We had been told by friends living locally that we should try out the Strand Grill as it was the closest thing Yangon had to Hanoi's Metropole (for non-Hanoians like Raffles in Singapore). We decided to go for lunch, but on arrival were told that they were not serving food for another hour. We looked around but ate elsewhere as we are used to Vietnamese restaurants which serve anything at any time of day. It looked nice and old fashioned. Unfortunately, so are the restaurant opening policies.

I've been to afternoon tea here a number of times. Sometimes I'm made to feel like an honored guest, other times an irritant. The tea and treats are lovely (though real milk might be a nice touch) but service is spotty, sometimes non existent. Try to get a table in the main room. The back section is nice and cozy, provided your neighbors aren't waxing lyrical - and loudly - about their travels..... Book in advance.

We actually had a very good experience at the Strand, unlike some of the other reviewers…..
Obviously it is expensive, however the waiter offered one high tea between 2 with extra tea
( which they did not charge for!)wand this was more than enough! And made the bill a lot less. It was what one expects, and the tea was excellent.

Expected so much more from this hotel and restaurant,
Hotel very small and not renovated to the former glory that it could and should be .
We had high tea in the lounge which is served between 2-30 & 4-30pm in the afternoon.
Food good if a little pricey but service and atmosphere .

We had read a lot about the high tea at the Strand and so we were excited to try it out. That was a big mistake. It was the worst experience that i encountered during our 3 weeks tour of Myanmar. The service was extremely poor and the waiters had no pride in serving customers. The tables were not clean. We never saw our waiter after the initial serving. There was no follow up as to whether we wanted anything else. Too pricey and trying to get and pay the bill was a chore. Not worth the $40 that we spent there.
