This Inn was good value considering that hotel prices keep going up.
The staff are nice but look very tiered trying to keep up with such a huge demand.
The rooms are clean and of good backpacker standard.
The area that the Inn is located is convenient with access to most of the attractions and good food, coffee, ice cream etc. close by.
There is a little cafe/restaurant a few doors up that it is nice to eat food or drink some Myanmar beer on the footpath and soak up the atmosphere.Try their chillied squid dish!
New hostel and hotels are being built so keep on the lookout for something a little better.
Overall not bad for the price and it is important either to get the owner or one of his nephews to help you organise things. As per all guest houses and hotels there is always A,B and C teams operating.
Myanmar has the most wonderful people and sights and best visited sooner than later.

OK, let's adjust expectations. It's January 2013 and rooms in Yangon are tough. You're not in Thailand or Sumatra or Laos. Deal with it.

People at Ocean Pearl are quite friendly and helpful. There's free airport pick-up (saving you 7K kyat). Wireless internet is free. So is bag storage for the day while you trip around Yangon before your night bus.

If you're the type of person who expects the shower to drain in a reasonable way, or the air conditioner to work consistently without flipping the circuit breaker a half-dozen times, then don't stay here. Because you'll be probably be disappointed. The Ocean Pearl is a cheap hotel with some cool perks and good folks. And you're in Yangon.

If you do stay here, you should definitely take advantage of the close proximity to Botatung Paya and visit it in the early morning when it is very beautiful. Incense and the faithful. Lots of friendly locals. We arrived before 7 am, that's when the government starts collecting fees. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Try not to stay by the breakfast room unless you want to get up early, room 102 was tough

Dark, dirty, cockroaches, rats, smell of urine in the room and other less nice things. The breakfast was generous though and the staff helpful. A bit far from the center. Im not picky but I would not stay here again. Due tp the lonely planet listing its always fuoll. The are many hotels around, cleaner, nicer and in the same pricerange that you can choose.

This was my second time staying at Ocean Pearl Inn, having stayed there for the first time in May 2010. Having read some other guest reviews, I feel that whist this is no Trader's or Strand, for the price range, you'd be hard pressed to do better in Yangon. With prices for everything, land especially, in Yangon skyrocketing, this is likely to remain as true as ever.

Twice now I have made the mistake of getting the free airport shuttle from the airport to the inexplicably popular Motherland Inn II. My advice would be to avoid it and come straight here by taxi. For the same price as a sweat-box at Motherland you can live in relative comfort here. Although only a couple of the rooms have windows, all are equipped with AC, a fridge, a TV, a comfy bed, nice shower and are all importantly spotlessly clean. A simple but adequate breakfast is provided should you want it, but many nice teahouses and restaurants are also close by, as is a western style supermarket. Whilst I was there the staff were more than happy to provide me with water etc. to make noodles. The staff at the guesthouse will also happily change money, at only a slightly less favourable rate than on the street (with Kyat now being traded on the international market, this may cease to be an issue). If you are on a budget in Yangon, look no further.

Room Tip: If they are available, try to get a room facing onto the street.

As promised - Ocean Pearl Inn arranged for us to be picked up from the airport upon arrival (name on poster - brilliant). However we were told than Ocean Pearl Inn was totally booked and they have arranged a room for us at Ocean Pearl Inn II (Aung Si) for USD 25/night/double room.

We were automatically sceptical - however upon arrival and checking in. The room was perfectly clean, with a hot shower en suite which was equally tidy.

The room itself had no window which wasn't great. Location's good (off Bogyoke Aung San road) down a side street which felt perfectly safe.

The staff were helpful in organising the plane tickets we had delivered to Ocean Pearl Inn (1) to be brought over, organising taxis for us in the morning (4 am) and even provided us with coffee and bananas despite being way too early for the breakfast service.

Good value for money (by Burmese standard), friendly staff and good location.

Room Tip: I believe there is one room with window on the left side as you come in - all others (on the same ro...

Good value for money.
Good beds, hot shower, decent breakfast (even at 5.30 in the morning)
Situated quite nice and central.
Helpful service (even though it doesn't always come with a smile).
Bathroom could be better, floods every time you shower (seems to be the case in most myanmar guest houses) and water does not drain well.

All in all we would stay here again!

We came to Yangon in the high seasone with out reservations. This hotel Aung Si, associated with Ocean Pearl has been very accommodating and friendly. They are very centrally located on a cute market street. They even helped us book bus tickets and taxi. Highly recommended.
