, with strong pressure and hot water. We weren't impressed with the "used" soap provided.

There was internet access provided for a fee in the main reception area.

This place was fine for a couple of nights, but on a subsequent visit to Port Vila, we stayed elsewhere.

Dear Travelling_Axe

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding our motel.

Yes we agree that there is still more work to be done on many of the rooms. The property was very run down when purchased and there has been a lot of work done that you can’t see since that time. We are addressing the old furniture progressively within capital budget and guests see changes on every visit. All stoves in the apartments were checked and fixed only last year and I apologise that only one burner was working in the apartment you stayed. We have since carried out a thorough testing and service to ensure that all the burners are working until the equipment is replaced in the future.

However, the prices of the rooms do reflect the state of the property and offer competitive and excellent value for money.

We are fixing the screens also progressively and other building works. Unfortunately building projects take more time than in other countries and the speed of which is frustrating.

Thank you for pointing out the lighting problems which be addressed shortly. We will be adding Fluro strip to light up the lounge area for working at night better.

Unfortunately the bathrooms are dated with chipped tiles. The bathrooms are in need of a full replacement which will be attended to in the future, but they are clean and all fittings such as the shower have been replaced. I was horrified by your comment of the used soap and investigated the matter. We do not reuse soap, however I understand that some of our new staff have been unwrapping the soap! and putting it on a wet soap holder giving the impression that the soap was used. We have since corrected this practice and staff now make sure that the holder is dry before placing the soap which will also remain in the wrapper.

The new pool, bar and cafe were opened in July 2011. We are very pleased with the results and thank you for your positive feedback. I hope you had a chance to look at the new Executive rooms also which will give you an idea of the vision we have for the Motel.

Thank you again for your comments and I hope that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in Vanuatu.

We are a family of 4 and stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments. Had a great view of the harbour. Furniture was dated but comfortable. The big screen TV and being able to watch Australian TV made up for it. Kaiviti is in a great spot with 2 supermarkets within walking distance so we could save money by eating in. Good value for money and the staff were nice and friendly.

Could plug in my laptop into the TV and we had internet access, but it did cost extra.

We hired a car and there was ample parking. Went around the island, nice new road but you needed money to go to any beach. Not quite what we expected.

Nice new pool and bar sit-around area, although I would have liked to bring in my own drinks.

Dear Sally

Thank you for your feedback. We concur that the furniture is dated and we are progressively replacing it and recovering chairs to improve the look and comfort of the apartments. Our regular guests see something different and improved on every visit. 8 station TV is standard now in the apartments, Executive studios and soon the air conditioned studios. Internet is now available at an extra charge in all rooms via fixed LAN connection or wireless through a third party.

The car park is secure as the gate is closed at night with security/night porter for after hours assistance. We have found that guests get more value out of doing a round the island trip on a organised tour as the entrance fees, lunch are included and spots to visit are not missed. The new road does make it better and the villages have improved their facilities and welcome the extra traffic.

We do have a guest BBQ area and sit around area adjacent to the pool where guests can cook their own food and bring their own drinks. I am sorry that this was not explained to you at the time.

Thank you again for your comments.

Stayed at Kaiviti many times before and the new executive rooms are great and well worth the extra. They have been completely redone with Queen bed and large TV. The kitchen was awesome with a larger fridge/freezer, microwave and a proper stove and oven. New bathroom was clean and spacious.

Furniture has improved with comfy chairs for reading and well lit rooms - even dimmer lights for atmosphere.

I love the friendly small style of the motel and by the end of your stay everyone knows your name.

Finally the pool is open and great improvement on the old. The new bar has an island theme and in a much better position, but the staff still need some training.

Room Tip: Book one of the 5 executive rooms

Dear Elaine12354

Thank you for the review. I am pleased that you like the new Executive rooms which were completed in 2010. They have been completely refurbished with new kitchen and bathroom and located on the ground floor away from foot traffic.

We note your comments about the staff. We are continually working with them with weekly training session and reviews. Some of the staff haven’t worked in a bar or cafe before so we have plenty of areas to improve, but they are polite and friendly and willing to learn from guest feedback.

We appreciate your comments and will continually strive to improve our service.

For anyone planning a trip to Port Vila, whether it be a leisure holiday ,a scuba holiday or a combined holiday.
We have just returned home after a 7 day stay with our accommodation being at " Kaiviti Motel."We have made kaiviti motel our chosen accommodation for the past two years alway's finding it clean + very central to food outlets, restaraunts+ best of all for us,Diving with "Big Blue" only 10 minutes from Kaiviti Motel.Big Blue will also pick up divers+ all gear at the door+ return you to Kaiviti after diving,so will a few other dive operators.Kaiviti is 5 mins walk to Au Bon Mach'e the supermarket, one min from The Melanesian ,10 mins from town+ all restaraunts. We actually timed ourselves walking.Even though Kaiviti does not have a resaraunt, it is a one minute walk around the corner + into The Melanesian
which is very , nice+a great + varied menu selection.A beaut place to relax, even entertainment, so not having a restaruant is no big deal in fact it gives you a chance to investigate other options close by, you can even order to your room at Kaiviti from the Melanesian.
We have alway's been very happy with our accommodation at Kaiviti + even more so this trip,19/5/'11 to 25/5/'11.Kaiviti has been undergoing a make over + it has been done very well.Rooms have cooking facilities, air conditioning as well as fans. The beds are very comfortable+ the rooms spacious+ upon your request will be cleaned every day you just have to leave the "please make up my room " hanging on your door if you go out.The pool area is as good as you will see anywhere+ there is a washing + drying area set aside for divers to wash+ securely hang all dive gear. The room prices are very reasonable + it is your choice which you choose.Kaiviti Motel is PRIVATE + QUIET which is lovely. The reception staff speak 3 languages + all staff speak very good English+ are very helpful. There is also internet available .Check out is at 10am but there is a secure area lock up to keep your bags in until you are ready to go to the Airport.
We fully confidently + with good knowledge recommend Kaiviti Motel to anyone planning a trip to port Vila. The managers Ashlea+Brendan are chatty, helpful + willing to organise any tripping about you wish to do .There is a transfer bus to + from the airport at a very reasonable cost + can be booked at the same time as your accommodation. There are laundry facilities should you wish to use them or the staff will do it all for you + return your washing to your room, what more could you ask for.!!!Kaiviti is also a "Golden Chain"Motel + it is easy to aquire a Golden Chain members card which will give you a 10% discount.
Over all a very comfortable + welcome holiday
from two people who have for the last 16 years travelled to Port Vila + stayed in a lot of places.
Give it a go , you will not be sorry.
Cheers, ROSA + ANDREW SHORT AUSTRALIA.

This is not recommended in it's present state...... mud, dust and a building site at your front door.
Not sure where to begin - it looks ok in the brochure, but then an artists impression of the pool and the facilities would.
My main problems were, 3 inches of dust under the bed - for someone who has allergies to dust this is a major bug bare.
Towels in the bathroom with stains on the - clean but stains, really!
Windows as big as you can get that open directly on the main walk way ans the building site, you either had every one able to see in - or felt like you were in jail. Some net curtains or fly screen on the window to block the view would be great.
No access to the pool, no restaurant, or working bar. No where that pleasant to sit and chat, (it got better as we were there, but a little table to put drinks on is not too much to ask)
An upgrade was offered initially but then there was no offer to see the rooms that we could stay in..... WHAT THE.
At lease they has organized that paying clients could go next door to use the pool and facilities - next time I will just stay next door.

Room Tip: if your not happy ask to change, or leave......

Thank you for your feedback. There is never a good time for renovations and we are sorry that your experience wasn’t a good one. Your visit coincided with the car park makeover and it was only like that for a couple of weeks. It was completely re-cemented the week after your visit. The dust was caused by the car park surface being lifted and prepared for the new surface and is no longer a problem.

Our housekeeping continually check towels for stains and I apologise if one has slipped through. I have certainly kept a closer eye on this issue since your complaint.

There is and always has been a grassed BYO BBQ area with tables and chairs for guest use where you can bring your own drinks and food. It would have been a great area for the group to sit and chat and discuss your day’s diving.

Once again I am sorry your stay was not a good one – I was not aware that there were problems at the time. There are plenty of rooms away from the car park and we could have easily moved you to another room.
