“Paradise Cove was Paradise”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Our stay at Paradise Cove was brilliant. Transfers and room requests all sorted on line by the wonderful owners Contance and Marc.
Having been to Vanuatu several times we chose to stay here for the less "busy" resort feel - the location 15 minutes from town takes your breath away on arrival situated on the beach front - beautiful blue ocean, scattered over coral reefs , sea life and the odd turtle or two , this is the place to unwind.
Complimentary breakfast delicious as were the wonderful staff - nothing was of too much trouble to accommodate.
Happy hour is a must as are the "Beef Nems" - I think a Paradise Cove specialty !
Plenty of beach for safe kayaking, snorkelling or reading a book.
Will be back before Christmas and thank you for making our stay so wonderful and relaxing.

My family and I (including 2 young children) recently spent 4 days at Paradise Cove and enjoyed it thoroughly. The resort is small and intimate and offers a relaxing alternative to the big resort style accommodation available elsewhere in Port Vila. The location is stunning, the owners and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful and the food is exquisite. It is a bumpy fifteen minute bus ride from the centre of town but worth the trip if you are looking to relax away from the noise and smells of Port Vila. The view from the beach is breathtakingly beautiful and the swimming and snorkelling are superb. Those looking to party hard or for 5 star luxury hotel style accommodation should probably look elsewhere. Thanks for a lovely stay...hope to see you all again soon.

We stayed seven nights at Paradise Cove Resort in Pango and we had an amazing lovely time. I don’t normally fill in surveys or reviews but I felt that it was really important to write this review because in the past I have relied upon the excellent advice of others on Trip Advisor in finding the right holiday for my family and I want to pay it forward to others considering travelling to Vanuatu. We actually stayed at two resorts to break it up a bit over our two week stay and they were both absolutely wonderful in their own right. This review is focused on Paradise Cove Resort and I have done a separate review for Aquana Resort. I would recommend doing your research before you decide what type of resort suits you, depending on whether you are a solo traveller, a couple or a family.

The owners Marc and Constance recently purchased the resort in November last year and they have been working very hard to bring it up to a high standard. Paradise Cove Resort is perfect for families and couples with or without children, there is something there for everyone except for the most party hards. The minute that we arrived, we felt like we were instantly made welcome by Constance, Marc and her highly professional staff. We were shown to our bungalow, which was very private, quiet and comfortable. There are only ten or eleven bungalows in total and they are spread out among the lush grounds for your own quiet piece of paradise. If you expect flat screen televisions and modern stainless steel kitchens, then this is definitely not the place for you. If you want to party hard, don’t stay here either, this is a place to let go of modern life and chill out for a while. The lighting throughout the resort is subdued and this contributes to the relaxed atmosphere. The rustic nature of the bungalows is in fact part of its charm. There are the odd things in the bungalows that perhaps don’t work (in ours it was a broken oven and fridge door that wouldn’t close) but these are not major issues and these minor fixes are a work in progress at the resort. For those who want to keep in contact with the outside world there is free wifi at the Nakamal bar and restaurant area. We chose this particular resort due to the great reviews from people on Trip Advisor and it certainly did not disappoint, so thank you to all previous reviewers for this resort! We were specifically after great snorkelling, relaxation and good food and that is exactly what we got. You can safely snorkel straight off the jetty and you will see plenty of fish life. Please note that the aspect of the resort means that the coral in the shallows gets hammered by cyclones during cyclone season, so there is not a huge amount of live coral close to shore. However, the fish diversity is as good as any intact reef, so it is still fantastic. It is also a safe spot for littlies to be introduced to snorkelling. If your swimming fitness is good, we found the best snorkelling spot around 150-200 metres east of the jetty (towards Port Vila) as there are a couple of good gutters with live coral and fish life in there. The water in the bay was actually a lot warmer than the water in the pool at this time of year and you could easily stay in for an hour or more. The resort staff can easily organise day trips for you if you ask at the bar.

For a small fee, we requested a baby sitter for our three year old daughter for the odd hour here and there so that my partner and I could go snorkelling. These gentle and lovely Vanuatan women were fantastic with my daughter, I can't praise them highly enough. They often have kids of their own and are complete naturals with children.

One of the highlights of our stay at Paradise Cove Resort was on our last night when Constance asked if we wanted to have dinner on the jetty. It was a lovely warm, still night and we thought it sounded like a good idea. We thought that staff would just slap a table and some chairs down there, nothing fancy. While we were sitting and having drinks at the bar, guests were coming in and commenting on who might be the lucky ones having a romantic dinner or who might be getting married….so we got curious and looked over at the jetty and received a happy shock….the jetty was beautifully dressed up in hanging candles, lush pot plants and an immaculately dressed table. We had a beautiful dinner there and it is one of those memories that will stick with us for a long time. Thank you Constance!

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at Paradise Cove and I know that I will probably miss a lot of the names of the excellent staff. The ones I can remember are the lovely Toumal, Lyneth, Eva, Tony, Jane, Benjamin, Johnny, Jerony, Wendy and Kathleen and of course Marc and Constance. They all made us feel very welcome. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful and relaxing, we will be back!

Final notes before I end this very long review:
*Some general advice regardless of where you stay in Vanuatu: Bring reef shoes (although several resorts will have these on lend including mask, snorkel and flippers), insect repellent (we went in July/August but there are always things that will bite you), also bring immodium or similar. We stayed at a couple of resorts and found the tap water in most places okay but we still managed to get travellers’ diarrhoea most likely from a day trip that we did with the Cooloongoola sailing/snorkelling trip. The trip itself was excellent but the food that was transported onto the ship sweated away under cling wrap for a few hours and I am fairly certain that is where we got it from. Also check where the water in ice cubes has been sourced for happy hour drinks…! Proper hygiene is essential, so take some hand sanitiser with you and apply liberally when out and about. Vanuatu is a third world country and if like me, you don’t have an iron gut, there is a moderate to high risk that you could contract a bit of a tummy bug depending on which time of year you travel, although it is nothing like Bali Belly…! Common sense applies. We regularly take probiotic tablets and they are great for gut flora and tend to shorten any sort of illness that you might get.

We spent a week here with two teenage boys and had a wonderful time. The staff were beyond friendly. They learnt our names, always asked after us and even knew how we liked our drinks after just two days! They helped with anything at the drop of a hat. This just created the best atomsphere.
The food in the restaurant was good and the complimentary breakfast of cereal, tropical fruit, french bread toasted and croissants was just lovely. You can sit right down by the sea to eat or on the jetty at night for a romantic dinner.
The bungalows are rustic beach houses (there are 10 of them). They don't have all the mod cons (No air con, TV) but we had everything we needed and they were clean and serviced every day. There is an out door area with each bungelow that has lounge chairs and a hammock. Very relaxing!
We used their snorklling gear and kayaks. There are lots of tropical fish to see about 40 meters out from the resort, but not a lot of coral.
The road out is bumpy but it is the same all around Vila. We hired a car for a couple of days and that was good so we could try some restaurants in town and sight see.

Room Tip: Bungalow six has a big long couch in the living room if you need to sleep another person there separ...

Spent a week at Paradise Cove Resort with my family. We had a wonderful time and can not speak highly enough of the staff at the resort. Constance and Marc were great hosts, the staff friendly, obliging and very helpful. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the Coconut crab to die for. The fact that the resort is a way out of Port Vila is in its favor as the resort is very peaceful and quiet - clean, lovely bungalows set in lovely tropical gardens with the beach at the door or a few steps away. And although the coral close to the beach has been damaged there is some very good coral a little further out and the tropical fish plentiful.
The trip out to the resort was not as bumpy for us at this time as the road had been graded but I understand that at times it can be pretty rough. The cost of the bus into town was a little expensive and at times it could be a little difficult to get a bus to go back down the road to Paradise ( although taxis were easy to acquire) but we did manage to get one trip from town for 100 Vatu per person. We enjoyed happy hour and made the most of the kayaks and chess board. Didn't miss TV at all. One of the best holidays we have had. Our thanks to everyone at Paradise Cove Resort.

Room Tip: Any of the bungalows are great. The very first bungalow has been renovated and looked amazing.

Proprietors Constance & Marc are fabulous hosts - and so too were the staff at Paradise Cove Resort. This boutique resort is "out of town" but well worth a visit. The coral beach fronting the resort is small but safe for all ages. Kayaks and snorkelling gear are freely available.
We spent a week at this resort and found it friendly, most comfortable, very relaxing and just the holiday we sought. It was nice to be with the small number of other guests of various ages and the menu in the restaurant is excellent.
Ken and Elaine highly recommend this "pearl" of the South Pacific

My Wife and I stayed at PCR for 9 days, being joined by Daughter & Son in law half way thru Hol.
Marc & Constance were charming Hosts, making us welcome and taking care of booking, transfers and Car hire. Always on hand if needed, but certainly not overbearing.
The PCR staff (and indeed all Vanuatu folk) were friendly, helpful and always available to give advice for trips, restaurants, places to visit.
Beautiful tropical gardens, quiet surroundings. PCR has an excellent restaurant.
Portions are good and the value is too! Try the Cocunut crab cooked by Rocky the chef!
The beach and snorkeling are great. The roads from Port Vila to PCR are pot holed and 'challenging'. If you're hiring a car, get a 4x4! Local Buses (B on number plate) are more like Taxis. Don't be afraid to push for lower fares (200-300 Vatu per person to/from Town). Great Fun!
Our thanks to Constance, Marc, Benjamin, Wendy, Jane, Jerony, Jonny, Kathleen, Rocky and other PCR staff for making our holiday so special.
