“Really Nice--A real Culture shock is Vanuatu.”
Reviewed 17 February 2009

Benjor Beach was great. The best snorkelling --better than Hideaway Island. It does rain a bit!!!!!!!!!!! No need to take a brolly or snorkelling gear as Eva and Kevin supply it. It is expensive to live over there but Benjor is very good in terms of prices and service. Eva and Kevin --the Managers go out of their way to make you feel welcome and Noeline, Tale and Fred are brilliant. Hope Leroy is doin g well Noeline--didn't see him on the plane to ChCh, NZ. A wee bit far out from port Vila but then Port Vila is not exactly your St Tropez Resort!! Great Swimming, take your own snacks and buy heaps of Duty Free wine as wine is about $11 a glass. The local Tusker Beer is good. Check out Hideaway Island--Eva gave us a ride to the Ferry and generally the trip to Port Vila can be negotiated to about 300 Vatu per person ($5 NZ). Lovely place. thanks guys.

Run down. The golf course is so dirty that you will probably slip if it has been raining. Dirty unit on arrival and not cleaned properly during our stay. Cockroaches in the kitchen drawers and bed. The "beach" is rocky and looks unsafe for swimming. Couldn't wait to leave.

Our stay at Benjor was fabulous and memorable. Apart from the beautiful location, the staff were the best we have ever encounted. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. We were given a real insight into island life and culture with sincere regard.
Thank you Eva and Kevin, you seem to work 24/7 and put yourselves entirely at your guests disposal.
You are special people in a special location

My family stayed at Benjor in January 2009 and thought it was a fantastic choice for us. We were close enough to Port Villa to catch a bus in for shopping and the odd dinner, but far enough out of town to get what the island is really about. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They helped us book our day tours from the reception area and were picked up for them from right outside our door. The snorkeling was fantastic at the beach at Benjor. We all thought the coral here was the best we had seen on our holiday.
We stayed in a range of rooms over our eight days. Three of us had the huge villa with the spa in the bathroom, kitchen facilities (microwave, fridge, hot plate). It did not have air conditioning but the breeze came through the room quite well. My mum and brother each had their own one bedroom villa beside each other and found their rooms very nice also. We also spent time in the 5 bedroom house which was very roomy. We had our own private coral beaches down the back yard, a BBQ and huge BBQ area down near the beach. It was very quiet and suited us very nicely. When coming home from day tours everyone else on the buses loved the look of the place.
The dining staff are the best. Very nice to all of us and the meals there were prepared with a lot of love. I would stay here again next time I visit Efate Island. One thing we did find handy was hiring a car for a few days to get out and about. The buses are a great way to get around but with the 5 of us it was almost as cheap to hire a car for half our stay and be able to drive to places we weren't sure of how long to stay for. The buses are easy to get though and once in town just organise for the driver to pick you up at a designated time and they will.

We spent ten days at Benjor and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Big Thanks to Kevin and Eva for taking care of us, and especially the staff, e.g. Fred, Nolene and the cleaning ladies. There was always something to do!! At times, it almost felt like we were the only ones on the property and had the pool to ourselves or the beach...Will be returning in the future.

Kevin, Eva, Fred and the rest of the staff at Bejor were fantastic! Anything you ask for t hey try their hardest to obtain, this included setting up a TV in the restaurant so that we could watch the Rugby League World Cup!
Staying in the 5 bedroom house with 7 of us there was plenty of room - in saying this the 5th bedroom is actually the garage converted and includes the laundry which I found a little weird and not really a bedroom.
The resort itself is not fantastic - the tennis courts need upgrading as does many other parts of the resort, and equipment with a golf club breaking whilst hitting a ball the tennis balls being flat etc however the service really does make up for all the little things.
The resort is a bit out of town, the staff are more than willing to call a bus however it is cheaper if you can find a driver yourself and do it for less - one way trip from resort to Port Vila was 400vt if booked through the resort, we found others that would do it for 300vt, obviously the more people you have the more likely you are to get it cheaper, we did get it for 200vt a couple of times.
The snorkelling in high tide is fantastic and the beach was exactly as we expected it as it is off a reef.
Again, the staff are fantastic - Fred really does make a fantastic cocktail and if the resort was upgraded a little I would definitely recommend people to go

  • Liked — The fantastic staff
  • Disliked — the lack of good amenities (tennis balls, golf clubs)
