“hotel not safe”
Reviewed 14 September 2012

The hotel has some good sides and many disadvantages. They charged me 85 US $. Very poor value for this high price.
good:
- central located
- spacious room
- silent
- free internet
- linnen clean

bad:
- slow internet
- very old, not renovated hotel, all equipment is maybe 30 years old.
- cyling is low, only about 2.10 m. u feel like in a cave.
- dirty walls, dirty floor
- buffet breakfast, choice no big
- staff not greets, staff not helpful: check-out: i had big suitcase and big backpack. 5 staff passed me, 1 greeted, noone helped.
- 1 small lift. long waiting if many guest check in or check out..

MOST IMPORTANT:
- the hotel is not safe in the case of fire or like this:
--> there is only one, very small staircase /wide about 1 m. the staircases are covered with carpet. There is NO emergency-exit. there are NO signs how to get out of the room. no alaram-bells.if there is a fire, the plastic-carpet and the wooden cyling will burn like hell. and it s high house, 10 floors...

conclusion: if they would ahve charged, 30, 40 Dollars, then o.k. But for 85 US $ it s totally overpriced. don t go there

I don't think it was the hotel's fault as much as Agoda, which is generally a good indication of the type of property. This is a two star hotel that has a good view of the pagoda at nights, but is also 2 kilometers away from the pagoda--could be 1.5. The waterstains on the ceiling, musty smells and if you are allergic to dust or mildew or mold, just stay away. This was a mistake for me because I normally stay in four star properties, but the view and price attracted my attention and the ability to prepay via agoda. However, in retrospect, if you can afford Traders, just pay up and get the executive floor which will save you for dinner elsewhere.

Also beware of the hot water here. If you can handle boiling water, then you are OK. If not, make sure you turn on the cold water first and slowly the hot water. It's the hottest water I've ever had coming from a tap.

Just do yourself a favour and stay away. Breakfast was pretty poor also.

Room Tip: If you must, a view 1.5km at night might make you a bit cheerier for $7.

The hotel is located in central place for easy access of the biz traveler.
Reception is smile and friendly.
Elevator old and stop only on even floors - prepare to little stairs
Ceiling VERY low.
Room aircon poor and water heater not very good working condition. Can have little more in hotel amenities but all in all ok. Bed comfy. Internet is not always working and also electricity but that is all over the city.
Breakfast is poor quality but they do try their best.

Room Tip: room in the central part of the floor will give you better internet access rooms that are ODD are f...

This hotel is ideal if you are looking for just a place to put your things down and rest for the night. The location is central. The rooms are clean and decent. Simple with no amenities. But you pay for what you get. The is also wifi on every floor but I would suggest you get a room closer to the lobby if you want to have good wireless access.

They have buffet breakfast but it isn't great. But for the price you are paying i think most can accept it. The service standards are decent.

Room Tip: Choose a room near the lift lobby

From the 4 hotels we stayed at in Yangon, this was our best. Nice room, good breakfast with good choice of fruits and extremely friendly staff. Good location for exploring both in the city centre and around the schwedagon pagoda.

This is the 1st time to Yangon with my family (2 kids), Alfa's staffs offered free extra bed for my kids and towels that we didn't request which was a surprise. We booked a room with Shwedagon Pagoda view and It was amazing at night. The spotlights lit up the whole Pagoda which was breathtaking. This hotel location is quite convenient. We can walk to Shwedagon Pagoda and Bogyoke Market (great souvenir market).

The staffs were very friendly and helpful. Every time we went out and the bellman will ask if we need umbrellas or do we need taxi service. They didn't ask us for any tips which I think was great. This gave us more cash to spend on things we like to spend on.

As a three star hotel, the room inside is very tidy and clean. No mosquitoes nor flies.

The only thing I wanted to point out is the water in rooms need a little time to heat up, other than that, there was nothing else we would like to mention.

Room Tip: Must choose Deluxe room with Shwedagon Pagoda view

Just spent five days at the Alfa. Great value in a city of crazy prices (even in low, rainy season) but the best aspect of the hotel is the staff - professional, courteous and friendly. And nothing is too much trouble for them.

Room Tip: If possible get a high floor Pagoda view room - absolutely stunning at night!
