We rented a two bed room apartment. The two units were joined by a locked door. We had our own private pool and a kitchen. Also, when we were there most units were vacant and it was very quiet. The pool had excellent view of the Eastern part of Port Villa.

Room Tip: Get the higher units. Higher units have better view of the bay than lower units.

Our family of 5 have had the most wonderful 8 nights in a 1 bedroom with adjoining studio. The facilities are superb!! Apartments were spacious and very well equipped. Our 3 teens particularly enjoyed the private plunge pool, infinity pool, tennis court and close proximity to town. Staff most helpful, friendly and welcoming. Started each day with a sumptuous breakfast - particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit/muesli/croissants choice. Teens devoured the pancakes. We will be recommending to our family and friends as best place to stay!!! Oh and great massage.

Room Tip: Lagoon view with plunge pool rooms 301/302 perfect for us.

One bedroom apartment with own pool. Great view out and over lagoon below. Spacious, clean, all you need to cook and look after yourself. Hot breakfast supplied each day in the rate. Friendly staff, unit cleaned each day. Easy walk into town each day. Only negative being the hot water could be a bit hotter!

Room Tip: Pick a one bedroom apartment lower on hill so have uninterrupted view in front of you.

I came to Port Vila for two weeks with my husband, who was working. I had research and study to do. We started out staying at Mangoes but I found the rooms too dark with the wooden shutters on every window opening (there was no glass at all, just the shutters and screens). The two properties are related so I asked the manager, Jane, if we could move to the Terraces appartments. Jane was very helpful and organised everything. We stayed in a studio room which was lovely. It was more comfortable, bright, cleaner and stylish than the Mangoes rooms. It’s about a 1km walk to town which is a reasonably steep walk uphill on the way back. This may not suit everyone but the taxis and buses are easy to grab.

Although the units were nicely designed and the views beautiful, we had several issues with The Terraces Boutique Apartments...

1. First and foremost, both my wedding and engagement rings went missing from our unit... They were left on the dinning room table in a rush to make an excursion. Back patio doors were locked prior to leaving, when we returned, the large living room patio door was left unlocked by the cleaning lady. We were gone most of the day, so who knows what happened in that timeframe. Pool workers were seen looking into units (we witnessed this during our stay), lurking around/cleaning our private pool. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I don’t know what else to speculate. I have OCD, so I keep track of my belongings very meticulously. Unfortunately, when we told the front desk, nothing was done to help. They barely even made an effort to pretend to be upset for us. It was almost like they didn’t care that 2 very important rings mysteriously went missing. Sad...

2. The units were not cleaned very well. Sticky cup marks on the bedside tables, couch cushion zippers broken exposing foam/unable to close, kitchen supplies unwashed/dirty, kitchen cabinets had a foul smell, dust was left on shelving units for clothes, etc.

3. Service was subpar (with the exception of Fabi, she was AMAZING and super helpful the first full day we were there, which was pretty much the only time we saw her). We wanted to go to dinner one night away from the “resort”, but no one could help us hire a taxi/bus. We were basically told there was nothing we or they could do for us... One bus driver named Ruben even went as far as huffing and puffing, complaining “Jesus Christ” when we asked if we could get him to take us (he was being paid). There was no sense of urgency, no sense of wanting to help us enjoy a nice dinner away from our apartment... The front desk closed early every night, so no one was there to help make calls or anything. The bar even told us they couldn’t call anyone to ask if they would be able to give us a ride. Obviously our cell phones didn’t work over there, so we were stranded and ended up having to eat next door at the Holiday Inn... Not exactly what we wanted to do that night (although the food wasn’t terrible).

4. Mangos Restaurant was also subpar. Some selections were fairly delicious, but only when they were available. Several mornings we were told they weren’t able to make us certain dishes (avocados were NEVER ripe for eating, although there were several sitting on the counter for days). One of us is vegan, so there was little to nothing for them to eat. They ended up eating the same toast and jam with a hash brown nearly every morning. On top of that, the food took a very long time to even begin to prepare. One morning before one of our excursions, we went down to Mangos (the only restaurant on the premises) to eat breakfast. After grabbing our own menus, going up to the bar to order due to the lack of service, and waiting about 20 or so minutes, we informed the kitchen staff that we were needing to leave in a certain amount of time, they then informed us that our food hadn’t even began to be prepared. We ended up having to cancel our order and were unable to eat until about 4:00 pm after the excursion, which didn’t provide food. Not something you want to do before a strenuous hike! We then made sure to give them an hour or so the next time we decided to visit for breakfast!

All in all, this wasn’t the best experience we’ve had in all our travels. We have traveled the world, we’ve seen many places, and have stayed in many different resorts/hotels. We will not be returning to Vanuatu, although beautiful and full of character! We were left with a poor taste in our mouths, and no, I’m not talking about the food...

P.s. If anyone finds 2 silver rings, one being a solid silver band with the name “Michael” inscribed on the inside, and the other a silver band with 7 diamonds in a curved setting like a wave, I miss them and would love nothing more than to have them back on my naked fingers! Shame on me for trusting this world (and shame on The Terraces for providing us with a broken safe)... Hoping no one else has had similar experiences. Again, the place was in a beautiful setting, and the views were great, it was all just tarnished by whatever happened!
