“Great View from the room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Room was neat, but a little dim. I noticed that there was something leaking in the toilet bowl's base but it wasn't really a big deal for me. The room was spacious. Breakfast was ok. Hotel's staff were friendly.

I was expecting much more from this hotel so I was disappointed a bit. Outside look is not offering very pleasant first impression. Lobby is small but I must say staff is really lovely and very helpful (what is an important point). But the space in the hotel is a bit claustrophobic (I even had feeling that ceiling is smaller than it should usually be). There is only one lift in the hotel with 2 floors added to one number in the lift (number 8 is for 7th and 8th floor so you need to use stairs anyway). But you are able to see Shwedagon pagoda while moving to the top as wall in the lift is glassy (thanks to this you can breathe a bit in this narrow lift by seeing the view). Also the view of Shwedagon pagoda from the room is something! That you attempt to personalize yourself with Kipling when he saw this monument for the first time. Corridors were quite scary and smelling of cigarettes. Room was clean but with an old-fashioned and musty look. Also there was a constant problem with the bathroom (plumbing and flush). OK wifi connectivity BUT there was construction going on in the opposite building during the whole night so I could not sleep properly. As a main advantage of this hotel I see its location and great view from the rooftop bar. Breakfast restaurant was a bit small but food offer was sufficient and also very tasty. If this hotel wants to satisfy tourists needs on a high level it surely needs renovation and some investment!

Overall, average hotel. Paid USD 110 per night inclusive of breakfast. Not much complain as hotel in Myanmar is very expensive. Upscale hotel such as Trader hotel or Park Royal Hotel is even more pricy. Stay in this hotel due to walking distance to exhibition location.

1. Rooms: Low ceiling, bed ok, very basic toiletries, wifi signal in room not very strong depends on floor level.
2. Breakfast: Limited choices, still manageable.
3. Location: Street shops in the vicinity, walking distance to downtown.
4. Reception: Friendly and helpful

Not recommended to stay. There are better and cheaper hotel such as Hotel Central Yangon which offer good breakfast and very near to downtown.

This hotel was very much in need of renovation. The standard of the rooms was about as low as the ceilings! The breakfast was also very poor. We certainly understand that we could not have expected the standard of the super expensive options, but there are better options for the price. The staff were lovely, although don't rely on the wake up calls! We never actually got one and on the last night when we had to leave at 4 am, we actually had to wake the receptionist, who was supposed to make the call, up ourselves!

The best thing about the Alfa Hotel is the staff who are very friendly and helpful. They are great. The second best thing is the location. Just on the edge of downtown and close to the Bogyoke Market. It's also very close to an excellent Shan noodle restaurant, on the next corner as you walk down Nawady Street. It's also a pleasant walk up to Shwedagon Paya (say about 20 minutes).
The worst thing is that they have managed to cram 12 floors into a building that is only tall enough for 8 or 9 floors. The result is incredibly low ceilings. I'm of medium height, but if was a foot of soo taller I would have been stooping down when walking about my room. I have never stayed in any accommodtion with such low ceilings. While clean, the rooms have a tired and tatty feeling. The broadband is not very good, with the speed ranging from so low that there is in effect no internet access to reasonably good, at least by Myanmar standards. It's better late at night and on weekends.
I know hotel room prices have gone up a lot in Yangon, but surely there must be better value hotels than the Alfa. I wouldn't stay there again primarily because of the very low ceilings and the tired and tatty rooms. With all the money they are making they really should rennovate.

I stayed here one week for work and the staff went out of their way to make sure I had a room where the wifi worked. It was much appreciated. Hotel was clean, super quiet with great bedding, and lovely staff. Some rooms are better than others, plumbing seems to have seen better days. Great location in lovely part of Yangon.

Stayed at the Alfa Hotel for 5 nights. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate all our needs. The hotel is in an excellent location and about a 15 minute walk to the Aung San Market. The hotel is a bit run down but other than that it was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great also. Awesome bar up the top with the best view of the Shwedagon Pagoda. Will stay there again.
