“basic small cheap hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2014

The rooms cost $30/dbl, $25/sgl, with ac, hot water and a TV (1 HK news channel in English), which is cheap these days for Yangon (would be half this price in Bangkok). So the Ocean Pearl is considered a good buy. My room had no window, but the ac worked well. Rooms are clean but not remodeled. Free shuttle to airport at 6.30am, and free pickup for international flights. Basic breakfast (egg, toast, coffee/tea).
Good for overnight stay. Popular, so book ahead.
In the same block, there is a inexpensive, good restaurant, the New Moon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window.

We had the same experience as stated below. Had a confirmed reservation but when we arrived there, they told us there was no vacant room and sent us to the very poor "Everest Hotel". Very unfriendly. Do not stay there.

We stayed 3 nights at the Ocean Pearl Inn and we had to change room 3 times. The hotel is filthy. All rooms we had a really strong mould smell. We could actually see the mould (blue and grey spots) all over the walls and ceiling in the room and the bathroom. None of the rooms we stayed in had descent ventilation. Actually most of the rooms do not have a window. No surprise it smells that bad! Anyway, this is not healthy location. Breakfast is definitely the worst we had in our entire stay in Myanmar. Finally the management was not nice (I mean not smiley or welcoming) and unprofessional (forgot to book the taxi they said they would book for us to go to the airport!).

After check-in, I finally found that the reason why the bad smell inside the room came from, there was no window, but it was common in Myanmar as the block packed closely with one another. Although the inn promises you a one-way free pick up , after your arrival, you cannot easily find your name on a large white card at the exit, not until my wife got a glimpse of the small badge of the inn from her staff, we would definitely keep on waiting for hours. The room (USD 30)provides basic facilities with breakfast included, except the toilet is a little bit high above the floor. During our stay, on the 4th floor, some children were running nosily above until 10 p.m., then we had a good sleep. As the inn was fully booked after our return, Mr. Than was very helpful and promised to find a room for us at the nearby area. Finally, we took a night bus from Bagan to Yangoon, we arrived the inn at 4 something in the early morning. The staff on duty told us that all rooms were fully occupied but he tried his best to get one for us at the nearby area; on spot we got a bottle of mineral water without any charge. Around 6 a.m. I was told that a room(USD 25) was available for us immediately at Aung Si Guest House, her sister inn, The guest house is located a few block away from Bogyike Aung San Road, just inside the market. It is clean and no bad smell (of course no window) with the air-conditioner as well as the fan were on during we moved in. Besides, you can walk to Sule Pagoda for half an hour along Anawrahta Road, just pass through the night market area, it is easy to reach there with a map.But if you want to go to Aung San market, it seems to be a little bit far, you had better to take a taxi for 2000 kyats. Ocean Pearl Inn is just a few blocks away from Orchid Hotel ( every driver knows its location) and on her right (also a few blocks away, less than 3 to 4 minutes on foot), you will find a chinese food restaurant called Mei Chun Heung, the food is delicious with reasonable price.

The Ocean Pearl Inn II comes up with a shower in the room, air-condition, free Wifi, a small breakfast in the morning and it is clean. Free airport shuttle (one direction) and friendly and helpful people. Perfect for the budget price.

We had a small very basic room with no window on the 4th floor. It was clean (but don't look too closely at the toilet!). I'm not sure what is on the floor above but it's very noisy, thankfully the noise stops at around 10pm.
No airport shuttle available and they didn't bother cleaning the room after our first night.
Breakfast is edible.
20 minute walk to the centre of town.

We checked in on 11 Nov night. On 12 Nov morning we left for the Schwedagon pagoda and left our belongings in the room. We brought with us our cameras, passports and money.

At 12pm we checked out and headed for Bagan. On the way to Bagan, my friend found out that his handphone which was in the pocket of his small backpack was gone.

Only someone from the hotel who has the access to the room key could go into our room. We believe that it was the job of the "inside man'.
It is not safe here.

The location was a bit out being situated on the eastern end of the town. It is quite difficult to walk to the busier part of the town where the activities are.
There are a lot of other hotels of similar standard in the China town area and places near to the Sule Pagoda. I will not recommend it to anyone.
