“Stay was ok”

My husband and I recently spent 7 nights at Coco Beach and were quite disappointed. On arrival, we were told that they were not expecting us until the following day and only had us booked in for 3 nights when we had paid for 7! - we had to show them our hotel voucher proving we had booked and paid for 7 consecutive nights and waited approximately 1.5 hours until they could rectify this with their head office. We eventually were offered an upgrade to a beach front bungalow for an extra fee which we decided to pay as we were tired of waiting and were also told that the other rooms didn't have any air conditioning! No information was given as to what time breakfast would be (if you can call it a breakfast - we only received 1 coffee, 2 small pieces of toast with butter & jam and a plate of fruit to share). The restaurant is very expensive for poor quality, poor service and tasteless food. We would return to Vanuatu but not to this resort nor to the other two resorts owned by the same couple. The worst part was Christmas night, we were told that the town would be closed and that all the staff were leaving at 4pm so there would be no dinner and no staff on the property! we were speaking to a few of the other guests who were also shocked that a resort would leave their customers stranded on Christmas night without any options for dinner. As a summary I wouldn't recommend this resort as it is far from the town centre, the food is expensive and not good quality and the resort, being fairly new, needs a lot of work

Whilst not staying at Coco Beach but at the beautiful Villa's next door we have utilised the facilities at Coco Beach - mainly the restaurant and the ability to easily get into Port Vila with the boat taxis. My husband and I have enjoyed amazing meals in a most spectacular place. The staff are efficient and expert in their delivery under the guidance of the friendly and very capable Gerry. This won't be our last visit to Coco Beach - it is amazing.

I recently returned from a 5 night stay at CoCo Beach Resort. Overall we had a great stay but there are a few areas this hotel needs to work on. The location of this resort is absolute paradise - right on the beach with fantastic beach access. The water taxi is a great way to get into Port Vila - it's scenic and guests at the hotel get one free return trip each day. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Malonie, who was wonderful.

Communication is a big let down at CoCo Beach. Before we arrived we requested a room upgrade but never got a reply. Once we arrived they showed us to our original room (Fare 10) while the upgrade request was being dealt with. We ended up waiting 1.5 hours for them to get back to us while we waited outside, not wanting to mess up the room. They moved us into one of the beach front rooms (Fare 4) without so much as a discussion of pricing. We also found out that our upgraded room wasn't available for our whole stay so we had to move after 3 nights into a different room again (Fare 5). The rooms vary very little in their quality. The main difference in the rooms in the location in regards to the beach. The rooms are also close together and not very private, you can clearly hear people coming and going on the paths.

The other let down with this hotel is the lack of information. There is no details in your room about the hotel, about the water taxis or transport. Nothing regarding nearby things to do or places to eat. No information about the restaurant opening hours, menu or prices. Nothing. There is also no mini-bar in the rooms (the CoCo Beach website says there is), just a glass bottle for water. They give you tea and coffee making supplies but no milk.

The restaurant at the hotel provides free breakfast but this only includes toast with butter and jam and fruit. Don't make the mistake of ordering off the menu because you will be charged. We made that error after asking if the breakfast was free and being told it was. The food at the restaurant is very nice, especially at dinner. However, there are some other wonderful restaurants in Port Vila worth trying too - Elan is about 25 minutes by taxi and is run by a lovely Australian woman with gorgeous views and great seafood. Restaurant le Jardin des Saveurs is an incredible French restaurant run by a French couple. Book a table at the window and get there to watch the sunset, it's amazing.

Staff assistance is also a bit patchy. Our power went off one day and after speaking to Gerry she basically said "the resort power is fine, there is nothing I can do". It turned out that our kettle was tripping the power so we just didn't use it after that.

This resort is very new and when we left we were told that they would be full over Christmas. I believe this resort will struggle when at full capacity due to the management problems we experienced. Also note that the photos and information on the CoCo Beach website are misleading so be careful when booking - as far as we could tell there are no rooms with pools or private courtyards. If they exist, we didn't see them. Room quality and amenities, for the price, are not that great.

I would definitely visit Vanuatu again but would probably not return to CoCo Beach Resort.

My family of four opted to go to the restaurant at CoCo on the recommendation of the manager at Surfside Villas, where we were staying. We were looking for somewhere to go for a really special meal in a really lovely setting. We went in the early afternoon to check the place out and they were right: it looked lovely, the menu sounded just fantastic and we immediately made a reservation for 6.30pm that evening.

We arrived on time and were shown to our table. Across from us was a table of 8 and further down a table of two. No problem, we thought. By 7.00pm, when we had STILL not been offered so much as a menu to look at or offered a drink, I finally caught the owner's attention (Gerry was her name, I think?). Up till that time, she had been so busy chatting and looking at photos with the couple at the table for two we had been overlooked (although why the 4 or 5 waiters couldn't have given us a menu I have no idea.). By 7.15pm I'd at last caught Gerry's eye and we ordered; no starters, just a main meal each. Good; now we could relax, I thought. But it wasn't to be. A gentleman on his own came and sat at the table next to us, another gentlemen came some time later and sat at another table a bit further along, and two girls came later still and claimed another table nearby. ALL of these diners got prompt attention and ALL of these diners had their meals served, and they had eaten and left before we had so much as eaten a single thing. Gerry came over to us at one point and apologised for the delay saying that we couldn't have our meals served to us until the table of eight had had their main meal. What??? They'd already had their starters, why couldn't we simply have our meals now? Gerry promised us it wouldn't be long. She also claimed the long wait was because they had booked. But so had we! The diners who'd arrived after us had all long gone before our meals finally arrived just after 8.30pm - 2 very long and hungry hours since we'd arrived. And what a disappointment those meals were! My husband's Fisherman's Basket was SO disappointing, including a whole heap of undercooked chips in a soggy mess at the bottom, and very ordinary seafood on top, including (inexplicably) battered prawn heads! WHY??? Even the prawns bodies had been battered and fried with the shells on. What was the point??? The other meals (we'd all ordered the Reef & Beef) had similarly undercooked chips and fatty beef, with one piece of meat having a HUGE piece of gristle through the middle. Just disgusting!

By then, we were so hungry we made an attempt to eat what we could and, immediately upon finishing this over-priced, badly prepared, sub-standard meal we got up without waiting for the bill and went to the desk to pay. The waiters had the grace to look shame-faced as they knew we were very upset. Gerry had long disappeared; she didn't even have the courtesy to stay around to attempt to apologise for the shocking service and the dreadful meal. Clearly, CoCo's resort is only interested in giving good service and good food to those who are actually staying there. If that's the case, then they shouldn't accept bookings from visitors, full stop.

Interestingly, on our airport transfer bus a few days later at the end of our stay in beautiful Vanuatu, was the lone diner who had sat next to us. He said "Oh! You're the people who didn't get served! I felt so embarrassed for you and went and spoke to the waiters to ask if something couldn't be done, but they just said they were doing their best and "it shouldn't be long". He said, "I was so upset for you that your night was ruined". So were we, mate. So were we.

Stayed three nights at Coco Beach Resort with my wife and it was fabulous. Brand new resort perched on the beach with close ocean views, blue water, white sand and perfect weather. Had a very nice bungalow just metres from the sea. Hot days so air conditioning was a big plus but cooler nights. Beautiful room with a creative bathroom design, queen or it could be a king size bed, could hear the waves drifting in on the beach at night. Interesting restaurant and bar area which reaches into the sea with a dock for the water taxis to deliver you right into the restaurant from the waterfront in Port Vila. Restaurant and bar was attended by friendly staff and a manager hostess who ensured meals and drinks arrived promptly. All meals were prepared with that little extra pizazz that makes the dining experience more enjoyable. Had a hamburger that was a gastronomic delight, Cold beer and a glass or two of wine completed the experience. The resort has a swimming pool and other attractions but for me I just hung out in the restaurant, the beach and our bungalow. Taking the water taxi across to Port Vila waterfront was another enjoyable experience with plush comfortable seats and they also offer a sunset cruise. Definitely a terrific place to stay.

Room Tip: Go for a bungalow on the beach.

The hotel is ideally placed on a nice stretch of beach. There is a water taxi you can get to Port Vila which is fun to ride in. The accommodation is lovely and both the owners and the staff are charming. The food in the restaurant is exquisite and I savoured every meal. Thanks for a truly enjoyable stay!

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Gerry and her team provided a relaxing environment, great meals and a fantastic option not too far from Port Vila. The boat transfers to Port Vila are a great option to keep you close to starting points for markets, day tours etc but provide a great place to relax and escape from the daily hussle and bustle. Meals were excellent and staff very friendly. The pool is located at the back of resort but very relaxing and quiet escape.

Room Tip: Any room here is good. Not too many steps from the beach whichever room your are in.
